Hi all, I'm new to this forum and had a couple questions. I've done a bit of searching, both here and on other sites, but couldn't come up to a definitive answer.

Basically, I have an old Vaio desktop that should be able to run Tiger, and I want to make that box run Tiger only, no dual-boot or anything like that. From what I've read, I need to download the image files, but can I just use the DVDs that came with my MacBook?

Also, exactly what do I have to do in order to make Tiger the default OS? I'd rather have it be the standalone OS on my Vaio, but I wouldn't lose any sleep if I absolutely had to have XP/Vista installed.

I don't want to make this seem like I want to have all this info spoonfed to me, but a simple and detailed, yet to the point, walkthrough would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for everything.

There is no need to have another operating system installed. It is only a convenience for software support, Operating System recovery (With MacDrive), and updating the BIOS. At one time or another, most of my machines have had only OS X running on them.

You don't reformat the hard drive before you pop in the DVD. You use the disk utility in the installer to do the formating and partitioning of your disk. However, if you are using the latest JaS DVD with Intel, AMD, SSE2, and SSE3 support I would suggest applying both PPFs to it. The first PPF (PPF1) fixes permission problems and Natit issues. The second PPF (Disk Utility Fix) downgrades the disk utility to 10.4.7 This is necessary because at least in some cases (I'm not sure if it is always) the newest disk utility will not properly create the MBR and your installation will not work. So, its up to you. If you decide to risk it and it doesn't work... read the forum. All the info on how to fix it is here.
