yup without the vsmcgen=1 the installer won't load, once I added the vsmcgen=1 bootfalg I was able to boot into the installer and now it's in progress.

1.  Make sure you are running the latest OC 0.6.0, latest Lilu, WEG, VirtualSMC kexts, also set vsmcgen=1 in boot args as recommended by @PropoFlexWX4

2.  Download InstallAssistant.pkg from Apple's software catalog and run it ---> will extract Install macOS Big Sur Beta.app (12.92GB size!) to /Applications

3.  Directly ran the Big_Sur Installer app from my Catalina volume, then proceeded through a total of 4 reboots and three installation phases shown in spoiler below...

Reboot to macOS Installer @OC GUI ---> Phase2 extracts the main OS payload onto the system volume, Apple installation progress bar starts, estimated time approx 29 minutes...

Reboot to Preboot @OC GUI ---> Phase3 starts ramdisk installer, ramrod creates firmlinks and Recovery Partition and also executes apfs_sealvolume.  In verbose mode, see message "Forcing CS_RUNTIME for entitlement: com.apple.rootless.restricted-block-devices" ---> this takes a while to complete...

Reboot to Preboot @OC GUI ---> Phase3 sealing system volume finalized
Final reboot to Preboot @OC GUI ---> Install Assistant guides you through process of setting up new user.

Extra Notes

• SystemVersion.plist in /S/L/CoreServices shows macOS version 11.0 but the one in Preboot shows 10.16
• Menu Bar Clock options are finally accessible again in System Preferences/Date & Time .
• Easiest way to replace/install kexts is from Recovery or booting to your Big_Sur Installer USB.  In the spoiler below, I replaced IO80211Family.kext with an older version from High Sierra ---> enabled wifi on my 2012 MacMini6,2.  Ensure authenticated-root SIP is disabled, mount Big_Sur volume as read-write, replace /S/L/E/IO80211Family.kext with older version, repair permissions and rebuild caches with kmutil, then copy these cache files with kcditto, bless and create snapshot...

One of the (many) things that have been fixed with Beta 3 is the delay in showing the Sound menu (probably WiFi, as well) and other items in the menubar.  Cool!

I used all of the i2c kexts that are in that zip file.  I haven't figured out which is the exact kext that made it work.  I just know that one of those did and none of them prevented me from booting or operating my trackpad or any other feature.  BTW, I have since installed beta 3 on an internal hard drive and have full trackpad function.  Everything was working pretty well until I installed iStat menus.  After that, I couldn't open Safari so I rebooted and, upon reboot, none of the Clover kexts would load so I'm stuck once again due to lack of kext injection.  I will take another look tomorrow.

For as far as I can see, both.

 

If you haven't reset your NVRAM you might be able to boot even without that param. But as soon as you reset NVRAM, you'll get stuck at Apple logo.

I installed the VoodooI2C kexts -- VoodooI2C.zip

 

I have been having problems with my trackpad in Big Sur so I thought I would try the I2C kexts to see if that would help.  It didn't help my trackpad but it sure found my internal drives.  Interestingly, they are detected in disk utility as external drives.  Nonetheless, they are finally there.  Hope this works for the rest of you.

 

Putting the latest voodooi2c.kext in the kexts folder in my OC config worked for me too. Now i can see my internal drives in the installer. Thanks for the good work. I only put voodooi2c.kext. It did not worked when i included satellite kexts.

How long did you wait at the "stuck" part?

Depending on your hardware it may take a while.....not that we know your hardware as you have not added it to your signature.

The sure way to ensure Big Sur install success using your Catalina OC EFI is using VMWare Fusion. I have tried all other boot options with no success, but with VM it works like a charm. Catalina OC will boot Big Sur. At first I thought that the problem was with my GT 630 graphics guard. Turns out it is fully supported OOB with full acceleration.

Hello @Partime I decided to completely erase the BS beta 2 install because it was very unstable and started installing BS beta 3 compiling and installing latest OC and kexts and adding vsmcgen=1 (cleared nvram as well). I’m getting stuck at the same point:

Did you finally finish installing? Did you fix something in OC to get it done.
