Pwolf
hey, i decided to start a new thread from the one i was in when i had the problem... anyway, after dealing with the initial installation problem, when ever i boot i get that no smoking sign thingy (the no root device error i assume?). anyway, i've tried a few things: - set the partion to active - install on an entire drive and not just one partition - only have that drive plugged into the sytem - boot from usb encloser i think i tried a few others but i did most of these last night and i can't remember >.> only thing i havn't tried is using boot options. i'm not sure how to get to the darwin boot menu. i guess i could use the dvd but how would i boot the drive the os is on? would be nice to see the actual error message also any help would be great. Apple Freak
What do you mean by "no smoking sign"? The gray Apple with a spin ball? Anyway, try to type -f on Darwin kernel... Pwolf
during boot, on the screen with the apple logo and the spinning circle at the bottom of the screen, about 1-2min into it a circle with a slash through it appears in the center. Pwolf
correction: -f doesn't let me boot, but it gives me the "you must restart your computer" screen. don't know if that helps any. Pwolf
bub: its giving me a nfs_boot_init error... found it on a few topics. anyway, i was finally able to get it to boot after realizing i wasn't installing the VIA chipset patch (stupid me for thinking i was still on an intel chipset >.<). but i was getting the "no root device error" after that (drive/partition was set to active also). So i boot it using the dvd and rd=disk1s1. after that, it booted. which is fine for me cause i don't plan on using osx that much anyway (for now...). i have a bunch of other problems i need to take care of tho. most important would be sound, i'm using a SB Audigy. afaik, they don't work. so, i'll have to get my on-board sound working. found a few threads for that. also, i use a dlink usb wireless adapter to connect to my network and i can't seem to find anything about using that. not a big problem at the moment though. I'm just glad i got it working at this point. thanks for all the help, much appreciated. i will create new threads in the future for these other problems.
