Sleepy Sentry
EDIT- The problem has changed. Please see my next post in this thread for more details. I installed the JaS 10.4.7 on a 40 GB Western Digital IDE hard drive on my highly modified Dell computer (specs below). Installation seemed to be successful, but upon booting the machine up, I only make it to the grey screen with the white apple where after some time, a white "No Smoking" like symbol appears without the cigarette over the apple. Dell Dimension 4700 Pentium 4 3 GHz 1.5 GB RAM Nvidia 7800 GT 80 GB SATA hard drive (Windows only- OS X not installed on this 40 GB IDE hard drive (OS X has this to itself) Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Sound Card DVD-ROM drive of unknown brand. Hyper threading has been turned off and the IDE hard drive is set as the master. The DVD-ROM is the slave and is on the same cable as the hard drive. I've left the machine hanging for a good 20-30 minutes and nothing changes. While hanging, the hard drive is not being accessed at all. What is going on here? Rammjet
What packages did you select in the Customize window right before clicking the Install button? http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=4499 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36652-1047-hangs-on-boot/#findComment-260722 Share on other sites
Sleepy Sentry
Thanks for the quick help. It seems as though I skipped past the customize option without realizing it! I did a reinstall, but an getting a double panic upon startup, before I even reach the gray screen . Here are the packages I installed: Intel Combo Updat inst Intel SSE3 Sound Blaster USB Audio Support Wireless Networking Support I will post back in a moment with a picture of the double panic. The person in this thread seems to be having the same problem as me. He also happens to have the same CPU. Booting with cpus=1 hasn't worked either. EDIT- Ok, here is a high-res picture of the error. http://www.instantunblock.com/kernelpanic.jpg According to the wiki, someone with a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop got 10.6.4 working with the SSE2 package. I might reinstall and try that. I always thought my CPU had SSE3, but maybe I'm wrong. Sleepy Sentry
Well, my Pentium 4 Prescott CPU supports SSE3 according to CPU-Z. I can't see why the SSE3 package wouldn't work then.
