Hey guys - how are you holding up?

Because of a lot of free time and after abandoning the idea to get Catalina installed i tried to run Mojave on my beloved z820v2.

Everything went fine except power management.
I've used @WoodCabin 's EFI folders to install and later on run Mojave (14.6).

Here's a glimpse of what i get as soon as i put the patched AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext into S/L/E

I tried also @stinga11s kext patches for Mojave but still either PM's not working or KP.
Here's my EFI folder

Hello @Hervé!

Indeed you're right! This thread evolved from HS to Mojave and now Catalina for me and many other HP Z fans...

I've recently switched to OpenCore and I'd like to find the time to write a new tutorial, hopefully in the upcoming weeks. I'm studying hard on it! ^__^

Our friend @amadeusex is experiencing issues with his CPUs and we're trying to help... Maybe starting a new thread would be a wise choice.

I agree but the reality is that this thread has become a HP Z-users hangout and a lot of us come back here seeking and providing advice. 
Also a lot of us are getting notifications as soon as someone creates a new post. Not that much traffic on a new topic i guess.

I'd say that is a rebuild cache/permission problem. Add the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext patched in S/L/E is a very critical moment. It's essential you assure that you rebuild/repair correctly after that. Maybe mojave needs specifical commands to do that.

 

In my case, I had an error like that in the past (if my assumption is right). And I couldn't fix because reboot in single user (terminal mode) and apply the usual commands to repair cache, repair permissions never worked for me. My only solution was reinstall.

On my end i've managed to get PM working - I suspect an .efi file which when removed PM started to work.
I've tried to transfer the clover configuration to an existing Mojave installation but didn't succeed.

It works with a fresh install though. I even got PM working from the USB Installer.

Some people over at stinga11's thread about PM on HighSierra and Mojave mentioned that with an existing and working
SSDT no patch at all was needed to get PM to work in Mojave.

My EFI folder for z820 dual Xeon E52687v2 3.94 Bios

In order to not irritate the moderators i suggest to rename the thread (maybe HP z800 z600 etc Hackintosh general) and to move it to a new location ?!

I can rename the name of this thread. Icould rename and finish this one and the we could open a new one with a generic name for Z820. But we would need move last pages to not lose valuable info. We would need the help of some admin.

The performance drop might be a driver issue - who knows ...

A question about your config - Do you notice an "FAILED TO SEND STEPPER" error message at the end of the X86PlatformShim: messages while booting with the MacPro 7,1 symbios ?
I've tried the 7,1 Symbios at firsthand and noticed that error which goes away with the MacPro 6,1 symbios.

As far as i've researched so far it can be solved (i don't know if it should be solved though).Here's a suggestion from a post in a german hackintosh forum.

WOW !! Thank you so much AMADEUSEX !! I've been struggling with Hackintosh on the Z820 for the past few weekends and got nowhere. The attached EFI worked without any issue !! :) Maybe you should create a new thread  for the Z820 and Catalina :) It would be a lot easier to search on google :)

I'm glad i could help. Everything is based on @bilbo's work - he did a great job. In fact i wouldn't enjoy my z820 if it wasn't for bilbo's El-Capitan guide. 

Other than that - i've successfully created a clover configuration for Big Sur.

Feel free to give it a spin. (it does boot Catalina also)
Install Big Sur Clover 5126 

Don't forget to change VoodooTSCSync.kext if you don't have a 16-core/32 threads cpu configuration !

In my case the installer stops after the 1st reboot with the message: An error occurred applying the update.
I've downloaded the Install Mac OS BigSur at least 3 times from the app store, I've downloaded the Olarila vanilla-Image and i've also
downloaded the Big Sur InstallAssistant.pkg from the Apple server.

So far i've tried only the Olarila image directly from the USB - the other ones from a running system.

Opencore looks good but i ran into this issue (i guess my unicorn e5 2687w v2 is to blame).

Alright - here we go.

I've managed to get Big Sur running with clover.

Still though there is no way to install it with clover. As mentioned before i'm hitting a wall with OC (for now) and using this tutorial i was able to recover a VM machine image to an SSD.

How to install macOS Big Sur using Restore Method | Hackintosh | Step By Step Guide

Here is the final (for now) EFI folder to boot into Big Sur. Make sure to use the Preboot entry in clover !

So far everything (except Usb3) seems to be working - even both SATA controllers.

 

I've replaced VoodooTSCSync.kext with the new version so no need to replace/patch it anymore (i guess).

The nerd i am - After trying (!) to migrate my Catalina (admittedly for investigative purposes) installation the system won't boot.
I suspect a driver to be the reason. Most likely the one for my UAD DSP-Card.

Well there's nothing more joyful than an 1-2 hour long recovery procedure.

It doesn't matter though because it is still a very early stage for an OS - i mean it's still 11.0.1 so that's that.
I firmly believe that in a couple months (weeks even) there's going to be a lot of progress from the developer's (both clover and OC) side of things.

Big Sur looks good so far and our z-workstations seem to handle it very well.

Hi 

 

Maybe an NVram reset (F11 in clover before selecting the boot entry) could help.
You could also try to use VoodooTSCSync.kext (of course with the correct settings for your cpu-setup) instead of CpuTscSync.kext.

Other than that a Bios-update might be in order. I'm using the 3.94 if i'm not mistaken. That might help also and frankly is my best guess.

I myself need sometimes 2-3 boot attempts to get into Big Sur with panics at different stages. Sometimes at Pci configuration ends and sometimes at

AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement client ready.
