Comp1demon
Hi all... I have been a windows user for about 13 years now. I have not used a mac since 1985 or so - I have played with one here and there at compusa - but never had the desire to Drop a few G's on a Computer I might not like or use much. Once I saw all the success of the JaS installer I decied to give it a shot. I found Jas and painstakenly over days tried to get it to my DVD burner to make a Install disk. FInally after buring the JaS installer to a dvd I popped it into my AMd 2200XP machine - guess what NO GO since it don;t support sse2 extentions. Now I was really curious - I hit the web and looked that the requirements and needing a new PC anyways - I fould a home built AMD X2 64 3000+ on a Gigabyte k8n-ultra 9 MOBO with 769 meg of DDR 2 ram - an 80 GIG HD SATA - an ATI X300 Video card - Audio AC97 onboard - Dual Burner in a nice tall ANTEC case for $250 on craigs list - decided PERFECT - called the dude - bought the PC. Tried to install a few times and NOTHING - it would install to 100% then not reboot or not make it past the boot screen opf OS X. SO I decided to throw in a better video card (i had laying around) GForce 6600 128 meg of ram card - and pop in a EIDE 10 GB HDD since i think the SATA drive might have been an issue too - and for good measure found the PPF2 patch and patched the ISO of JaS installer - Reburned the Disk and Installed it. All looks good - after install on first reboot the screen went dark and never came back... Rebooted again - it finally booted into OSX and walked me through the Introduction and setup - but SIDEWAYS on my screen so I atually had to turn my monitor on the side to read it and move the mouse correctly. Then I rebooted again and the Video layed out Perfectly - I even changed the resolution to MAX and it looks great. So all looks good on my install - I feel like such a newbie - I know nothing about mac's - I really want to be open minded and learn and play with them as much as I can. I hit my first SNAG - My wireless card - according to the WIKI of the OSX86 project my card is supported - but there are some tweeks to be done - and I don't understand them - I really need someone to hold my hand for a while - so I decided to look around google and it lead me here. My card is a LINKSYS WMP11 V2.7 According to old forum post's people were in the past able to get this card to work naitely in their mac's PCI slots - and according to the OSX86 wiki they are supported in INTEL and AMD OSX machines - but I don't understand how to make it work. the OSX86 WIKI says -Linksys WMP11 v2.7 PCI Adapter - Broadcom Chipset (edited Airport2 kext file - add device ID ending with zero). If anyone has any idea or can help me get this to work I would appreciate it. Hope to hear from someone and all advice is welcome. Other Advice I need is this - I know windows PC and applications very well. Once I get this MAC online - what other applications or additions do i need to find / buy and install to really make my experience everything it can be. Thanks again in advance, Kris Quick Edit - When I click - ABOUT THIS MAC - only once did i get a responce - most and all other times it seems like it crashes - it just resets the desktop screen and closes all my windows. Interesting!!! Conroe Mac
Since this is a hardware problem, you might have more luck in the hardware part of the forum.
