After countless months of waiting, Adobe has finally announced that it will be releasing a Beta of the new Photoshop CS3 on Friday, December 15th. As expected, the release is a universal application, meaning that it will run natively on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. Adobe stated that this is an exciting time for the Mac and that Adobe wanted to help smooth out the transition to Intel-based Macs with a preview release of Photoshop CS3. Adobe gives us more info about the new Photoshop Beta.

Packed with new features, Photoshop CS3 beta also includes a pre-release version of a major upgrade to Adobe Bridge, as well as a preview release of the all-new Adobe Device Central. Photoshop customers can use Adobe Device Central to design, preview, and test compelling mobile content, created specifically for smaller screens. This new tool, integrated in the Photoshop CS3 beta, simplifies and accelerates the creation of mobile content through a preview environment and built-in device profiles.

To utilize Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta, customers require a serial number from either Adobe Photoshop CS2, Adobe Creative Suite® 2, Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio, Adobe Design Bundle, Adobe Web Bundle or Adobe Video Bundle. Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta is available in English only. Customers who have a valid serial number for all other language versions of qualifying Adobe products can download the software. Without a serial number, users can still download Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta, with the product expiring after two days. Customers must register online with Adobe or have an existing Adobe.com membership account to access the software.

The System Requirements for Mac are OS X 10.4.8 or 10.5, a 1GHz G4 or G5, or an Intel-based Mac with 512 MB of RAM or more. Adobe will also be releasing a version for Windows XP.

Update: The Photoshop CS3 beta has been released. You can download it here.

I'm just hoping there will be a way to have old plug-ins work.... But i'm not holding my breath, if ya know what i mean.

I don't believe there is a way to run PPC code inside Intel code... Can anyone think of examples? Remember all the trouble we had with azureus, have to recompile SWT and the like...

Oh well, f*** the plug-ins, this is gonna rock!

I wonder if pirate keys work :P

I'm guessing they will, because apparently even if you're not a CS2 license holder, you can still use the software for two days before expiry.

So this either means you put your CS2 serial into the application and it gives you a years worth of use or you submit your serial online which spits out a super duper special cs3 license number. If this is the case you can be sure MSJ will have it within minutes and SerialBox & KCN within the month. =)

Hmmmm, why is it I can download from bittorrent at 2MB/sec easy, but akamai gives me a measly 135KB/s

the fact that i'm in australia shouldn't matter unless I'm routed to akamai in Australia which happens to be on dial-up on top of uluru?

grrrr....

Still, tomorrow is going to suck when 10,000+ people all get 1kbps each.

Good point. I was about to postpone. :(

You shouldn't get slow speeds, EVER! from akamai. I think the only reason I am getting these slow speeds is the caches here in Australia have not filled yet with this. That's my guess anyway. My ISP has 4 akamai clusters and I normally get rip roaring speeds from them.

Might do a test, after this and see how fast it comes...

Akamai is why you can get apple trailers and apple & microsoft software updates so fast, because akamai is what the internet should be.

Sorry, but the serial number you entered is not eligible for the Photoshop CS3 Beta download. Please try your Photoshop CS2 serial number again, or, if you do not own a license for Photoshop CS2, you can purchase one on Adobe.com and use the serial number to download the Photoshop CS3 Beta.

What the hell man, that pisses me off. Won't give me a proper CS3 key!
