fiscus
I have the same mobo and was concerned about sata performance. On xbench i was getting around 45 - 50 for the disk test as well. I tried all the ports and a couple of different drives and the results were similar. I then tried a WD drive, all the others I had tried were Seagates and my disk performance shot right up. I've seen some posts regarding Seagate drives and bad performance under OSX/Xbench (I'm not sure if it's an Xbench bug or a big in the Seagate firmwares) but worth a shot. If you have another brand drive try it and bench it and see what you get. Worth a shot. Otherwise there aren't any updates or anything else that I know of that you can try to speed up the performance with. mdg
I too have Seagates 7200.10 model drivers (320, 500 and 750) and they are reallu slow...I don't know what all the reviewers on sites like Newegg are talking about fast. However, these are very quiet (all but 750, which is terribly loud...louder than my DVR, which is loud). Yes, the WD's are immediately apparent faster...forget Xbench, which does show they are faster...in real life you can also tell. Problem is that these things vibrate really badly, and I even have dampners. They shake my whole PC case and table where the PC sits on. They also emit a constant high pitch sound...VERY annoying if PC is right next to you. I bought special heat sink/silencer case for the WD's for SilentPC.com, and they work GREAT! They take up a 5.25 slot though. However, the better Maxtor drives are the best of both worlds. They are quiet and fast...in fact the fastest and quietest. I believe the Pac Pros, which have off the charts Xbench HD scores use the Maxtor drives I am talking about. I'm not home so I don't recall the model #'s, but they are the ones that cost a little more ($20-$30 for a comparable 500 Gb SATA 3.0 Gb/s drive). I too have the Generic readout in my information pane. I see a lot of people that have Intel ICH7 readout, and I wonder how they get that to show up?? aberracus
Thats our problem we are using generic achi drivers, its a problem with our ioatafamily.kext, i will remake my second hard disk partition so i can put there a test osx and test with it, i have testeded those seagate inwinxp and they are fast, Wd is also good but noisy, and maxtor is the RMA king i will not go with them at gunpoint. Anyway i will post any notices about the kext.... Any other Asus owner have a clue? jean.alcocer
I am in the same problem, but the most wear is that my pata 7200, seagate 1200 is more quickly than my sansung 200gb ahci. Seagate is at 50MB/s, Samsung is at 20. So the final cut is recapuring video again and again. someone can do something Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/39906-asus-p5w-dh-deluxe-achi-support/#findComment-296100 Share on other sites
rparker
The Seagate 7200.10 drives have problems in all MAC's, including genuine ones. I just put in a WD drive and performance went back up.
