Hello, forum users!

I would like to know how to install MacOS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) or MacOS 10.10 (Yosemite) on my old HP655 laptop. Here are its characteristics:

- **Screen**: 15.6", 1366x768
- **Processor**: AMD E2 1800, 1.7 GHz
- **GPU**: AMD Radeon HD 7340
- **RAM**: 2 GB, DDR3, 1600 MHz
- **Disk**: HDD 320 GB, 5400 rpm

Is it possible to install hackintosh on this laptop? What Kext files and drivers will be needed?

When checking the BIOS-Legacy settings, I did not find the following options:
- SATA
-HPET
- FAST BOOT
- Above 4G Decoding

Can you recommend installation methods and necessary drivers (Kext files) for this laptop?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Is it really worth the hassle? I mean as a boot loader Clover has evolved so much to accommodate Apple's OS of today and I am not sure if you can get it to boot those OS of old.

Not too sure if OC is also up to the job without a lot of 'giggery-pokery' of sorts. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I can prove me wrong in my assumption, as they say.....'Nothing is impossible'.

Installing macOS on an Older PC or Laptop: A Challenging Task

Installing macOS on a PC not designed for it can be extremely challenging, if not impossible, especially with your hardware. About 8 years ago, I attempted to install macOS El Capitan and Sierra on a similar system, a Packard Bell laptop with an AMD APU 2500 and a Radeon HD 8250.

It was a very time-consuming process to first patch a compatible kernel and then get the GPU to function at least partially.

Results from My Experience:

The GPU operates without graphics acceleration, making it suitable only for basic office tasks.

Productive use of macOS on this hardware is virtually impossible.

The operating systems you mentioned are outdated. When you go online, you will likely encounter problems due to incompatible browsers and applications.

Your Laptop and macOS:

Based on the specifications of your HP655 laptop (AMD E2-1800, Radeon HD 7340, 2 GB RAM), the chances of successfully installing macOS are extremely low. AMD APUs and older GPUs are known to be only minimally or not at all compatible with macOS.

Why Is It Difficult?

Lack of Support:
It’s unlikely you’ll find anyone who can effectively assist you with this. You would need to locate a patched AMD kernel (e.g., for FX CPUs) and dive deep into configuring the Clover or OpenCore bootloader. Additionally, you would need to use a Fake-ID to even attempt to get the GPU to work.

Graphics Issues:
The Radeon HD 7340 does not provide native graphics acceleration, severely limiting macOS functionality.

BIOS Limitations:
The BIOS options you mentioned (e.g., Above 4G Decoding) are not available in your older BIOS, as these settings are only found in newer systems. You would need to find appropriate BIOS settings for Hackintosh compatibility and apply the necessary adjustments to your BIOS.

@spakk I commented with a 'Thanks' for your more in-depth explanation and reasons to the Poster's query.

As you detailed, although do-able, the installation would be fraught with problems and pit falls along the way making the process unworthy.
