xphillyx
My .dmg's refuse to open and I keep getting an error message saying it isn't recognized. Is there another program other than DiskMounter that can mount my .dmgs?
xphillyx
Okay somewhat solved the problem. I need to, when I download them, say to open it in disk utility. Anyone know why this is happening / how to solve it permanantly?
sg
if you want to change what program is used to open a file, click on the file in the finder, go to File -> Get Info, and change the "Open with" part. if you always want this new app to open those documents every time, click the 'change all' button under it. xphillyx
I've downloaded multiple ones from different sites at different times with the same results. I use Firefox. Could that have something to do with it?
sg
But when I download it to desktop or folder, and then open it with DiskUtility, it doesnt open; it isn't recognized. disk utility wont actually mount the image if you just open it with it. it will have the image file on the far left side and then you'll have to manually mount it. do you see the image on the left side after you open it up? Could that have something to do with it? I use firefox as well and I get errors trying to open .dmgs. I'll try Safari and see what happens. Okay. I download it. Save it to a folder. I then right click file and hit "open with" and go to DiskUtility. I go and I click the image on the left to try and mount it and I get an error message. cdickinson66
I have this same problem. Updated Celeron 2.53GHZ from 10.4.3 to JAS.10.4.8 8.8.1 Darwin Kernel Version 8.8.1: Mon Nov 27 18:58:11 AZOT 2006; semthex:/nebukadnezar/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386 Everything else seems to work... Except "About this Mac" crash fix did not work for me. DMGs will not mount! with either Disk Utility or DiskImageMounter. Error messages: Disk Utility : Unable to attach "xxxx.dmg" -Device not configured DiskImageMounter : Device not configured Anyone know why??? -Chuck
xphillyx
When you download it, tell it to "Open with" and open it with whatever. That SHOULD fix it. GL.
cdickinson66
Nope It doesn't seem to offer that option for DMGs anymore. Oh yeah it worked in 10.4.3 but not now, just to give a little more history info. Here's a clip . Any other folks out there with this problem? -Charles

cdickinson66
There used to be some app called FlashMount I haven't tried it yet but here it is : http://www.liquidnexus.com/?page_id=2 or just google "Flashmount" It's freeware but I will have ti try it later. If someone tries it out can they please respond to this thread. Update: here is another to try: Download the free .... Mount.app (http://mount.houchin.us/) software instead of the integral Mac OS X DiskImageMounter program within OS X. Or this link has several ways to try : http://www.macworld.com/forums/ubbthreads/...p;Number=369599 -Charles Edited January 23, 2007 by cdickinson66

So it looks like Mount is not going to work for people with this problem, well at least not with me. Could someone post the Flashmount app without the DMG and just the app that way I can get it working please?

hecker
Press the right mouse button and then press the option button to reveal the "open with" command. I could offer to download the programs you guys need and upload them as ZIP instead of DMG. hecker

tidalpassion
Open Terminal type md5 hit space drag the file in question into the Terminal window hit enter you'll see the md5 value, a long string. have someone else that got the file and had it work do the same thing. if the md5 values don't match, your file is corrupted. It might help to boot your system from the OS X installer disk, start the installer, then go into Disk Utility from there and verify or repair your drive. If you have a corrupt file system lots of weird things can happen.
