PREAMBLE - BEFORE YOU START

Here detailed, is all the  steps towards building a successful and stable Aorus Pro Z390 Hackintosh, if you are a first time Hackintosher, this guide will have you quickly up and running with the Aorus Pro Z390 Hackintosh. To rule out potential problems from the go,

only have the disc that you plan to install macOS Catalina connected to the Aorus Pro, disconnect any other Windows / Linux or data drives, external drives from your Aorus Pro. Windows / Linux and data drives can be connected after successful installation of macOS Catalina

If you have more than 16 GB of memory, then first install macOS Catalina with only 16GB or RAM installed, you can later add any additional memory. Install memory modules in slots DDR4_A1  and DDR4_B1 .

This build has a recommended Wi-Fi combo PCI-e card installed in slot PCIEX1_3 with its 9 pin USB cable attached to motherboard header F_USB2.  ( ensure WiFi card is seated properly in PCIe slot and cable is firmly attached to WiFi card and motherboard header F_USB2 )

If using the Corsair H100i v2 AIO cooler with USB cable connected to motherboard header F_USB1, you will need to enable hot-patch ( explained in guide ) in config.plist for working sleep, wake from sleep will only work by pressing Power Button.

Install macOS Catalina on its own physical drive, so do not try and install macOS Catalina onto a free partition on a disc that contains Windows.

Remove any Thunderbolt cards, Thunderbolt card can be reinserted after installation.  Double check your BIOS settings are the same as this guide.

Following are unsupported / problematic

• Intel Optane ( if you have this, remove it before installation of macOS Catalina )

 XFX Radeon RX 580

• NVIDIA GTX / RTX not supported in macOS Catalina

Q - WILL THIS GUIDE WORK WITH MY NON AORUS Z390 PRO MOTHERBOARD ?

A - No

Q - I notice you have the Aorus Pro Z390 version, will this guide work with Aorus Pro Z390 WiFi version ?

A - Possibly.

PART 3 – Create a bootable macOS Catalina USB Installer

See  ( Video below )

 Insert USB drive

 Launch /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility

Disk Utility  View  Show All Devices

On Left-hand panel  External (Identify your USB device in left hand panel)

Click and highlight your USB device in the left-hand panel.

 Click erase button.

 Name: USB

Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled )

 Scheme: GUID Partition Map

 Click Erase button.

Place the downloaded MacOS Catalina app into Applications folder.

 Open Terminal copy and paste:

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Catalina.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/USB --nointeraction && say macOS Catalina Drive Created

 Enter

 Download latest EFI from AudioGod

• Using ESP Mounter Pro, mount the hidden EFI partition on the macOS USB Installer

• Copy and paste EFI the contents form inside AudioGod's Z390 Pro DSDT EFI

PART 4 – INSTALL MAC OS CATALINA ON INTERNAL DRIVE

INSTALL NOTE

ENSURE BIOS: Above 4G Decoding is set to Disabled

Please be patient during all stages during install, so when install gets to 2 or 3 mins remaining then it may take extra time AND be ready to boot from the macOS Catalina USB Installer by pressing keyboard F12 when install initiates restarts.

INSERT USB INSTALLER INTO THE USB 2.0 PORT  or USB 3.0 PORT

Here is a walkthrough of the full process using the macOS Catalina USB Installer on the Aorus Z390 Pro.

macOS Catalina is now installed, but it can only boot at this moment thanks to FakeSMC and Clover on the macOS Catalina USB installer.

1878378092_Screenshot2019-10-16at14_45_37.thumb.png.9638ba9c114c11ba6e08da217a52b2a0.png

PART 5 – MAKE AORUS Z390 PRO INTERNAL DRIVE BOOTABLE

Make Internal macOS Catalina system drive bootable ( Video below )

So far, the Aorus Pro can only boot the internal system drive with the aid of the macOS Catalina USB Installer.

To boot from the internal system drive without the installer:

  • Download and install Clover without the RC Scripts.

