Humbajj
So I was just wondering how to prevent the APFS file system conversion when booted into a recovery installer such as Internet Recovery or standard Recovery Mode. I found a Terminal command that works when booted into the USB installer, but it doesn't work when booted into a recovery mode. This is the Terminal entry I use in a USB installer: /Volumes/"Image Volume/Install macOS High Sierra.app"/Contents/Resources/startosinstall --volume /Volumes/X --converttoapfs NO --agreetolicense

sixteen2nd
While booted to the High Sierra thumb drive, go up to the "Utilities" menu and launch "Terminal", then enter the following: /Volumes/Image\ Volume/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/startosinstall --volume /Volumes/NameOfYourVolume --agreetolicense --converttoapfs NO --nointeraction This will install High Sierra on your HFS formatted SSD without converting to APFS.
