[pre-release] macOS Sonoma

I would like to thank Hervé about this detailed recap that I just copied.

I paste it here in order to let people stop arguing about wireless issues, both related to 1st beta (or ongoing betas) and broadcom chipsets.

- Sonoma 1st beta officially drops 7th gen. Kaby Lake platforms (on top of older ones of course) but, for the moment, retains KBL graphics drivers. Why? Simple: because it's required to support Amber Lake UHD617 graphics of MBA8,1.
- Sonoma 1st beta drops Broadcom legacy 802.11ac wireless chipsets that Ventura still supported through IO80211FamilyLegacy kext: 14e4:43ba, 14e4:43a3 and 14e4:43a0, i.e. BCM43602, BCM4350 and BCM4360. Big Sur had already dropped support for the last 802.11bgn cards that Apple had retained up to Catalina. Supporting those older 802.11ac chipsets through a kext bearing the name "legacy" should have been quite an obvious hint in itself as far as what the future held...
- Sonoma 1st beta supports only the following Broadcom chipsets: 14e4:43dc, 14e4:4464, 14e4:4488, 14e4:4425, 14e4:4433 and 14e4:4434, i.e. BCM4355 (802.11ac), BCM4364 (802.11ac), BCM4377b (802.11ac), BCM4378 (802.11ax), BCM4387 (802.11ax) and BCM4388 (802.11ax). Afaik, all those are provided as specific SOCs to Apple by Broadcom, i.e. chips to be soldered on Apple motherboards and not available on add-on mini-PCIe/M.2 cards.

With regards to the wireless chipsets fitted to Intel Mac platforms supported by Sonoma, it's as follows:
- 2018 Mac mini8,1 -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
- 2018/2019 MacBookAir8,x -> BCM4355 (pci14e4,43dc)
- 2020 MacBookAir9,1 -> BCM4377b (pci14e4,4488)
- 2018/2019 MacBookPro15,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
- 2019/2020 MacBookPro16,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
- 2019 iMac19,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
- 2020 iMac20,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
- 2017 iMacPro1,1 -> BCM4355 (pci14e4,43dc)
- 2019 MacPro7,1 -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)

I am using iMac20,2 on my 10th gen comet lake and I didn't had to change a single thing for installing Sonoma. So it's possible a config issue. Use the debug version of OpenCore and generate a bootlog

That's a problem of linear structured forums using pages in general.

Thanks for your post acquarius13.

the next round of questions will inevitably be, what M.2 WIFI/BT combo cards are available that will run natively on Sonoma.

It’s getting tiring, I have the BCM94360NG bought for Ventura and its about the 5th Wifi and or BT bit of hardware I’ve had to buy, had several WIFI pcie cards, various BT USB adapters now the BCM94360NG, what’s next thats needed, cos I don’t have PCIe slots for another WIFI card and no more USB ports for a new BT adapter.

I suppose another question is, if WIFI is gona be broken in Sonoma for many of us, will Airdrop work (or can we get it working) if enable and connect to the network with wired ethernet, that’s one alternative to think about.

@draylax

I strongly suggest to wait and see what happens with the future releases of Sonoma in regard to WiFi compatibility and support before buying devices. Things may have change in the next releases or maybe developers find a way to add the legacy support back.

I suggest you use MacBookPro15,1

And based on my boot-args in this EFI

https://osxlatitude.com/forums/topic/19378-lenovo-thinkpad-e470-efi-opencore-093-sonoma-14-beta/?_fromLogin=1

Just look your intel UHD and change your own DDST or SSDT and serial SMBIOS.

Change Kexts what you need. Try this first.

My boot-args

This one works amazingly well, Drop Copy can't handle large files but local send is pretty amazing. In case we can't get the WiFi to work in Sonoma this one can replace AirDrop!

Awesome my friend, im try used LocalSend but no success

For the AirDrop problems, there is an alternative that is not quite as convenient, but it also works well for people who absolutely need it.

It's called Drop Copy

Thanks Alfredo I will try use it!!

- Sonoma 1a versão beta lança oficialmente a 7a geração. Plataformas Kaby Lake (além das mais antigas, é claro), mas, por enquanto, mantém os drivers gráficos KBL. Por quê? Simples: porque é necessário suportar gráficos Amber Lake UHD617 do MBA8,1.

- 2018 Mac mini8,1 -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
- 2018/2019 MacBookAir8,x -> BCM4355 (pci14e4,43dc)
- 2020 MacBookAir9,1 -> BCM4377b (pci14e4,4488)
- 2018/2019 MacBookPro15,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
- 2019/2020 MacBookPro16,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
- 2019 iMac19,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
- 2020 iMac20,x -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)
- 2017 iMacPro1,1 -> BCM4355 (pci14e4,43dc)
- 2019 MacPro7,1 -> BCM4364 (pci14e4,4464)

Faça suas próprias considerações

The information is very useful, in my MBA I have one of them, and apparently all of them are soldered on mobo?

I believe that Chinese manufacturers do not forgive a lot of time and will make others, compatible, soon.

You need to have it installed on the devices that you want to transfer files between them, then add a file to transfer then select the destination as shown in the list.

Select Send on the computer you want to send the file from and you'll see the list of nearby devices that can receive the file
