Can you use your camera via USB connection if your phone or Mac is offline?

I am not sure what you mean, both P/C and Phone has to be in operation surely.

Both have to be on the same WIFi network regardless as far as I understand.

I thought, for example, let's say that you turn of WiFi on your phone, there should be no technical reason not to use it as Continuity Camera via USB connection.

But if that's a requirement, regardless of the connection type (USB or WiFi), that both phones have to be on same wifi no matter what, then we're back to square one :)

I have a 'camera refresh' problem both, on WiFi and USB connection, and not sure what to do next to at least enable it through USB :)

Any suggestions? :)

Ok, I understand your original query when you mentioned the phone being off line.

To answer the query, I turned off the wifi on my phone and made the connection by USB only.

The iPhone Camera worked perfectly in this configuration without the refreshing glitch like when in wifi mode only.

So in essence, the phone Camera can be used connected by USB even when no wifi is available or off line.

Hope this answered your question.

That's a problem then. There must be something wrong with my USB communication. I have SSDT-USB-Reset.aml and SSDT-HPET.aml to deal with my usual USB problems. So far it has been working perfectly, but I guess I will have to play with that until I get Continuity Camera working via USB properly.

Thanks!

Hi again @eSaF :)

Just wanted to ask you if you disabled wireless on your phone by going to General -> Wifi and flipping the switch? Becuase if you disable it from your Home Screen it's not trully disabled.

Thanks!

Yes I completely isolated wifi connection from the phone.

I don't have a clue about what's going on. I can't get it to work via USB. Maybe I just need to map my ports properly although I'm on a laptop on which everything works as it should.

I can backup/restore/sync/upgrade through this same cable and ports.....but can't push continuity camera through :)

So....it's me again :)

I bought a new cable and USB -> USB-C adapter and the Continuity Camera is still not working via USB port.

What I wanted to ask you guys.....so any of you, whom have it running via USB port, are you using USB-C ports exclusively? Or can you make it run over normal USB(A) ports (USB 2/3)?

Thanks!

Sorry Bro, wish I could help, my connection is by using the Apple charging cable connected to USB 3 always.

I thought I had a USB adapter to test this for you but the one I have is a USB 2 (female) to USB 3 (male).

No issues @eSaF, you've done enough.

I guess I'm the only guy on the planet with this problem :).....Tried googling it.....and literally found noone...

Here's a screenshot of my iPhone in Finder:

And through this same cable, if I switch off the Wifi camera immediately dissapears. Works on Wifi though :)

You mentioned somewhere before that OC (or OCLP) devs might not be aware of the 12 secs reconnect problem. How do we make them aware? I guess wireless is my only route now :)

Thanks!

I guess on their GitHub OCLP section, but as OCLP is primarily for Intel Macs, don't hold your breath for help on a Hackintosh.

I am not aware of the same problem on Intel Macs as I'm a frequent visitor to their Forums looking for clues and tips but yet to come across any with this problem.

@registracije registracije Omg how did you get it to work on wifi?? I am the opposite mine works only on cable....can you post your config so I can test it on my 9470m which is ivy like yours and same hd4000 card??

For the sake of repeating my self, 'Hand off to iPhone Camera' works perfect in both connections in Sonoma.

In Sequoia USB connection is flawless, wireless connection is like the example shown here in this short clip along with the disconnection msg even though connection is not lost, just keeps refreshing.

hi @robi62,

yes I can and here it is. Stipped of all my data. If nothing else you can recreate it and adjust. And in the spirit of helping, maybe you can attach yours so I can check if there's anything there that I might have missed, to enable it via cable. Just keep in mind that WiFi camera is completely useless for anything but having fun...it will reconnect/blur every 12 secs or so....

There is some bloatware there of all the trying I did, but laptop still works like a charm. We can clean that up in case you have some success with this excersize.

hi @eSaF,

if you really have nothing but time on your hands, would it be a problem to check my config and see if I did something really really stupid, please? It seems I'm the only one who can't get this right, so it must be me :)

Thanks!

Hi Bro, by far I am no expert, all my successes are down to pure luck and copying others.

Whilst I am not familiar with Laptop Configurations, I had a look at your config.plist as requested.

By my limited knowledge, you have all the necessary OCLP settings, files and kexts in place.

@registracije registracije Hi did you use chris111 efi as a start base for your efi ?? I can see somethings there Also I would not use usbreset.aml Have you tried to boot with out it?

Also Chris111 uses 7 series injecto kext so no need for other 2 usb kexts you have

My advice is donot use usbreset aml and 2 usb kext you added boot again after Nvram reset and try connection with usb

Edited by robi62

@registracije registracije could you actually send me a link for the full Efi ???\

I can build an efi from config but kexts version might differ and I want to keep same version to test...

I cannot boot with your config strange considering very similar specs

Update I managed to boot continuity works with usb but unfortunately cannnot test with wifi as I cannot get bluetooth to work

I DMed you the download link.

I tried playing with everything....SSDTs Kexts etc.....but i just can't see that camera on USB. In Hackintool I can see the phone but not phones camera. Not sure if that's some kind of limitation of the phone or maybe it's not whitelisted by OS.....god knows. I have iPhone SE 3rd Gen (2022). Also I have Intel Macbook Air (Haswell) with HD5000. Connected it there. Same behaviour. Interesting thing is, the camera blurs on wifi there as well....I thought that was only Hackintosh problem. But with that I can at least open some kind of a case with OCLP devs ;)

I would like to try what you have. I can DM you the upload link so you can share your EFI there?

Thanks!

At this point, I think we can deduce if the behavior is the same on a real Mac then the Phone is not compatible for 'Hand Off to Camera' function even though it's a 2022 model and one would think it should. Just my thoughts.

Maybe do some research to find what iPhones are compatible with the app would be time better spent.

Hopefully you will find the answer which will not force you to spend any unnecessary money towards Mister Apple's pocket book. Good luck.

As a side note I take it all other 'Continuity' functions are working, i.e 'AirDrop', 'iMessage', 'Mail', 'Notes', etc.

hi I tried your efi with usb very good wifi no good

I can share my refi but you have a different resolution for display and also different cpu so need to change that accordingly

I also had a MacBook air before 2017 and also did not work

You're right.....I think it has something to do with the phone. There are few more things to try....like resetting the network settings of the phone or hard reset. I will lose all of my settings that way just like I lost all of my cards in Apple Pay yesterday when I logged of the iCloud :)

Also it's very interesting to see that on a very similar hardware, now with exactly the same EFI, @robi62 has completely different results. Oposite I would say. @roby62which phone have you got if we may ask? :)

And yes, other continuity fetures, along with the entire laptop in general are working incredibly well. I'm using @chris1111 HP-Probook-Elitebook-OC work as a base, and in spite of his statements that it will work only on clean installs, I'm updating and actively using this laptop for years now. Since Big Sur at least.

And camera on it, which also works, is just {censored}, so I really could use this feature.....I'm trying to figure out how to reach OC devs to submit bugreport about Continuity Camera reconnecting over WiFi every 12 secs or so....who knows....maybe I'll succeed :)

hi @niknod @eSaF @robi62 and others.

Maybe we can let them know that there's more of us with the same problem?

https://github.com/acidanthera/bugtracker/issues/2448

Just pile up the messages after me stating that you have the same issue.