  • Copy the EFI folder from inside Z390 Pro DSDT EFI.zip  folder and paste it inside the the System Drive EFI partition ( you can delete nvram.plist ).

PostEFI-to-SystemEFI.thumb.png.b36999c0aaec46f3703782aeba8f5a9b.png

Remove macOS Catalina installer and shut down and restart.

Aorus Hackintosh should now be able to boot to macOS Catalina.

PART 6 – ENABLE IMESSAGES & FACETIME

Possibly Clover Configurator now automatically populates correct values for working iMessages when you select an SMBIOS.

1450569214_Screenshot2019-08-01at10_23_36.thumb.png.75e4985553e858b20f2e9343c77b32bc.png

After selecting SMBIOS, example iMac Pro 1,1 ( image above ) then go to Apple and ensure you have the "serial number is not valid " message. Done!

If you still have problems connecting to iMessage, test and ensure that AirDrop is working, then follow instructions inside spoiler.

Configure Config.plist for iMessages. ( Video below )

Spoiler

SMBIOS = iMac Pro 1,1 or if using Intel only then choose iMac 18,1

Rt Variables —> ROM —> is your MAC address (delete colons from Mac address)

MLB field =  Enter serial number generated and append 5 random characters

SmUUID = in Terminal run command “uuidgen” and copy it to SmUUID field

Board Serial is same as MLB field.

 Clover Configurator —>  Save

PART 7 – ENABLE TRIM for Solid State Flash Drives

Open Terminal and enter the following command:

sudo trimforce enable

USB PORTS INFO –  USB PORTS MAP

SLEEP  – Resolving Instant Wake ( Corsair H100i v2 AIO )

Spoiler

Resolve Instant Wake From Sleep caused by the Corsair H100i V2 AIO Cooler

To enable wake using mouse and keyboard the Corsair H100i v2 USB cable must be disconnected from motherboard header F_USB1

If you want to keep the Corsair H100i v2 USB cable connected then enable the patch in config.plist, instruction below.

Hackintosh will then sleep, but can only wake using power button.

IF USING CORSAIR H100i v2, OR IF YOU HAVE INSTANT WAKE FROM SLEEP PROBLEM

THEN

ENABLE PATCH --> XPRW change Method(GPRW...

and download --> SSDT-GPRW.aml and place inside EFI/Clover/ACPI/Patched

Hello Glasgood, thanks for this guide. If I have hackintosh with last macOS Mojave, maybe there is a quick way to update the system? Or need to do everything as described in the guide, step by step? Thanks.

  • 3 weeks later...

This is the most drama-free install I've ever done, though there's a tiny lingering issue with iMessage.  It's the best guide and set of files ever, thanks so much.  It took 25 minutes from initial installer boot to be fully booted into Catalina.  Copied in the EFI folder, restored my Time Machine backup, and I was good to go.  Everything else is working perfectly.

iMessage seems to not be sending, although it can receive.  Weird.  I will look into some of the iMessage help files later.  If someone has a specific idea, I'd appreciate it.

Hello, thanks Glasgood for the guide, I think I will be preparing my second hackintosh using your suggestions.

Sorry to ask a probably noob question, but I have not be able to find the answer.

Is the build going to work if I do not install any wifi card? I plan to use ethernet connection so adding wifi would not be useful.

I have read many comments and signatures, it appears a lot of people also don't use the wifi card, but nobody has stated it clearly as far as I understand.

So I am here to ask for your help.

Thanks a lot!

Worked with GB Z390M Gaming + 9600K + Vega64LE too. The installation went smoothly, LAN and sound worked just after the final reboot. Haven't checked USB and other stuff yet, but it was the easiest hackintosh installation ever

Hi,

Can someone share the updated EFI folder of their working builds for macOS Catalina I have the same configs just that I don't have any dedicated GPU and wanted to use the built-in Intel Graphics. I don't have much knowledge, It would really very helpful if someone can share their EFI with Intel Graphics working and with BIOS F11.

Thanks a lot.

