Malee Elliott
Hi All, I am relatively new to all this and have been trying to upgrade my Catalina which has been running perfectly for 4 years . But now I keep getting messages that my OS is out of date and some applications I can not upgrade. To start with I was trying to install Sequoia using open core, but I was advised here that I could use Clover 5160. So I have updated to clover 5160 but now the system will not restart, shutdown or sleep. Applications close down and I am left with an empty desktop and frozen mouse, with the computer still running. This is also effecting efforts to try and install Sequioa, the installation will proceed to the stage at 12 mins, when I think it wants to reboot but it just freezes the same way. I have DUCK DUCKED and Duck Ducked trying to find a solution to no avail. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction. While Clover is still a fully functional downloader, it is certainly outdated. The main problem is that the authors of this bootloader were never able to provide a full structured manual. What is there does not stand up to any criticism. So when a new OpenCore bootloader came out with great tools and great tutorials, the vast majority of users switched to it. Accordingly, the probability of receiving qualified assistance with the OpenCore bootloader is much higher. For example, I open your config and see that half of the parameters are missing. Who will deal with this and compare your config with the sample? Could it be the one who gives such great advice? I, for one, have no such desire. Anto65
@Malee Elliott Try EFI.zip putting it in a bootable USB and see if it boots Catalina ( BMC kexts are currently excluded ) ( Click on the Reset Nvram icon before booting it ) Please add your hardware specs in your signature https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/336486-video-how-to-add-a-signature/#comment-2647874 Edited 20 hours ago by Anto65
Malee Elliott
HI Anto 65. That did not work, and resetting nvrm I think has caused the computer to no longer boot at all. Stuck on the apple progress bar

Malee Elliott
I managed to get the system back using my old 5098 clover, your open core hangs very early in boot. I HAD PREVIOUSLY set up the OC but couldnot get it too work. I HAVE A THREAD started on here regarding the problems i was having. But my efi did boot longer. Not sure how to link to it
