So far everything is fine with Beta 6 except

• No Safari 4K youtube

• Bitmovin DRM doesn't work

YouTube 4k on Safari works fine in here. No clue what Bitmovin is, but DRM is broken anywhere* since Lilu does not support user land patching yet.

[Edit]

* DRM works for SMBIOS systems with no iGPU (such as the iMacPro), but then you have a trade off from other things that may or may not work, like sleep/wake, related to certain CPU features.

I saw a review video in youtube about beta 6 and it mention that he have a bug with Youtube 4k with MBP as well . So i guess I'm not alone

I have no problem with DRM content or 4k in Safari both working perfect as before, but you are correct, there seem to be a problem with these two on MBP models both hacks and real Macs.

At this time, I'm using the same method (USB Installer) with Beta OpenCore 0.6.1. Do you update all your kexts, specially AppleALC.

@Matgen84, are you fix that issue? maybe you can try a very useful program Called SWUSwitcher. Its nice to enroll our systems.  You can choose what you want, and type "Set". Ok and enjoy it...:D Im sure that is not will be a Big "Issue"...

Hi @Alex HQuest,

It's fine but today I'm at work and in my Mac mini 2018 the update broke the type of keyboard, and surprise surprise, my brightness slider is greyed out like in my hack at home... weird again...

If Apple wants that function to work only in laptops why include it in desktops? ...

It must be a bug, I'm sure...

In my dock and meu bar I don't have that as you can see in the photo below...

I downloaded the BS beta 6 full installer and installed in a spare SSD. After rebooting various times as usual, the setup wizard is hanging at Remote Management (retrieving configuration settings). This was not happening in previous BS betas. Is this something that anyone here has experienced? If yes, how it would take to pass this stage?

The brightness slider doesn't work on my Z68 either. But then, there's also no brightness slider in the Display preference pane.

The Control Center options say that Display settings are always visible and can't be removed, so I guess it's a bug/feature with desktops.

Menu Bar Clock is broken in Beta 6 or is it me only?

Noticed System Preferences/Date & Time/Menu Bar Clock settings are greyed out/inaccessible in Beta6, like the very early betas previously :thumbsdown_anim:.

Otherwise uneventful update on my Skylake NUC6i5SYH after downloading InstallAssistant.pkg from Apple Software Catalog --> upgrade by directly running the full installer app in Beta5...

On my unsupported 2012 Macmini6,2 (IvyBridge), used @Asentientbot's Hax3 to bypass Installer HW checks & launch Install macOS Big Sur Beta.app.  Clean install to ext USB HD, resulting in unsealed Big_Sur volume (accessible from older macOS) with APFS snapshot intact.  Booted to Recovery/Installer USB to reinstall old IO80211Family.kext from High Sierra, rebuild caches, create new bootable (blessed) snapshot ---> working wifi

There is someone who has succeeded to fix WiFi Broadcom BCM43225 with OpenCore on Big Sur.

Try replacing /S/L/E/IO80211Family.kext with older High Sierra version by booting into Big_Sur Installer USB or Recovery.  Method in this post does not require deleting APFS snapshots.  Check Airport kexts loading with kextstat in terminal eg

kextstat | grep AirPort

Please post the latest kexts update , and how can I use ocvalidate ?

Thank you

Latest OC OpenCore-0.6.1-DEBUG commit 6df9424 which fixes issues in 11.0 kext injection and patching.

Also Acidanthera Kexts (Lilu, WEG, VirtualSMC, AppleALC) compiled today :).

Open Finder and Terminal.  Drag and drop ocvalidate into Terminal from Finder window, then drag and drop your config.plist from Finder to Terminal window eg

fusion71au@fusion71aus-iMac ~ % /Users/fusion71au/Downloads/OpenCore-0.6.1-DEBUG/Utilities/ocvalidate/ocvalidate /Volumes/EFI/EFI/OC/config.plist
Done checking /Volumes/EFI/EFI/OC/config.plist in 4 ms

I noticed something interesting about Big Sur I've not seen mention anywhere. Not sure how much this would impact development of tools for our unsupported hardware - likely not much, but this can give some insight and/or intel going forward.

Quote

For new installations on macOS 11 (Big Sur), (Cisco) AnyConnect uses a system extension, as opposed to the kernel extension used in previous AnyConnect versions. Prior AnyConnect versions may still work on macOS 11, but only on MDM-managed devices, since an MDM-based approval of the AnyConnect kernel extension is required starting with macOS 11.
