Our very own Macgirl informs us that "Fusion," the VMware virtualization solution for Macs, is now being released in beta. VMware describes Fusion thusly:

The new VMware desktop product for the Mac, codenamed Fusion, allows Intel-based Macs to run x86 operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, NetWare and Solaris, in virtual machines at the same time as Mac OS X. It is built on VMware's rock-solid and advanced desktop virtualization platform that is used by over four million users today.

With Fusion, you can run traditional PC applications on your Mac: if you need to run PC applications, you can now do so by leveraging the power of virtual machine technology.

Hmmm... sounds familiar...

You can download the beta from the Fusion Beta Program website. Release notes are here.

Let us know your impressions of this new product, especially in comparison to Parallels. What do you think?

Downloaded it and tried it a few hours ago.

Its a 110MB download. :/

The build was extremely slow to use when installing and using an OS, probebly due to the debug code.

I'm going back to parallels for now even though vmware supports AMD64 OSes. :)

Could somebody please translate this into English? :D

I'm just trying to find out where I can download this. I've tried my Beta registration e-mail address, but it doesn't work. Go figure. I guess I need an e-mail that was used to purchase an actual VMware product.

I was actually talking with a buddy of mine about how long it is taking for VMWare to come out with the beta of Fusion and then i get an E-mail about it! Installed it on my Imac and am very happy. I have to admit that I'm so used to running vmware workstation on the pc and linux side that I'm used to how awesome it truly is, otherwise i'd be going nuts over it. I've attached some screens i took of the Ubuntu vm i have running.

For me works very fast, I'm writing this within Fusion and FireFox, is even faster than the Mac Firefox.

Of course I never tested Parallels so I am biased :P but I just made a test, pages loads faster in Fusion :thumbsup_anim:

EDIT:

Well I tested the Drag and Drop feature it work only in one way, tested the two CPU feature, works well too, USB2.0 appears to work, a bit slower though.

Something is fuxxored with the installer. Uninstall then reinstall.

It worked for me.

Hmm... didn't work. It takes a strangely long amount of time for it to process the license key I use, just to eventually fail. Maybe a problem on VMware's part?
