i have a gateway nx570xl laptop, core 2 duo t5600, 1 gig of ram, 200 gb sata hdd, and radeon x1400 videocard. i have tried to boot into jas 10.4.8 patched, and it gets only a little way into to loading the installer. it says launching crash reporter.

the kicker is that i cant even boot any live linux cds. i have tried knoppix 5.1.1, gparted .3, backtrack 2.0, and they all wont boot. they die at random times early on in the bootup.

the only distro i got to boot was my openSUSE 10.2 x86_64 installer, but it will only work if i boot it with acpi disabled. but disabling acpi in the other live cds wont work. sometimes the loader will say "hda: lost interrupt"

WTF??? i am SOOOO confused.... i cant even begin to explain... does anyone have any ideas how i can get a distro booting (no prom

t on suse installer) and OSX???

many thanks in advance!!

also, i have tried booting with platform=ACPI, platform=X86PC, and platform=ACPI|X86PC, as well as the -x option....

and when booting linux, some of the distros stop functioning when they load some kind of cdrom driver or in knoppix when it tries to access hda (cd drive)

any help would be appreciated. (10.4.8 jas patched)

ok, consider this closed.

i got it working, the pcmcia was causing all the problems. in suse, the acpi=off disables the pcmcia, so it would work. knoppix booted with knoppix nopcmcia.

and the cd drive and hdd both use irq sharing, which was causing the crazy long waits while booting different linux flavors.

OSX is installing now
