clover chameleon double boot trick

rather by accident i recently discovered a little trick.

i have 2 hard drives. let's call them A and B. on A i have and old chameleon and 2 partitions: 10.8.5 and 10.6.8. the kernels of both are modified. i basically hardcoded them to a specific cpu model.
on B i have a more recent clover, 10.6.8 with a 32bit kernel and 10.12.6.

i'm currently trying to run all of them on a coffee lake. except for 10.12 however i had no luck with the older ones despite using a matching smbios. and this is where that trick comes in:
if i boot clover in uefi mode, select the 10.6.8 partition, hit enter, wait for a second and then hit the left arrow key, it doesn't boot but instead jumps to the chameleon on disk A. now the cracker is, if i continue from there, both 10.6.8 and 10.8.5 boot just fine.

if anyone can shed some light on the whys and hows i'd be all ears. if not this method might still be nice to know for some.
