Hi

1 - I can't no more sign in to insanelymac forum since Mojave Beta 2/ Safari 12-----> error 404 when I want to sign

2 - Apple update appleAHCI kext form 329.50 to 329.200 ------> High Sierra's Hot-Plug patch work but slowly

3 - Sound effect: no more sound for empty trash since Beta 2

Any ideas, please

Thanks

As for the other issues...well, I don't use any hot-plug patch... So I don't know. And I didn't pay attention to the sound effect of empty trash. But...if it's removed, then it's been removed. Not sure what can you do about it. :)) Probably a bug, too.

Both. Slightly different behaviour, probably the same cause, but both. Quick Look displays an endless loading animation. Preview doesn't even open (application not responding).

And so far...looks like Crusher was right. It does open png. It doesn't open jpg. And also, once you opened the jpg, it won't open the pngs anymore until the next reboot.

Same thing is happening to me. As soon as you try to open .jpg it won't open .png until reboot. Actually, until you log off/on.

.mp4 works fine

Laptop/desktop? Which dedicated GPU?

By the way, mp4 works fine for me with Quicktime and VLC.

SkyLake desktop, iGPU+RX580 with and without DSDT

The thing is that the same issue appears to happen on Audio files as well. The only thing that works so far with QuickLook is the pictures!

Just did the test, no issue here. From SS below, front is Preview.app, the back one is QuickLook. Have you tried disabling metal support with NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext (test) and see the difference? (I forgot the bootarg, sorry).

#EDIT: Tested using Nvidia GeForce GT 520M (Fermi GF119), Discrete GPU.

#EDIT2: Bootarg "ngfxgl=1" to disable metal support (plus "-ngfxbeta).

Thank you very much! I don't know why but that wallpaper looks absolutely gorgeous with Dark Mode. :)

Now, for your question. No, I haven't tried NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext...but I guess it wouldn't hurt giving it a try.

However:

1. I thought that this kext only works with Nvidia driver. I'm not using one (not that there is one anyway). Nor do I need an Nvidia driver either, since the card is supported with Apple drivers.

2. If there was a Metal issue...which I'm not sure it is, would that affect only certain file types? :))) Cause that doesn't make much sense to me.

I mean, it needs Metal to open JPG, but it doesn't need it to open PNG? Cause PNGs work just fine.

No need.  I got them to load by installing them in L/E.  I guess Clover updates will take care of this in time.

Updated fine here, Bluetooth works fine without installing kexts to system.

This is very interesting... Particularly since other people with RX 580 don't seem to have this issue. But they do have "my" issue (lol, that sounded wrong). It's clearly not just mine. I'm sharing. I don't mind other people having it, too. :))) But anyway...something has to be different.

Are you using a "helper" card or something like that? Also, audio is analog or HDMI?

Funny thing is that if I use the Grab.app to open .png or .jpg file, it works just fine.

I'm not using a helper card, my RX 580 is set to primary and I only use iGPU for hardware Encoding Support for editing videos.

I'm using analog Audio but the HDMI audio option is also available.

About the audio and video issue that I mentioned they don't playback with QuickLooks only. Do the quick look open those type of files on your rig?

If you mean mp4s...I didn't try that. I only opened them with QuickTime and VLC. But...if you have a test one, I can try when I get home and let you know if it occurs with QuickLook.

Well the file itself really doesn't matter as long as it's MP4 or MP3. just try viewing a MP4 video or playing a mp3 with quick look and see if it loads, on my end the spinning loader never seems to know what it was going to do it just keeps on sipping and I think he/she just likes to spin until the end of time :D

It’s gotta be a woman. They love to spin until the end of time....or feet. Whichever comes (off) first.

Has anyone tried the new full installer? It ends up in a black screen on my SkyLake rig.
I just did a fresh install of beta 2 and I had no issues reaching the desktop. Still no Atheros40 for our WiFi card so I used the one from High Sierra 10.11.6 beta again. With and without old Nvidia drivers it's barely useable, screen tearing and laggy buts it's beta and Nvidia is yet to release drivers. I used the same config and EFI as High Sierra I just added -lilubetaall while installing and have the same flag set in custom entry in gui for when I boot into Mojave and can boot High Sierra without the -lilubetaall flag. I know this doesn't help much but our cpu and mainboard are the same so you can rule them out at least.

Is iGPU enable on your rig? can you give me some more details on your setup and configs? or kext that you are using.

iGPU is not enabled. Aside from graphics our setups are identical. I believe I am using NvidiaGraphicsFixUp.kext and the kext patch as well for black screen.
I'm using in EFI > Kexts > 10.14
AppleALC
AtherosE2200Ethernet
CodecCommander That was an old EFI i dont use this at the moment.

NvidiaGraphicsFixUp

I know this is far from being a reliable test result, but I tried the Quick Look/Preview thing on a GTX 950 with default Apple drivers. Yes, that also means no acceleration. But I wasn't interested in that. I was just curious if I can open jpgs. I also tried mp3 and mp4 with Quick Look.

Aaaand, the results are interesting:
1. The original wallpaper I uploaded before (jpg) still doesn't work. Same issue.

2. A jpg version of the png screenshot below DOES work (I guess you'll see the screenshots when the forum decides to upload them....).

3. mp3 and mp4 files work properly with Quick Look

@arsradu

The issue is fixed so far. Here's what I did:

The discreet GPU should be set as primary in BIOS and your displays should be connected to your discreet GPU

The iGD/iGPU/iGFX must be enabled in BIOS/UEFI as the secondary GPU.

  1. I removed the DSDT
  2. Reconfigured the config.plist to and removed some flags which weren't needed because of the DSDT
  3. added the InjectATI + Ornioco Framebuffer (I removed the Orinoco framebuffer because of some weird glitches but it might be useful for other AMD GPUs if you inject the correct framebuffer according to your GPU. No need to inject anything for nVidia GPUs unless your GPU needs it)
  4. Added the InjectIntel + ig-platform-id for my intel HD530 (for intel HD 530 I use the 0x19120001 ig-platform-id)
  5. Removed com.apple.finder.plist
  6. Removed com.apple.QuickLookDaemon.plist
  7. rebuild the kextcache and reset the nvram

Steps 5 to 7 might not be necessary I just did them anyway, if anyone succeeded to get quicklook working without those steps let me know so I can exclude those steps.

I will be testing the hell out of this system and see if I can get it to work with the DSDT as well.

Cheerio
