Lostgame
Microsoft (MSFT) has run into trouble with a major customer over Vista: The U.S. Department of Transportation has banned Windows Vista, Office 2007, and Internet Explorer 2007, InformationWeek reports. The newly revealed policy forbidding installation of Microsoft's latest software has been in place since mid-January. Finally, someone's taking my advice from last fall: Punish Microsoft for delivering a buggy, bloated operating system by simply not buying it. In the DOT's case, the ban was imposed because certain applications essential to the agency's function won't run on Vista. For these Microsoft customers, Vista doesn't just fail to deliver more value; it actively detracts from their jobs. As a consequence, the DOT isn't just holding back on upgrading to Vista. It's actively considering Apple (AAPL) Macintosh computers, as well as PCs running Novell's (NOVL) SuSe Linux. I think it's unlikely that the DOT will switch, since moving to those platforms will require even more reprogramming work than making its apps Vista-compatible. The threat, however, should be a wakeup call to Microsoft: Less "wow," more "works." http://blogs.business2.com/beta/2007/03/us_government_b.html http://www.informationweek.com/news/showAr...cleID=197700789 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44360-us-government-bans-vista-office-2007/ Share on other sites

Zulu.Walker
At last... someone with clout who's complaining. Maybe this will start changing people's view of Vista... the unwashed masses that is, not the geniuses in this forum Edited March 6, 2007 by Zulu.Walker Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44360-us-government-bans-vista-office-2007/#findComment-317460 Share on other sites
BlackShadowWolf
wow thats pretty cool, after going through a heirarchy of links, now I cant remember, apparently Vista's problems are Apple's fault. Stolen Source code blog Im not sure if its real, but I could believe Bill Gates would try to steal Mac OS X code . DiaboliK
the only reason osx isnt out in the masses (corporations and hospitals and such) is because microsoft dosent care if your windows '98 (or insert your favorite windows build here) machine is operating the nuclear facility at chernoble or just used as a web browser. as apple states in its OS fine print. this product should not be used in hospitals and whatnot because we dont feel liable for things that may go wrong in a situaton like that while using apple software.... yea its in my wording but thats the easiest way fo me to get it across, read apple's fine print and you will understanding like i have. cfhuk
So basically Apple OS's aren't used where they would be most useful because apple don't want to be guilty for anything going wrong in life and death situations, so we have to put up with MSFT where we really need a top notch OS. Anyone else thankful MSFT isn't the only alternative to Apple OS's? DiaboliK
i wonder if the department of transportation is gonna ban the distibrution trucks from actually delivering vista, instead of just not using it. wouldnt that be the greatest? robotskip
I love how people think this is some amazing thing. Many government bodies, universities, businesses and other 'places' have put out 'bans' on Vista / Office 2007 / IE7 - why ? They don't want people upgrading till they've updated their tech support, internal apps or whatever it is slowing them down. In some places like universities they're a little more lax compared to a government body so you're allowed to install/use whatever, you just won't have support but with the government they need to be more strict to keep problems as low as possible. People get all excited going "OMG LOL M$ PWNDEDL!L!" when they hear news like this, but they're just being retarded. I also love how the stupid author in that quote takes credit for them not choosing Vista straight away and that they took his 'advice' about it being 'buggy.' wow thats pretty cool, after going through a heirarchy of links, now I cant remember, apparently Vista's problems are Apple's fault. Stolen Source code blog Im not sure if its real, but I could believe Bill Gates would try to steal Mac OS X code . No, not real. I totally agree, the companys wait until the stuff is compatable, they have personell who are trained for the new os, they have hardware that supports it, and they also ban it because if someone's running office 07, and htey save an important document (in the new default format) and then the person who needed it in the company was running office 03 then they couldnt open the document, i run into that at my school, and my house (two 07 computers and one 03) so if i run into that problem as frequently as i do imagine all the time that could be lost in a corperation that is unsure what format to use... and if they arnt upgrading to vista because of compatability than they definately arnt upgrading to apple or linux, really, those have so much less support than microsoft. be logical Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44360-us-government-bans-vista-office-2007/#findComment-318810 Share on other sites
