Wardialer
ok. so far i tried: 1) vmware... every possible combination of settings. nothing 2) dvd-rw w/ IDE to USB adapter using AHCI and all possible settings. nothing 3) bought myself a SATA dvd-rom for $27 (since the ide to sata adapter is 2 bucks more). nothing 4) tried to restore the jas image to a sata hard drive to install from. nothing i'm really running out of ideas and am starting to believe that this board just isn't compatible, but i still read about ppl w/ very similar hardware ie. DG965RY successfully installing. i know all about SABR's posts regarding the jmicron fix for gigabyte and asus boards, but im afraid this DG965WH board uses a marvell controller. if anyone has ANY suggestions or if u could give me a clue as to how you got it working on your intel 965 board i'd be eternally grateful. here's what i did notice though since getting my SATA dvd-rom: w/o AHCI in IDE mode when i boot any DVD (myzar, jas 10.4.6, 10.4.8amd_intel + ppf) it jumps right into System config file '/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found. then when i hit F8 i can see the only thing darwin can boot from is hd(144,0) Ethernet PXE Client. w/ AHCI on, darwin can install onto hd(126,1) Mac OS X Install Disc x86 but still crashes after i select that (tried all -x -v -s etc.) other discs however that never booted before from my IDE dvd-rw now boot fine, including GPartEd, Fedora 6, Ubuntu 6.10. pretty please... can someone offer some insight? Wardialer
ANOTHER bios update just released on the intel support site... now at 1618 (jan 17). doubt that'll fix my problem but i might as well install it. also, i noticed that restoring files from the DVD has issues in Disk Utility since info tells me that the DVD has 11,031 files in 5,227 directories and the hard drive that the DVD was restored onto has 11,032 files and 5,173 files. perhaps restoring from an ISO as opposed to a mounted volume would fix those counts. aaaaaaaaaah. the 1618 update is corrupt through express bios: The program is unable to continue. Internal System error: There is a programming or internal problem. or ISO bios update Can't open CD driver CDRCACH SHSUCDX can't install. Error reading from drive D: DOS area: general failure (A)bort, (I)gnore, ®etry, (F)ail? thanks intel Edited January 19, 2007 by Wardialer Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/39234-dg965wh-wasnt-meant-to-be/#findComment-279609 Share on other sites

packysauce
I have a DG965WH and Core 2 Duo E6300. Works fine. HOWEVER, I tried using 10.4.7 and it wouldn't do anything. 10.4.8 did the same thing. Turns out, dvd drive does not work on sata!! Regardless of settings. Get a USB one, that's how I solved my problem. ("borrowed" from walmart with a $99 "security deposit") for long enough to install.. Switched the SATA ports to AHCI and the installer started seeing my hard drive. Installed to it and selected the appropriate patches in the installer. Works fine now. packysauce
I forgot to mention I don't have the sound working. I just bought the little USB Audio Advantage from Turtle Beach. Much easier than trying to get the damned STAC9271 working.
