Got some time to run through the Sierra upgrade on my Z820

I am running the v1 E5-2670 (dual cpu), with AMD HD Radeon 7970; the graphic card works out of the box, no tweaking/hacking needed.

For some reason my network adapter would not detect with the kext in this guide, I had to use AppleIntelE1000e.kext instead.

Sleep is working, and PM is too. I ran Geekbench, and single-Core score is 2762, and Multi-Core score is 18836 --that seems low for dual CPU system. How do I check to see if two CPU are working together?

One issue I have is after logging in, I get a Panic report that pops up. I am still figuring out what it is that causes the boot flag CPUS=1 in that Panic report:

hi Dr.droid. Are you using cpus=1? You don't have to use it , with voodootsync.kext . Maybe this is the origin of the kp ant low performance in multi. Install voodootsync.kext and test it.

I don't know why ethernet is not recognized by IntelMausiEthernet.kext. If the classic kext works for you, ok. Could you postyour exactly model of the ethernet adpater? maybe in V1 model is diferent?

Please, could you post more details about sleep? do you have a complete sleep or only a monitor's sleep?

Bilbo:

cpus=1 flag isn't selected in Clover > Boot tab. I don't know why the panic alert shows that.

I'll recopy/replace the current VoodooTSCSync.kext and see.

About sleep: both system and monitor sleeps and wake up, no problem. I didn't make any changes outside of this guide.

Edit:

The report shows NullCPUPowerManagement, but I did not load that, that's weird.

weird... maybe nvram is not saving the values. did you installed r.c. scripts when you installed clover internal HD?

Yes, RC scripts was selected to install on the internal HD.

Check S/L/E for nullcpupowermgmt, that does indeed look to be loaded.

but the pstates and the hwmon appears to indicate otherwise .. interesting indeed, could be a bogus report as for all the panics i seen i never had one pop up on login ...

Geekbench 4 scores should hover around 28.000 with the dual 2670 setup with Sierra.

My score in El Capitan was around there.

I use an external USB audio interface for video editing and El Capitan drops it once in a while, it's annoying. Sierra doesn't drop the USB audio interface, but a weird drop in performance, could be something I'm doing wrong.

How did you get the report? could you repeat it again? ...

moreover... do you have more than one hd system.... are you sure that you are booting clover from the right HD / efi ?

1) After logging in, a dialog pop up, and I click on "Report" button to see the log of problem.

2) Only one HD: Samsung SSD. It's only drive in the system to boot on.

UPDATE: I got the performance to jump to Single-Core Score: 3007; Multi-Core Score: 28548.

What I did:

Redownload [ Dual CPU.dmg.zip ] and copied "SSDT-1.aml" (from Files/Step 4) to EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched/.

This SSDT-1.aml file that affect the performance.

On the otherhand, the panic notice is still popping up after login.

Will do stress test and see how rock solid stable it is.

About the "Your computer was restarted..." pop up message I have to say that I had the same error in Mavericks, a long time ago. When I made a lot of experiments with clover, kernels.. olds methods.... . The error came up suddenly when I tested yosemite in other disk. The weird is when I back to the original disk... the window error continued ... and I never knew why. I reinstalled the so, clover, reset bios, even I did a clear cmos reset.... I get that error during one year. Only I get rid when I installed el capitan in a new disk. It has been the weirdest thing in my hackintosh-life.

I think it has to be related with some obscure and maybe corrupted persistence setting I-don't-know-where.... nvram? bios? ... I don´t know.

In fact, this error is reporting a log from one system that you don´t have. :surprised:

It's so weird. I used a fresh SSD drive, that never had an installation before.

I wonder if it has to do with me started with Sierra 10.12.3 installer, and apply updates to 10.12.6; because I the app store don't have the option for me to download 10.12.6.

I will try a few things, and try to track down the source of that panic dialog, it's annoying---and for peace of mind.

Well , after this week with the site down, let's go back with our bussiness....

Yessss .. good news .

I was about to throw all away, and really sad thinking in my options , when reading some advice and some thing in HP forums, I decided do "jumper crisis" method: I thought that it's not useful in my case, but anyway, I tried, and... bingo... the motherboard resurrected miraculously. It seems that the guilty was my raid pci card (lsi 9260): When the motherboard died, I was changing the graphic card and to do that, I have to unplug the lsi card too. Somehow, the card blocked the motherboard.

After do jumper crisis - method, and the resurrection , trying to plugin the card again, I get an obscure "PCI ERROR on slot 1" bios screen. So I decided throw the card to the garbage. Without it, the z820 boots normally. I passed all hardware test with the z820 utilities. More than 12 hours. The hardware seems ok. I bought a lsi card a few days ago.

I'm still testing , just in case, but everything seems ok. It has been in a big scare

btw, crisis recovery jumper is not described in any official documentation. Only the threat linked above and even in that thread there is no any official answer . HP is an absurd company.
