That's good point (However I am not using the Evo Plus for Mac only for Windows10) my Hacki is on 840 Evo SSD, I have now updated to latest Firmware for my M.2 970 Evo Plus.

Will test and report after a while.

Even without macOS being installed on the Evo Plus drive, macOS will still be trying to mount the Windows partitions on start up, so possibly causing the problem. Hopefully your testing and firmware update turns good.

@glasgood, thank you so much for putting this guide together, got me up and running with a great build! I had a couple followup questions that I'm wondering if you know how to tackle or if I needed to make any modifications to the standard setup you provided:

1. I'm running an RX560 card instead of an RX580, and I'm also running it in PCI slot 2 instead of slot 1 (more on that in a second). Everything seems to be running fine though, so I'm not sure if I need to make any changes to the SSDT or clover config to account for this?

2. I'm running the RX560 in slot 2 because I'm also using an Nvidia 1070 in slot 1 for Windows. I've read you can disable the Nvidia card in macos using a custom SSDT. Have you run across how to do this or anyone else doing this on this build?

Thanks again for all your work on this!

I only have one GPU in use on my Aurus Pro, so don't have any sound advice to offer.  If your hackintosh is running without problems then I don't think SSDT would be required. @larabee advise is spot on, larabee is using Vega 56 + a nv 2070 for gamin

and has not encountered any problems.  But if you have problem, you could try creating BIOS profiles.  There is an SSDT available for the popular ( excellent ) Gigabyte Designare guide on the net that disables GPU in slot 2, it most likely will work with Aorus Pro.

Hey,

Thank you for you guide ! It was very helpful for me. I just have an issue : I don't have a USB after sleep. The USB stick is eject when I wake my hack up.

EDIT : Only with USB sticks whatever the ports it is plugged. But with external HDD or TB3, it's working fine after sleep.

If you have any idea.

Thank you

Hello @Delecta

If build is Aorus Pro Z390 and you have SMBIOS for iMac 19,1 then replace USBInjextAll.kext with ==> USBPorts.kext.zip  and remove SSDT-UIAC, SSDT-USBX.

Hello @Glasgood,

I am actually in 18.3 and I have success to work my 2 ports TB3 in hotplug ! But I will try your kext and let you know.

Thank you very much !

Update the model within info.plist in USBPorts.kext to reflect 18,3

Thanks, I've taken @larabee's advice and swtiched the RX560 to slot 1. I was initially worried about a performance difference using the x16 vs x8 lane, but that turns out to not really matter. In fact, both cards are running at x8 anyways regardless of what slot they are in.

I did track down the SSDT patch to disable GPU in slot 2 for Designare and that appears to be working (no nvidia cards showing up anywhere in system report).

The one issue I've noticed is that there is a 30 second delay in the boot between the verbose log finishing and the apple logo showing up. After the verbose log finishes scrolling and the purple line artifacts appear at the top of the page, the screen goes dark (still has signal) for 30 seconds. After that, the apple logo pops up and the OS finishes loading to desktop. Not sure if that 30 second delay is because of having that nVidia card in there or something else. I may try to pull the nvidia card and see if that gets rid of the delay.

@larabee do you do anything to disable the nvidia card in macos or just ignore it?

The one issue I've noticed is that there is a 30 second delay in the boot between the verbose log finishing and the apple logo showing up.

I figured out the cause of this delay in booting. It was caused by the ig-platform-id I was using for i7-9700k. I used the second set of values below because I have a 9700k, but when I revert back to the original ig-platform-id (AAPL,ig-platform-id 0300923E) the boot doesn't have the delay anymore. So even if you have an i7-9700k, it looks like you want to use the original ig-platform-id value (as specified in guide for the 8700).

Quote

Add your ig-platform-id and your device-id :

If CPU is i7-8700 / i7-8700K or i5-8600K / i5-8400 or i5-9600

Add:

device-id 923E0000

Add:

AAPL,ig-platform-id 0300923E

If CPU is i9-9900 i9-9900K or i7-9700 / i7-9700K or i5-9600K

Add:

device-id 983E0000

Add:

AAPL,ig-platform-id 0300983E

Hi,

Sometimes when making specific changes within Clover, those changes can trigger a delay between the verbose log and the Apple logo screen,  but that delay usually only happens on the first boot after making changes in Clover.  Subsequent reboots are then normal.

Can you try reverting back to your previous ig-platform-id. Then reboot, login to macOS and then shutdown and restart and see if delay persists.

I'm also thinking that you will have better performance, Final Cut Pro ( if you use it ) and maybe in other compute areas when using proper ig-platform-id.

:)

Hello,

I tried your kext but it doesn't work

But now this is not my main issue. My hack stuck at "start uncompressed kernelcache" only when I've got my 2nd SSD in Exfat. I try ti add Fat drivers in Drivers64UEFI. But it doesn't work.

Anyone have an idea ?

Thank you

Hello again @glasgood !

So this is a really weird issue : I have got this "start uncompressed kernelcache" when I have a a second SSD plugged-in in Exfat or in APFS but not in HFS+. But not with an USB stick in Exfat. And what is really weird it's that I can be able to boot only when I put the Intel Graphics in Auto or in Disable in the BIOS or plug any USB stick. Here is my EFI, I'm on 18.3 to be able to have the hotplug in TB3.

Hi,

Just looking at your EFI, it is one on the older EFI from the guide. Also nothing is injected in Devices Properties in your config.plist, you have no SSDT-UIAC.aml and are using USBInjectAll.kext with no boot args to include or exclude. Please use the latest EFI folder from guide.  Then transfer your SSDT's for Thunderbolt over to most recent EFI from guide.

@glasgood thanks for getting back to me. I bought the exact board like yours and swap out my old board couple weeks ago, that's why I ask to see if you have anything like that. If I continue to have the issue, I will swap motherboard or my RAM to see if it's actually a hardware problem.

@AudioGod With AMD Vega, the card regulate the voltage through a thing called Soft Power Play Table. You can changed the voltage and fan speed using an app called VGTAB It can create a Kext for you to install that regulate the fan speed / power at needed. THen you can inject those into config.plist device properties so the kext won't interfere with liliu and whatevergreen. I attached my config.plist here , you can copy paste that settings into yours and test it out.

config.plist

Hi, first of all, amazing job to this guide!! My hardware is similar to glasgood but using an Asus Radeon RX Vega 56.

@larabee Are you still using VGTAB to manipulate voltage and fan speed? I heard Mojave 10.14.5 is doing a great job on that? link to post about VGTab (read the beginning)Can I use the same device properties as yours or they are dependent on the card manufacturer? If so how do you find the values to inject in the config.plist device properties?

Thanks

Damm i used your guide to start, and i works almost out of the box. Big thanks for all the work you put in :-)

I have only one thing that is not working 100% and that is my Gigabyte Radeon RX 580 GAMING 8GB.

I can't get hardware acceleration to work, videoproc shows Unavailable. Any tips for that??

And the 30 second delay at boot is there every time. I switched it back to 0300923E and it boots fast again. I also checked VideoProc, and it shows everything working and accelerated, so not sure what to make of this on the i7-9700k.
