sheriffbounce
Big thanks to sheriffbounce and TheMaxx3200 for all the help... ! I've been trying to change my Mobility X1600's resolution to other than 1024x768, without much success. Quarz Extreme and OpenGL is working fine, and everything is fast, it's only the resolution that is stuck. I tried your files sheriffbounce on clean installation of "JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3": replaced the EDID data of my laptop's monitor into ATiinject.kext with Apple's Plist Editor, and then copied all 3 files to /System/Library/Extensions, deleted the extensions.mkext and extensions.cache, set the permissions and did run the disk utility, and rebooted - but I'm still getting black screen I noticed one thing when booting with -v option, there appears message "VGA: family specific mathcing fails" several times before the ATIinject gets loaded, perhaps the problem is that ATIinject should be loaded in a earlier phase of startup... ? I wonder why it's not working for me, my device ID is same as yours too - Vendor: 1002, Device: 71C5 (my laptop is Asus A6JA). Anyway, thanks for all support. please post your EDID as you got it from the phoenix tool + your atiinject here so that i can check the data... please also post the name of the display shown in phoenix tool cheers sheriff

sheriffbounce
I've too an Asus a6ja and I've the same problem...black screen after reboot with the correct ATIinject file since others get it working with ASUS i'm 100% sure that u made something wrong and a black screen with the correct files posted before for me sounds like you used the wrong EDID. please check phoenix tool again... just an example for u guys: when i start phoenix tool it gives me 4 EDIDs from the registry... so if you have problems post the display name phoenix shows + the EDID this makes the search for the issue alot easier... 127 ppl have been downloading the x1600 package i posted and 4 or 5 complained about this method not working...common guys... i'm in the technical support for HP... 95% of all issues are usermistakes and looking on this errorrate i guess it's the same issue... cheers sheriff

I seem to have same LCD as thricemike... at least our edid data looks same. Here's also the atiinject.kext I've used. I also tried the info2.plist (renamed to plist.info), with only edid for internal LCD, but it didn't work either. Thank you very much sheriffbounce for your time. experventol
i have a asus 6ja too, and apparently for me, i get a black screen too. But i realised that it wasnt a black screen at all. There is actually image on the screen, the backlight for the internal display just isnt switched on for some reason. After shining a light on the screen, i can see that the atiinject kext actually does work. Just without the backlight. Which isnt that much of a use. hahaha

bluesonic
I was just playing with the plist.info in atiinject, after about 10 reboots with modified values... I got my A6JA to work in native 1280x800 resolution too, but without backlight - I remember earlier I got screen split into 4 small screens without backlight... I used plist2.info, and removed a lot values from there (all the "@1"-staring ones) and changed the "@0,AAPL,boot-display" to 0 ... I'll keep you posted. But this is step to right direction! also - all the resolutions are now available in the System Preferences -> Displays update: at the moment I've been trying out several values, it seems setting "AAPL,backlight-control" to 0 makes the backlight on, but you'll have a black (but lit screen), and setting it to 1 makes the screen work and you can see the desktop if you place spotlight directly in front of the LCD, but the backligjht is not working... AAPL,backlight-control enable /disable support in driver and driver try to control it try AppleIntelPanelA (display param handler ) witch control real device on imacs or macbook pro no PC based laptop have this device to control backlight levels directly , on lappies backlight is controlled by video chip (there is mmio register for that )

bluesonic
Thanks for the information np_, would you happen to have any idea why some people are not having issue with the backlight? I have installed your laptopdisplay driver too, and it seem to load correctly but the monitor information override generated by DisplayUtility doesn't seem to get used by OSX... I placed the folder into /System/Library/Displays/Overrides/ with permissions corrected. Would it be any use for anyone if I posted my ioregs or something else here? thricemike, you have same edid information as I. You have Asus A6JA laptop too? Unfortunately I have not found working solution yet, but when I do I'll let you =)

sheriffbounce
QUESTION GUYS: which info.plist inside of the ATIInject.kext did u use? info.plist or the info2.plist ??? if u only used info.plist please try the other one... solved some problems with other ASUS laptops... as far as remember my previous ASUS laptop u guys have DVI-D external connector, or? the normal info.plist is configured for dual monitor support maybe this also causes some issues... just try info2.plist with ur EDID and rename it to info.plist (deleting the other one... just a thought cheers sheriff
experventol
The info.plist gave me 4 splitted screens. Also without the backlight. When using the info2.plist, the resolution was finally correct, but again without the backlight.
bluesonic
sheriffbounce, I have tried both plists, plist.info, and then deleted it and renamed plist2.info as plist.info - in the kext you provided in one of your posts. experventol - your experiences sound pretty much same as mine. I can have the correct resolution, but without backlight. Have you tried changing "@0,AAPL,boot-display" display value in info.plist? When I set it to 1 (e.g. enabled), the backlight comes on, but the screen is black (but you can see the light on the edges). Also, this only works when starting the laptop after it has been shut off, e.g. just reboot wont take the effect.
experventol
for me, setting it to 1 or 0 doesnt seem to have any effect. The screen remains without the backlight. Maybe i am doing it wrongly. haha

bluesonic
Here's a kext with plist.info that makes my LCD have backlight, also the laptop's builtin background light control keys work, e.g. you can adjust the brightness... however the screen is black, BUT you can quickly see the login manager and the blue background, but then the display gets the black stripes over it - and couple of seconds after that goes completely black (with light). atiinject.kext_backgroundlightworks.zip

experventol
bluesonic, your kext didnt make the backlight lit. it was still the same, the image without the backlight. bresson, your kext worked, but again without the backlight. Running you script seems to hang the computer when it was loading the iondrv.kext part. So i had to do it manually. But still, it didnt work. haha Cheers people, hopefully sooner or later, we are gonna hit jackpot.
