Am I reading this right that Broadcom based chips are not working?

Not one of mine works...

I have three native cards in Monterey and in Ventura:

And a Fenvi-Clone... and none of them work

I have looked a bit and we are missing kext...

This is not in Sonoma, but if it comes out in Ventura

What Kexts if any are you using?

I don't use any, I didn't need them with these wiffi cards... they worked OOTB..

I have two laptops plus the i3 6100 that without wifi are of no use to me 🥴

Mine gives a different error... probably because I don't have internet access because broadcom doesn't work...

Tomorrow I will connect it by cable to the router to see if it works 😄

They have really killed Broadcom

Curious if this also applies to original Apple Airport cards, Broadcom based.

What type of wiffi do Sonoma supported macs use???

Because as much as I look there is nothing of Broadcom in Sonoma 😔

My Apple Broadcom card isn't detected.

Plus side. Current AMD patches work just fine :D

Hi Guys.

You can discuss Wireless support in macOS Sonoma here.

Since macOS Sonoma dropped support for many legacy Broadcom devices you can discuss alternatives or workarounds here.

P.S.

As I mentioned in macOS Sonoma topic it's too soon to go and buy tons of unsupported or partially supported WiFi adapters so be patient and wait and see how the upcoming releases of macOS Sonoma might change or how the developers find a way to solve and/or add the legacy support for Broadcom devices back in macOS Sonoma.

The legend Hervé over at OSX Latitude posted details in this thread https://osxlatitude.com/forums/topic/18228-macos-sonoma-140-beta1-early-feedback-and-findings/

Sample of post pasted here:

  • Sonoma 1st beta officially drops 7th gen. Kaby Lake platforms (on top of older ones of course) but, for the moment, retains KBL graphics drivers. Why? Simple: because it's required to support Amber Lake UHD617 graphics of MBA8,1.
  • Sonoma 1st beta drops Broadcom legacy 802.11ac wireless chipsets that Ventura still supported through IO80211FamilyLegacy kext: 14e4:43ba, 14e4:43a3 and 14e4:43a0, i.e. BCM43602, BCM4350 and BCM4360. Big Sur had already dropped support for the last 802.11bgn cards that Apple had retained up to Catalina. Supporting those older 802.11ac chipsets through a kext bearing the name "legacy" should have been quite an obvious hint in itself as far as what the future held...
  • Sonoma 1st beta supports only the following Broadcom chipsets: 14e4:43dc, 14e4:4464, 14e4:4488, 14e4:4425, 14e4:4433 and 14e4:4434, i.e. BCM4355 (802.11ac), BCM4364 (802.11ac), BCM4377b (802.11ac), BCM4378 (802.11ax), BCM4387 (802.11ax) and BCM4388 (802.11ax). Afaik, all those are provided as specific SOCs to Apple by Broadcom, i.e. chips to be soldered on Apple motherboards and not available on add-on mini-PCIe/M.2 cards.
  • https://wikidevi.wi-cat.ru/Broadcom
  • With regards to the wireless chipsets fitted to Intel Mac platforms supported by Sonoma, it's as follows:
    • 2018 Mac mini8,1 -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
    • 2018/2019 MacBookAir8,x -> BCM4355 (pci14e4,43dc)
    • 2020 MacBookAir9,1 -> BCM4377b (pci14e4,4488)
    • 2018/2019 MacBookPro15,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
    • 2019/2020 MacBookPro16,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
    • 2019 iMac19,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
    • 2020 iMac20,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
    • 2017 iMacPro1,1 -> BCM4355 (pci14e4,43dc)
    • 2019 MacPro7,1 -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)

Just to get the ball rolling:

Atheros AR93xx didn't work either but Intel is working with itlwm and HeliPort

Airdrop is what the main cause 4 concern is.

Ok, so this is what's gona happen with some people, we have a combo M.2 card like the BCM94360NG.

In this case the WIFI is cactus, but BT is still functional. So how to resolve to get Airdrop?

Swapping the BCM94360NG with the Intel M.2 combo card may give working WIFI but the BT won't work for Airdrop. so that's out.

What about leaving the BCM94360NG in, WIFI is dead on it, so adding a working USB WIFI adapter, will this and the functional BT on the BCM94360NG give us working Airdrop?

Otherwise, we need a full M.2 combo card replacement based on new chip solutions some of which mentioned in first post.

I also wished people would stop announcing 'working wifi' or 'working BT' when specifically the feature set such as Airdrop does not work, that extends to muppets saying Airdrop does work then we later have to test our selves to discover no it {censored} doesn't Airdrop sees the iPhone but it won't transfer a file or receive one. Need to be upfront, rather than posting deceptive {censored} then later claim naivety or laziness.

@draylax

As far as I know, AirDrop, Handoff and continuity is only fully functional when macOS uses Broadcom WiFi/BT chipsets, on other chipsets like Atheros, RealTek and Intel it's not working properly, on older versions of macOS like High Sierra, Mojave and Catalina AirDrop could have been used when you open AirDrop window at the same time on both devices but it's no longer the case.

About Intel WiFi/BT I haven't test it so I'm not surprised if it doesn't work either.

About the new combo M.2 cards we need to wait and see if a vendor decides to make them and sell them other wise the best option could be OCLP.

Then by your definition, no one should ever say that anything is "working."  Whenever anyone here says that anything is "working," it is understood that "working" means in their test environment, under their conditions and to their specifications.  Same as any auto maker claiming a miles/kilometers per gallon/liter rating with the disclaimer "your milage may vary."  I would say the laziness is in assuming that anything works in one's own environment, to one's own specifications without testing it.

That said, my HackBookPro6,2 works perfectly ;)

I have the same problem although it may come a bit earlier in the install process for me.  Either way, I was able to resolve it by disabling BluetoolFixup.kext before running the update.  Once it installs, I re-enable the kext and it and Sonoma run fine.

You reported this same BluetoolFixup.kext experience with an earlier update and I believe that others reported a similar experience with certain Ventura updates.  It would be interesting to know if anyone else is experiencing this BluetoolFixup.kext "conflict" with Sonoma OTA.

Updates also fail on my side with BluetoolFixup and disabling it before the update does resolve the issue.

Oh my GOD!!! I have disabled BluetoolFixup.kext and the Lenovo L390 has updated without problems.. :w00t:

Now it would be interesting to find the common denominator that causes the BluetoolFixup.kext conflict with Sonoma OTA.  I have BluetoolFixup.kext 2.6.8 [Dev] installed on my HackBookPro6,2 and it does NOT block Sonoma OTA.

My config is as follows:

  • SMBIOS Model: MBP6,2
  • Open Core 0.9.3 [Release]
  • Lilu 1.6.6
  • SIP (csr-active-config): <03080000>
