After the introduction of the black MacBook last May, speculation began that the other Macs in the Apple product lineup might also be seeing black editions. Well, the rumor mill is still a 'churning, cranking out rumors of a new black (exclusively 24-inch) iMac model somewhere in the works. MacScoop has more info on the "Blackintosh" rumor:

The only specific information MacScoop has recently obtained from sources regarding Apple's forthcoming hardware releases is that a black version of the iMac could make its way with the next update of the company's all-in-one consumer desktop Macs. Sources also told us that - as it is currently the case for the MacBook - the black color could be available only on the high-end 24 inch iMac and possibly the 20 inch as well.

Might this be Steve's next "one more thing?"

jgrimes80, I agree. I mean the black ipod is sleak as hell and I want one, but a mac is a mac. The color is just not that important.

I think color is just as important if not even more important because it's a greater investment. Color mattered with my Car, color mattered with my MacBook and color mattered with my iPod Nano. (all black btw.)

I think what makes a mac, a mac is its sleek white case. It makes it unique from most computers on the market. By making it black, it will look like a random black lcd monitor on your desk. Although it doesn't look that bad.

Also, this is only supposed to come out in 24 inch? Im sure it will go on to the 20 and 17 after that as well.

I bet the black model will be on the 24, possibly the 20, but not on the 17. If you look at their color selling scheme, you can only buy a black nano if you buy the most expensive one, and the same for the MacBook.

Also, color does matter imo, just as it does with most things of value and everyday use.

I saw this a while ago, some design pictures from apples engineers, Althought the black imac looked much much much better in the design pics, it was for the new 2007 model i'Mac's, so it wasa new bosy all together, (as the current body is from the G5 series).

I would like to see this as well

and i bet you have an American car! :)

'06 Scion tC; came brand new with 2 miles on it, and it's got an iPod connector (real ipod, not an aux) for picking and choosing my playlists on the Headunit and reads out my title, artist, and album info as well.

Scion is a subsidiary of Toyota, whom is a Japanese company.

I know color didn't effect performance. But I like to get things that look the way I want them if I'm going to be using them all the time.

My PC's case is black too, so are my speakers and so is my mousepad. Hell, so is my lamp and the LCD I use externally with my MacBook.

I got the ones that met my performance standards while still looked good, and I'm willing to pay more for the one I like aesthetically more if I'm going to be using it a lot.

Ok, consider that if apple offered a custom color choice on it's products you'd be forced to pick a color for your mac. If you like white, go with white. If you like black, red, fuschia, whatever, go with that. When it comes down to it you'd have to choose one, and then color would matter to you. The one statement i don't agree with is that what makes a mac a mac is the white case and that the white case is somehow unique. That may have been true in 1999 but not so much today. Apple cases are sleek and nice, and i love them, but everybody and their mother are copying mac cases these days, or trying to one-up them, so the case definately doesn't make a mac. The color doesn't either. What makes a mac is quality components and a rock solid, innovative OS. The bells and whistles are what make a mac (though not necessarily the graphical ones). The color of the case is, as Ampidire said, 100% subjective to the person buying it. If you love the black, buy the black, if you prefer the white, buy the white. It's just an option. It'll perform exactly the same. I would prefer the black, simply because Macs have been white so long that a new color is refreshing. I find it funny that DiaboliK mentioned the Aero look. My opinion is that Apple MUST come out with a new GUI because they can't let Vista look prettier than OS X. Assuming the rumors of a darker GUI are true, can you imagine how cool it'd look on a black mac? I can't wait to see it. In the meantime, i'm gonna look into sending my MBP to colorware to get it colored jet black. That would be killer =D

Good call on the car... I was 100% wrong about my comment haha... Toyota makes really well built cars that last!

I just brought back a 2000 Audi S4 today from test driving it for a couple days. It's been in our wholesale market for a few months now and ive been trying to get myself to buy it although its an automatic :(.... haha but its black! here the thing though... I would buy an S4 in any color. It wouldnt matter if it was hot pink! what matters the most is whats under the hood, as almost the same goes with computers although they are sitting on your desk at home and are a little more for show rather then how fast they go (becuase really who comes into your house and goes WOW thats a fast computer!! haha)
