Alex Oughton
While not the full release we were expecting, Mediafour have released a Vista-compatible version of MacDrive, in Beta form. Beta 1 2 of MacDrive 7 can be downloaded free of charge from Mediafour's website, with an expiry date of March 12, 2007. The full product is due for release on March 5, 2007. As with all Beta software, especially software dealing directly with file systems, caution is recommended. However, my initial tests with the software have shown no problems so far, and the same level of compatibility which was provided by MacDrive 6 under Windows XP. This is sure to become one of the 'must-have' apps for users of Windows Vista on the Mac, so be sure to check out our full review of the final product in the coming months. UPDATE: Beta-2 has now been made available! Download Beta-

cartri
As we were saying in the other forum,.... no support for x64 systems... not even manually installing and editing the windows registry - the 2 .sys files are 32-bit only and not compatible with x64 systems (as some others are) People who uses MACs really do have 64bit processors, so in the future (or now already?) there would be more users with 64bit (unsuported) windows then with 32... not really smart not supporting it Edited February 7, 2007 by cartri
Stadsport
Does it play nice with Parallels? That is, using Parallels on a bootcamp install that has this.

sadiekiller
tryed it out in my Vista RTM system and it broke it. luckly microsoft finaly made it semi easy to fix problmes with the install cd, but yeah. It seemed to add a new Hard drive to the mix, cause I have vista start in SOS (verbous) mode and it had 4 drives not 3 and i think that was the problem. for some reason the new hdd it added caused the comptuer to reboot with no warning. EtherealRemnant
MacDrive and compatibility do not belong in the same sentence. I hate that piece of {censored} software. That said, I would totally not recommend that anyone mess with a beta of this on a production system or you may find yourself reinstalling everything... marliwahoo
Does it play nice with Parallels? That is, using Parallels on a bootcamp install that has this. Good question. No need to use it in Parallels. However, if you are using your bootcamp partition for your Parallels hd image this would be VERY important. Anyone know the answer ??? MacDrive and compatibility do not belong in the same sentence. I hate that piece of {censored} software. That said, I would totally not recommend that anyone mess with a beta of this on a production system or you may find yourself reinstalling everything... Well, everyone has their own experiences. Macdrive has workded well for me and I would consider it a must have program. I'm using it with Vista and it seems to be doing very well. (you can laugh at me when, in my next post, I whine about having to reinstall everything)

Alex Oughton
Well, MacDrive 6 performed perfectly for me under XP, with no problems caused to the system, and no problems during use. Beta 1 of version 7 has mostly been stable for me so far, but I did have it fail to start up once. It's good to see that a newer beta is on the way. As for it not working on x64, I'm not in the slightest bit surprised. It is, after all, a driver. If they go to the trouble of porting it to the x64 architecture, you can bet they will be trumpeting it all over the front page!
cartri
Its not quite dificult to drive maker to make a version in x64... its just a porting matter... They are just lazy not doing so
Stadsport
MacDrive 6 worked fine for me on my hackintosh but it doesn't seem to like my MacBook at all.

Clearly some degree of work is required.

DsurioN
This MacDrive 7 beta worked fine but it has stopped working now, it wants to be activated and the serial number I give is apparently no longer valid.
Takuro
I'm going to hold off on using this. It would've been simple enough to leave the beta 1 download online until beta 2 was released, but I think they pulled it from their site for a reason. Maybe it's too unstable. Mounting my Mac HD in the Computer Management area of Windows and using TransMac to browse the files works very well. For all purposes, I don't really need MacDrive 7 yet. I'll wait until beta 4 or 5.
cartri
How can you mount your hd on computer management without the macdisk drivers to recgnize the hfs+ partition?
