Can I use the IO CREST SI-PEX40059 card (Marvell chipset 88SE9120) to connect an internal DVD drive to its SATA port on my hack?  An ASM1061 chipset controller card did not work as apparently this card does not recognize ATAPI commands. Any advice ?

If your DVD is connect to the SATA port on the ASM1061 with that card its work We have also the  4 Channel 6-Port SATA 6Gb/S PCIe RAID Host Card Works great Monterey and Big Sur

See DVDRAM GS40N connect to the SATA on the Vantec card

I am using the SY-PEX40039 card you mentioned.  The eject button does not work.  Roxio Toast Titanium crashes on start-up.  Burn application causes the system to freeze after a DVD is inserted in the drive.  I believe this

is a know problem with this storage controller card.  I was wondering if anyone has success with a Marvell chipset card.

I dont have any issue with that card on my DVD the eject Button works good

you have to copy on desktop /Sytem/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/ Eject.menue

And double clic to see the Eject.menue on the bar

What is the DVD Writer?

the DVD writer is an  LG HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GU90N drive.  The eject button appears in the menu bar but doesn't open the drive.  The DVD drive works in Windows 10 on this computer.

I no longer have SY-PEX40039 it to test it, I had it a long time ago and I think it worked well in Yosemite unless I got the wrong card, I had so many and currently I have three working well

Would the IO CREST SI-PEX40059  card with a Marvell 88SE9120 work ? https://www.amazon.com/IO-Crest-SI-PEX40059-6Gbps-ATA133/dp/B00BI4Z4H6    I am hoping the Marvell chipset can recognize the ATAPI commands from my internal DVD drive.

Dont know never see that card ?
