Hello everyone,

I recently installed the OpenCore version along with BigSUr. didn't have any hiccups, thanks to the wonderful OpenCore install guide and this forum. Post Install i had audio issues, i.e. the audio didnt work. (the device didnt show up). from then it was a tough day looking at 100s of solutions and not understanding a thing. it seemed everyone had a different method on how to do things, and not understanding the details meant there wasnt much gained in terms of knowledge.

But what i did learn should benefit some users and will post details next inside appropriate topic once my posting ability is enabled.

thanks.

thanks @Slice , managed to get it working. in brief, i have understood that it was an IRQ conflict.

The IRQ 16 was required by audio device, but was occupied by HPET (before patch applied)  and i guess HPET was using IRQ 16 because it has got some fixed IRQ numbers that can be used in some order, and in this scenario, when it didnt get to use IRQ 8 (was used by some other process, i think the RTC), it fallback to using IRQ 16.

So after the patch, the IRQ 8 is released by RTC?, which then is taken up by HPET and that leaves IRQ 16 free for audio.

So i am wondering if its all down to this 1 IRQ (8), why the patch is applied for 0,8,11. and what harm are we doing by making unnecessary changes to the system?