Edited by WasteDolphine

First off thanks for this guide, the one i followed from another site worked initially but then all sorts of issues set in. Did a fresh install using this guide and the recommended efi folder and never seen the system run so good. Sleep works now and no more black screen upon waking with the RX580.

@slickrasta It does not really matter to be fair if you are installing on seperate drives, at a worst case scenario if Windows manages to mess up your OSX efi you can just boot off the USB installer you created for OSX, mount your OSX drives efi and recopy the folders across. If you do install Windows 2nd worth going back into the bios as normally Windows boot manager sets itself as first boot device, so you will need to switch that back to the OSX clover drive

I have the Gigabyte Z390 M Gaming edition and a i7 9700K installed without external GPU. The iGPU (internal) will it work normally with hardware acceleration for h264/h265? Also can you link aguide to duyal boot with Windows 10 please?

Hi

You've a special Topic for Z390 M Gaming with tutorial.

I have a Z390 M Gamign with i5-9600K and the RX590 GPU. I'm not able to get in the installation menue, although ohters had success with the exactly same hardware.

Is there someone who wants to share one's EFI and the Bios settings? Thanks

Take a look to my post (December, 5): there is a specific topic for Z390 M Gaming. Some users can help you.

This guide is for Aorus Pro or Master.

Hello,

I successfully installed my Hackintosh following your guide.

It was extremely easy, thank you very much for your work.

(Actually, it was harder to install Windows than Mac OS...)

Everything is working except that I have instant wake up problems.

As soon as the computer goes into sleep, it wakes up. I have a Corsair H115i (not the H100i).

I tried with an without the usb connection but both gives the same result, every 15mn, it goes to sleep and wakes up immediately:

2019-12-20 19:00:17 +0100 Wake                Wake from Normal Sleep [CDNVA] : due to XHC/ Using AC (Charge:0%) 972 secs

2019-12-20 19:16:42 +0100 Wake                Wake from Normal Sleep [CDNVA] : due to XHC/ Using AC (Charge:0%) 973 secs

2019-12-20 19:33:11 +0100 Wake                Wake from Normal Sleep [CDNVA] : due to XHC/ Using AC (Charge:0%) 972 secs

I wanted to try the patch, but I don't see the line "XPRW change Method" in the list of patches.

1) Should I add it manually with the same hex addresses ?

2) Will it work with H115i ?

Another strange behaviour, from time to time, the mouse lags (magic mouse, bluetooth), it's not that dramatic but noticable.

Thanks again,

Benjamin

you can try removing AirPortFixup.kext from the kext folder from within your Clover EFI, Restart the system and see if that helps with your time to time lag and for the H115i I would personally just remove the AIOs USB connection from the board (while powered down) and that will fix sleep.
It’s not used or needed for MacOS anyway. :thumbsup_anim:

Is there a way to disable the RX570 in Catalina? I think its scoring benchmarks from the RX570 instead of the 5700XT. I'm running a triple boot with Win10, Mojave, and Catalina. Of course the RX570 is for Mojave that's why it's in there.

Thanks, I will try removing the AirPortFixup.kext

Concerning the AIO, unfortunately, I already tried without and without the USB connection.

Both give exactly the same problem.

The logs show that after 15mn it goes to sleep and wakes up immediately.

Ok welll that means something else is causing the system to wake as all you need to do too fix the aio problem is what I said and that should 100% resolve it.

in that case remove all your usb devices and try sleep again and then if it works reconnect a device at a time until you find the problem device.

Its can work with z390 aorus ultra?

No not really, the dsdt and ssdt are completely wrong.

You need to get your own EFI and dsdt made up buddy.

il pin a link for you where you can request a DSDT and they will help you create a new EFI for it.

Sounds to me like your using the incorrect EFI Buddy

try again using this one.

MSR Unlocked for Z390 Pro (not master that’s a different motherboard)

Z390 Pro - MSR Unlocked

that should work perfectly for you.

goto my thread and follow the steps carefully and use the bios settings from there too.

Let me know how you get on via my thread. :)
