@Cass67 Thank for your reply. Yap it may caused by my PSU. Since my pc is not a whole original z820, I just brought every part of my z820 separately(motherboard, psu, cpu). Also I use another PSU instead of original hp Z820 PSU and my PSU is not in a good condition. But fine, the noise problem is not a very big deal.

Yah i don't think the noise is a problem, its just annoying .. there are a few posts i found on the HP site speaking about this and it seems HP themselves don't care about it too much and have an if it works OK then its not a problem kind of attitude towards the whine.  I Just wish it was a standard size PSU and id have it ripped out and replaced with a non HP one.  Its not even guaranteed if i buy a new one it will fix the problem either.. so I'm not doing that and for the most part using Linux as my day to day on this box.

I have seen similar noises from coils in Graphic cards too, I have experienced more coil whines in AMD cards than Nvidia. It's because the coils vibrate in high frequency and make some noise. You can locate this by moving scroll down and up while web browsing, if noise changes, then can be the Graphic card.

 

I have an AMD r9 285x that screams like a pig.

Agreed, in my case it's not the GPU causing this noise.

Agreed, in my case it's not the GPU causing this noise.

Interesting development here with this whining noise, its deffo coming from my PSU, but what seems to be the "cause" of the majority, if not all, of it is my mouse.  I have a Corsair M65 gaming mouse and when moving it around, moving windows, scrolling web pages etc, i get a whining noise... Spent the better part of a day trying to figure out how to disable c-states to remove the whine as from what i read this removes the problem, well masks it really.  But here is the fun part, when swapping the mouse out for an Apple one, the noise is gone... wtf!! Must have something to do with the frequency of the laser updating movement or something on the m65.  but for now on the Apple mouse its silent... 

EDIT -  Turns out its not perfectly silent.  Now the mouse noise is out the way im hearing the network traffic noise reported earlier.. This "appears" not to be coming from the PSU but from somewhere in the region of the rear ports. Pulled the 2nd cpu raiser out to get a good listen and it seems like this is it...  The coils nearby seem to have plastic/glue on them to stop vibration , maybe they need some more glue on .. i dunno for now... 

 I have tried a few things to remove the whine but its still there slightly.  Added a PCI network card, removed a pci sound card, moved the power cable out from a 4 way adapter to a direct plug into the wall.  Its improved somewhat but not fully gone ..

Thanks to MaLdOn, I could run Sierra on my Z620.

But I am stuck on PM configuration :(

My Z620 has 2x E5 2670 v1. I think they don't work at the max of their performance, and maybe you could help me.

I don't know how to patch DSDT correctly and what to do with SSDT neither.

Here is my Clover/ACPI/origin folder with all files I got when I pressed F4 in clover boot menu.

Also my Clover/kexts folder, my Clover/drivers64UEFI folder, and my config.plist

Have a look at Amadeusex files here on the El Cap thread.. he has the same cpu as you and some of the files worked for me on 2690 v1 cpu when i was struggling to complete the PM, i had DSDT / SSDT but i was missing the S/L/E part and some flags on the clover config ...

But as I really wish to learn "how to", could someone explain me how to patch dsdt, what is necessary, what is just useful, what is just cosmetic, what to put in S/L/E, etc? :)

I have a Z820 and the same E5 2670v1 dual cpus. I generated the power management according to this guide. I initially had problem with ssdtPRGen giving me errors, it works when i added "-target 0" flag to the command line, which forces the script to generating  for Sandy Bridge.

Only difference is I'm running an AMD RX480, I didn't have to do anything, since it works out of the box.

  

./ssdtPRGen.sh -p E5-2670 -target 0 -b Mac-F60DEB81FF30ACF6 -c 3 -x 1 -cpus 2 -l 32

Looks like you're using a REALLY old version of ssdtPRGen matey, my version is 21.5!

You can download it on your home folder by issuing the following command in a terminal: 


 
curl -o ~/ssdtPRGen.sh https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Piker-Alpha/ssdtPRGen.sh/Beta/ssdtPRGen.sh

Don't forget to make it executable after downloading: 

chmod +x ~/ssdtPRGen.sh

Looks like something's wrong with your home folder permissions oliveg...

Try this: 

rm -Rf /Users/xxxxx/Library/ssdtPRGen

then retry to launch ssdtPRGen.

Oliveg, steps to install are in ssdtPRGen website and in the guide:

delete any previous ssdtPRGen folder in your /user/library folder

In terminal, execute: 

curl -o ~/Library/ssdtPRGen.zip https://codeload.github.com/Piker-Alpha/ssdtPRGen.sh/zip/Beta
unzip -qu ~/Library/ssdtPRGen.zip -d ~/Library/
mv ~/Library/ssdtPRGen.sh-Beta ~/Library/ssdtPRGen
rm ~/Library/ssdtPRGen.zip

and then 

cd /Users/your-user/Library/ssdtPRGen
chmod +x ~/ssdtPRGen.sh

 

With this, you should have ssdtPRGen script appropriated installed and with the right permissions.

oliveg, the "No ACPI Processor declarations found in DSDT" error has been covered in this guide and in the el capitan's guide.

The funniest topic  :P  . It’s essentially same as in El Capitan. Now is a bit easier because current clover’s versions inject native SDDT ‘s names better than previous clover versions. This error is because old clover versions don't read the ssdt tables with the appropriate name.

You have two options... update your clover version, or maybe, not take risks , and use same version that I use for the guide.

Or deal with this error and follow the tip to fix from el capitan's guide. But I've just discovered that with the update of insanelymac forums version, the guide has been truncated and deleted :huh:.
In short, the tip is copy the content of the ssdt-1 into the dsdt and reboot. For further details, I'll try to recover the guide. Anyway I think the easier is just update your clover version.

I forgot it completely. Cpus non 26X0 , need an special fix into dsdt. I left empty this section because I think it should be more tested. I promise complete this section soon. Meanwhile, could you send me your original bios tables ? (boot with your clover-usb stick, press F4 in clover screen. shutdown, grab the usb stick, and in other computer, compress the /efi/clover/acpi/origin folder.

mmmm ... 4441 is newer than version I use .... :huh: .

 

Try this: extract your original bios tables: during boot, press F4 in clover's boot screen. Boot normally, and go to /efi/clover/acpi/origin folder. If the ssdt files are named as SSDT-1,  SSDT-2 .... that is the reason of the error. The ssdt files should named as "SSDT-1-CpuDef" , etc (with a suffix).

 

My supposition was that older clover versions read the names in the shorted way, but recent versions read the names appropriately. Maybe this supposition is wrong. If you are in the first case , you'll have to use the tip of paste the ssdt code into the dsdt.

What is your bios version?

OK. Don't worry. I'll recover the original el capitan's guide with the instructions for the fix.

 

Anyaway, with this example, I don´t know why sometimes ssdt names are extracted in way or in other way <_<. So , I'll update the sierra guide to cover both cases.

I have a lot of homeworks to update the guide. Be patience.  ;)
