inusebyanothermember
Yet, another problem! Hello, I'm having a problem where macos recovery cannot find the hard drive. However, the hard drive works. I don't have "Configure SATA as" option in my bios. My OS: El Capitan. Thanks.

Slice
I had an experience with ASUS P5B and successfully installed ElCapitan there. So no hardware problem expected. See your mistake.

Guest ricoc90
According to your motherboard's manual it has the ICH8 and as far as I know ICH8 has no support for AHCI. Only ICH8R, ICH8M and ICH8M-E support AHCI but I might be wrong. If you know the device ID of your controller then you might be able to inject it into AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext to allow El Capitan to boot from IDE (assuming that method still works in El Capitan, it's been awhile...) To get your controller's Device ID, you could boot into Windows (if installed), open up device manager, right click your IDE/ATA Controller and go to properties. Select details and then hardware IDs. The SATA was good. The LAN was good. The user was good. The manual states it is a ICH8, which is Intel 82801HB and according to the AHCI specs that chipset has no support. Only the 82801HBM (ICH8M) or the 82801HEM (ICH8M-E) are supported: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005642/technologies.html I believe some vendors added AHCI support on their own, which Asus seems to have done with their P5B-VM board. That board supports RAID which auto-enables AHCI on the controller. However, OP has the P5B-VM SE which lacks RAID functionality as well Edited June 27, 2022 by ricoc90
