has anyone had success or failure with firewire on final cut pro?

anyone have success with s-video out?

I have successfully captured video through firewire using FCP 4.5HD. It's PPC code, so the program runs slower, but it detects the deck just fine. I think you might just be using a messed up copy of FCP.

Any word on Extended display yet?

Hi,

I'm new to the Mac, so please let me know is this has been answered previously.

I have a M1210 with Ubuntu. I followed SeaDonkey's guide:

1. I resized my Ubuntu partition using the Ubuntu 7.04 Live CD to create about 25 GB of free space after the Linux partition. I made a Primary FAT32 partition out of this entire free space.

2. I am using the JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 DVD. I went to the Disk Utility and tried to erase the new FAT32 partition and set it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled). No error or warning messages were returned.

This step does not work. If I reselect the partition on the left pane of the Disk Utility, it is still "MS-DOS File System". And it does not show up on the Installer Destination list.

What am I doing wrong ? Should I be using a different DVD ?

Thanks for your help,

rss

Ok, I think I fixed this by booting into the Ubuntu 7.04 partition (that is my first partition on the HD), running cfdisk as root, selecting the newly created FAT32 partition and changing it's type to 'AF'.

Once I did this, the OSX installer correctly detected the new partition as 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)' and everything proceeded correctly. Yay!

I also added the dual-boot code for Darwin, as described in the guide.

But now I have another problem: Once everything is installed, and I reboot,

it always boots into Ubuntu! The only way I can get it to boot to OSX is through username_taken's method: have the install DVD in the drive and wait out the timeout.

Current partitioning:

Disk 0

Partition 1: Primary linux ext3 for Ubuntu 26.37 GB

Partition 2: Primary HFS+ for OSX 25.85 GB (set as boot)

Partition 3: Extended linux-swap 2.27 GB

Can someone suggest something to try ?

Thanks!

why my speaker can not work ???

thank all of you

If you have RAM with 667 you have to do this out of the original install instructions...

For 667mhz ram ONLY! Do not do this next step if you have 533MHZ ram:

Add the following to your com.apple.Boot.plist file in your kernel flags: fsb=166 (this will also fix your timing and choppy audio)

My audio was choppy before I did this...

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks everyone for the hard work! I finally got my m1210 dual booting XP Pro & OSX. This guide gave me nothing but problems until I actually found the right ISO (not surprising).

The only thing I'm having a problem with is the Broadcom Ethernet. At this point I think my IONetworking.kext is so screwed up that I don't think any of these standard installs will work for me.

Can someone send me their .kext from their working m1210 install and tell me which commands I need to do to unload the old one and reinstall the new one? It pops up every time I restart telling me my AppleBroadcom440 kext is messed up and cannot be loaded.

I followed one fix for it that used an older IONetwork kext from 10.4.4 but that only worked through one reboot (however that works, I'm not sure).

is sleep working yet? I have 10.4.8 installed, but even though I have disabled sleep, eventually the screen turns off and the machine locks up

To be honest with you I have never been a fan of sleep so I have it disabled so that may not be working as well.

I just uninstalled the power bundle that's at the beginning of this thread and disabled it there. I don't get battery life updates, but it doesn't lock up anymore. I do however have SLOWW network connections through ethernet. It's kind of intermittent. I see a lot of other people post about it here, but I don't really see any solutions or responses. I'm guessing most of you use the wifi card so it's not an issue? Mine is in the mail so I've been using ethernet, and it sucks. Any suggestions?

Does anyone know why I might be getting a black screen when I insert the DVD to install? I see a grey apple screen, followed by complete black. During this time, my CD/DVD drive is working. Then, the drive stops leaving me with a black screen. I'm using JaS 10.4.8 SSE3 Intel Only DVD.

M1210

1 Gigabyte RAM

1.66 GHz Processor (Intel Centrino Duo)

Intel 950 GMA (Integrated)

Any ideas?
