Your preboot.log indicates that Clover did it's job successfully and handed it over to boot.efi. If it stucks at '++++++' then it means that boot.efi cannot continue for some reason. Do you have apfs.efi in driversUEFI64 folder?

do you want try a different (and maybe not correct approach)?

:)

:thumbsup_anim:Success with my self-made USB-stick with iMac Pro board id in platforsmsupport.plist, the binary changes you suggested in boot.efi and complete EFI-folder and config.plist provided by my friend @fabiosun.

All this together made my rig booting into a black screen after loading up to installation.

Thank you guys you are the best.

I will check if I can get to the boot screen with my nvidia gtx 680 otherwise I will try with my RX vega 56.

I will report back.

You can also try at bootclover menu to press spacebare and put a fkag on nv_disable=1

I will do that and start up in VESA mode.

Thank's @fabiosun for your help with patches do I need in your config to be safe to boot do you think?

You can try with your first config.plist and if it hangs you can add msr program pikeralpha kernel patch without fakecpuid

I tried with my old config.plist and with the patch you've recommended above and no fakecpuid. That didn't work.  Your complete config.plist is working but I don't know what should be there and what should be taken away. Could you maybe take some stuff away?

Is your AptioMemoryFix.efi special in any way?

Another question. Is the MSR 0xE2 register patch on KGP:s Skylake guide universal? Do you think I can use it for unlocking the register on my mobo or should I stick to the TSCAdjustReset.kext?

gIOScreenLockState 3 is my problem now.

I tried NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext and nv_disable=1 without success.

Any advice?

Are you using NVidia now? If it's possible to you to install your Vega 56 back then do it. It works out of the box.

Yea I know it should but when I tested it just some minutes ago i've just get a black screen and after a while the fan blow up on full speed and stuck.

RadeonDeInit checked with and without WhatEverGreen doesn't matter only boot to black.

@obus

you have to have a little more patience and all will become easier

first advice let decide if you want to use Nvidia or amd

second:)

are you in installation or in post installation steps?

To answer to your question related to aptiomemoryfix, no. it is a regular version (maybe R15 or 16)

gIOScreenLockState 3 is my problem now.

I tried NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext and nv_disable=1 without success.

Instead about this..do not mix all infos you have found on guide you mention

As someone as told to you it is not a simple start and sometime it is not very handy to understand
Maybe it will useful when you can login in your system after first instal.

Your GTX 680 should be seen out of box also from OSX standard driver.

Now to answer also to your other question below:

Your complete config.plist is working but I don't know what should be there and what should be taken away. Could you maybe take some stuff away?

look at my attached picture

from clover boot menu press option and from ACPI section and also Binaries patching you can modify/verify some options you have in config.plist you are using, flagging or not some patches present in config.plist.

ie try to unflag kext patches brumbaer patches and only to delete fakecpuid 0x00040674

and see!

When you see Gioscreenlockstate if you are in installation step look on your optical mouse and see if led is on or not

if not change your usb and reboot

Ps

for now we have some chances that also on your xeon osx could start
Problem will be solved accordly if you do not do too much mixing or confusion

When you do a step on post your config and also kext you are using and till you do not see login page do not mix Nvidia and AMD stuff (IMHO)

PS

Also unlocking bios is unrelated to your actual problem

more likely it is an USB problem (always if you are in installation step )

@obus, any update?

I'd want to ask you a couple of questions after you got your system (or at least installer) running. :) It's related to NVRAM, see my post.

for the moment I'm stucked to black screen "windowServer Service only ran for 10 seconds......."

and I can't get into installation.

Tried with NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext and with nv_disable=1 without success.

I remember I hade this problem earlier with my Skylake cpu and z270 mobo but then I solved it by installing only with HD 530.

Any ideas?

PS. I've read your post and I will se, if I solve my installation problems, how my rig is working with AptioMemoryFix and hardware NVRAM.

Hi @fabiosun

I have to use my GTX 680 due to some fan problem with my RX vega 56 (still working but sent for RMA).

For the moment I boot to complete black screen. WITHOUT nv_disable=1 and NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext.

If I boot WITH nv_disable=1 and NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext get stucked with the text "windowServer Service only ran for 10 seconds......."

Tried to boot yesterday with my RX vega 56  (still working but sent for RMA) and I booted into black screen with that card to.

The led in my optical mouse is on so obviously it isn't a Kp.

There is a second internal graphics on my mobo, Aspeed VGA controller, could this be the culprit?

I can't se that VGA controller in bios so I don't know how to activate or disactivate.

Your monitor is connected to Nvidia or to internal VGA?

You should have a jumper to disconnect  onboard vga or maybe it is disconnected automatically when other gfx is connected?

Aspeed VGA controller

I'd rather disable it in BIOS and/or by jumper on your board.

Also it's still not clear what video card you're currently using. Again, to get your life much easier it's better to get rid of NVidia and proceed with AMD Vega.

And, may be ask Asus support for add MSR lock/unlock option in next BIOS release?

Please do if you have a proper contact in ASUS. I doubt it's possible via ordinary support.

Also it would be good to have APTIO problems fixed which require various AptioFixes.

I will try... Bat my English(use Google translator)

My build from signature with HW NVRAM is very stable with different versions of AptioMemoryFix, bat my another similar MB - MSI C236A Workstation(currently not use) without hardware NVRAM... bat this is another story...

Up and running after some days struggle. Everything seems to be working except my dual Intel I210-AT Nic:s.

If somebody have a solution for this I'd be very, very happy. Tried a lot of different kext with no avail.

Thank you @fabiosun for the absolute mandatory "PM" and "xcpm_program_msrs (c) Pike R. Alpha" kernel patch. This two patch paired with Broadwell FakeCpuid 0x040674 was the soloution for booting into the installer.

Thank you @jaraheel for the edited TSCAdjustReset.kext.

After that everything went smooth (OOB) with booth my GTX 680 and my RX Vega 56.

Next step will be to try patching my locked bios.

@joedm ru

you asked for some information earlier and I hope I can help you now.

Woohoo! Grats!

Could you please do the following:

  1. Ensure that you are using AptioMemoryFix.efi and no EmuVariable.
  2. Open terminal and issue a command: sudo nvram mytestvar=zzz
  3. Reboot
  4. Open terminal and issue a command: nvram mytestvar

Let me know about the results. Thanks.

Also please look what is the state of the "Above 4G decoding" option in your BIOS. It's in 'Boot' section.
