semthex
I realize that the source for Leopard is not currently available, but I was talking about after the release (and currently with Tiger). After Leopard is released, the kernel source will be available (unless Apple changes their current policy), which will make hacking it easier. Sure but there is once again a new point: APSL changed, so hacking with sources will be illegal. Another point is I know/think there will be more protections in not open sourced stuff. bluedragon1971
Sure but there is once again a new point: APSL changed, so hacking with sources will be illegal. Well, when has that ever stopped people here LOL?
semthex
Well, when has that ever stopped people here LOL? Not yet but the change is new and ppl here have to care now too, look at me, I won't be able to do source patching and publish it anymore. This does not include that I can't write about how to do so (purely theroretical, you know ) but publishing patched sources/patches will be violating APSL. And people here will have to care too. The problems we will encounter with changed APSL are not clear yet but there will be much more in the future. But this is now off topic, back to Leo and the lawyers. :3_4_9:
cyclonefr
Blah ! Leopard will be cracked, even if it's illegal... Look at what some people can do with compiled binaries (Starforce, Securom, etc), so let's imagine what you can do with a source. If anyone there is affraid of not running ILLEGALY Leopard one day, then he is wrong. This will happen, because as Semthex said, everything is crackable, even though it takes some times. Even the best protections nowadays are defeated. Some smart move from Apple would be to include some WGA protection à la Microsoft, though they won't do it since they don't want everyone to say "Apple, you suck, you are like Microsoft !". See, Windows Vista remains for now uncracked, I mean, 10.4.8 really is cracked as Windows Vista has no REAL crack available yet (not speaking of workarounds...) Don't get me wrong, Vista will be cracked, but WGA is a pain in the ass for the end user.
semthex
Sure it will be no doubt about it, but as I said, at the moment there is a huge legal risk to tinker with Leo stuff in public, that's the point no more no less. Just the note about to be careful what to tell and what to publish.
bofors
As I recall, the same kind of thing was said a year ago about Tiger. Look how that turned out. Don't you think Apple knows that their OS will be cracked? Hell, they give us the tools to do it (Xcode and the kernel source)! I am sure Leopard will be cracked regardless of premature pirate-leaks, and that Apple nows it too. My point is: why help Apple at all. Until Leopord is finished no one really needs it. :pirate2: + :pirate2: = :pirate2: + =
nastyhome
Then we should put on a facade when talking about Leopard OSX86 cracking...maybe say everything the opposite (eg: we cannot crack Leopard - but go dl it in demoniod)
Colonel
As I always say, if it was made by man, it can be cracked by man...
solaar
As I always say, if it was made by man, it can be cracked by man... Well... yes but I would say... only if the incentive/effort ratio is high enough (and the funds too I suppose). Example: people who know Sky digital TV in EU might have heard of NDS Videoguard, Sky's encryption system. Since its introduction in the nineties hackers have been rather cracking their teeth on it than anything else. All the other encryption systems have been hacked at some point except for videoguard. But let's be 'positive' innit?
bxsci(macuser)
i personally believe that apple will include something to hack leopard inside the release. we must remember that apple was bult off of hackers and as much as they try to stop hacking of there system consiously, subconsiously they want us to hack the system bc it reminds them of themselves
murcielago585
I think we can all admit that we think this final release of leopard will be cracked, as it has been proven with previous and current versions of tiger. i don;t know if apple would benefit from having a crack released, but look at the bigger picture of this. most people who already own real macs and have access to the dev releases do not praise about it. as everyone knows, its in its beta stages, and definatily not ready to to be released to the public. i tried the first dev leak on a mac and i;d rather go back to tiger. It is still loaded with bugs and just plain pisses you off if you use it for regular use as a stable os. imagine the problems that would arise on all our hackintosh's if its still not mastered on the real thing. so just wait, who cares about apple and how they might find a way to make it more secure; apparently everyone believes that it will indeed be cracked when it is released. in my personal opinion, leopard is definately not worth it at this point. peace
snackole
Boo fricken hoo! I thought the whole point of this was to have fun and try different things.
