retroz
I got a version (PHOTOSHOP CS3) from him and can probably get someone here who helps me a version too, he works for Adobe in Boston. Here is the problem.... It needs 10.4.8, I have (see specs below) a perfect running machine...and its been a while since I researched (I did search the forums though) on the best and easiest way to update to 10.4.8 but can't find the links anymore. There were some on USENET JAS 10.4.8, but not sure if thats just plug in play as in install and done. What is the best way - - the REAL PROBLEM is I have AUDIO/VIDEO work that can not, simply can not be lost with boot errors and am questioning whether it is worth it since I have CS2 running, although slow, but I have FCP, Drums, Plugs, Unison, Pages, iLIFE, etc and do not want to mess that up. Your help and links on "how to" greatly appreciated.....I did the TERMINAL update so its not as though I am inept, I just dont want to reinstall the hours of software I have should I make a boo-boo. Thanks! PS. I found this link and do NOT know where to begin...much more info than going from 10.4.4 to 10.4.6 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34871 After looking at the above thread, I became overwhelmed as there seemed to be no clear way to update as was the case for 10.4.6 and using a few terminal commands.....therefore I would appreciate if some kind soul would look at my specs and help me to figure out the best way to update to 10.4.8......waiting for the new MB to arrive at my store (duo core 2) or maybe a 24 inch iMAC anyway, but for the time being I have some critial apps and files on here and do not want to risk corruption of this maching until my real mac comes. retroz
uh... wasn't CS3 released to the public less than a week ago? my cousin works for mozilla, i can get you a version of firefox too. Well that was a helpful thread... Hee, hee, yes, it was, but I can get any Adobe software....can you get an upgrade path too and any adobe software with serial in your name??? I also have another cousin at Sun Micro, has writtern several books on jave.... Anyway, Sorry if this came across the wrong way, what I meant was a real version that you can keep, get a serial and update via adobe. Geeesh. Some people are touchy. EPDM
Hi, Okay. as far as Photoshop is concerned. It should work with ANY version of 10.4.x. The problem is that the installer won't go further on the previous versions. This is IMHO a bad move from Apple to push ppl to upgrade. They probably thought that 10.4.8 with the new kernel would be troublesome for hackers to implement on generic PC's (and they are right in asuming that). Anyway, if you can copy a Photoshop installation from one computyer to another you'd see that it'll work. Someone tried Photoshop on 10.4.3 and reported a success (it's somewhere in these forums) If you really want to have 10.4.8 then follow http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=33342 I started doing a fresh install of 10.4.6 JAS DVD (this was in fact the only successfull install I ever made with this DVD as my Myzar 10.45 gives much less headache than this one.) In fact I first tried installing over my 10.4.5 which worked beautifully but after following the procedure, the system hung at the kernel message. This is due to the BORIS ATA drivers 3.2 which are incompatible with 8.8.1 kernel (I have a Radeon X1600pro). So do a fresh 10.4.6 install (perhaps with the JAS DVD). DON'T FIX ANYTHING WITH REGARDS TO DRIVERS (especially ATI drivers) Follow the steps outlined in the above article. After the final reboot it shall start up. If you have an ATI Radeon X1600pro card download Boris' 3.5 drivers. The website links to 3.6 but this version is incomplete (only about 3 MB while it should +7 MB). http://www.necnet.de/krass.man/Installers/...nstaller_files/ Here are all the ATI installers. To sum up: Erase partition (Diskutil) Install 10.4.6 Download http://www.cheapfilehost.com/file.php?file...54d69df73cf07a0 Unzip the above to desktop Download Combo upgrade http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/mac...pdateintel.html Start install BUT DON'T REBOOT WHEN ASKED! Type in Terminal cd desktop sudo cp -R /mach_kernel /mach_old sudo cp -R /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.old To backup the kernel and loginwindow.app sudo cp -R mach_kernel/mach_kernel /mach_kernel sudo cp -R mach_kernel/AppleSMBios.kext /System/Library/Extensions sudo cp -R mach_kernel/IOATAFamily.kext /System/Library/Extensions Restore loginwindow.app from your backup or use the one here: http://www.badongo.com/file/1755820 Clean up permissions (DiskUtil) reboot After reboot install Radeon 3.5 or 3.6 drivers if required (http://www.necnet.de/krass.man/Installers/ATIX1x00%20Installer_files/) 3.6 might work on X1800/X1900 but is incomplete for X1600. Hope this helps EPDM P.S.: Perhaps your cousin can get us a PS CS3 too (hint) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36137-how-to-stable-upgrade-to-1048-from-1046-cousin-works-for-adobe/#findComment-260942 Share on other sites
eGWan
more easy if you use the package in my sig, you only need original apple 1048 combo update and my update package if you not sure have nx/hpet option in BIOS just use semthex kernel ..and you're done Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36137-how-to-stable-upgrade-to-1048-from-1046-cousin-works-for-adobe/#findComment-260946 Share on other sites
Rammjet
If the installer is hanging because of OSX version, then right-click on the Photoshop installer. Go to Contents -> Resources and drag the InstallCheck (or is it InstallationCheck) script to the Trash. Then run the installer. OMX-Knuckles
I'm not seeing anything like that in my installer.
