Paranoid Marvin
I was wondering what the average Body Mass Index of Insanely Mac member was Here's what Wikipedia has to say: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_mass_index And here's a quick BMI calculator: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ There are several catagories BMI is normally put into. They are: Starvation: less than 15.0 Anoretic(n.)/Anorexic(adj.): less than 17.5 Underweight: less than 18.5 Ideal: from 18.5 to 25 Overweight: from 25 to 30 Obese: from 30 to 40 Morbidly Obese: over 40 Round your BMI the nearest whole number and click the correct number, and hopefully we can get some interesting statistics! My BMI is 17.2, which actually puts me in the catagory of Anorexic Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44233-bmi/ Share on other sites

aquanutz
Yeah, you can't really trust the BMI. It doesn't take into account body fat percentage at all. Occording to that, I am overweight being 190 at 6'2" with a BF of 9%... Paranoid Marvin
wow, the thing says i'm anorexic. so many peops here MUST be anorexic. that thing must be wrong BMI is said to be a rough indicator of health, so just because it says you are anorexic, it doesn't mean you are. Though I suppose, if you are so far under your recommended weight (50lb in my case) then perhaps it would do you good to 'bulk up' a bit. frizbot
BMI is accurate for healthy average people. Otherwise its just a rough indication. The problem is that the input is absolute numbers, while the output is relative. Muscle weighs more than fat. Bodyfat is the important calculation. It's difficult however. Using electronic impedance things, the results are inaccurate. Using calipers needs an experienced person to judge the results. There was another way, but I forget it. The last way was some sort of immersion thing that needs a special water tank, but its extremely accurate, if costly. I just use the cheap electronic gizmo to give me an estimate, even though it has a variance of about 6% in results a few seconds later. Alessandro17
I also wonder if age should be taken into account. It is a well known fact that many teenagers look skinny, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they aren't healthy.
