I went and get the Asus Strix RX Radeon Vega 64 GPU but now I am having problems with the SSDT I had to move the wifi and the thunderbolt card one slot down because the GPU is so big that it is covering up slot 3 according to your nomenclature posted in your guide. can you please help me out. I will definitely buy you a beer at the end. thanks.

I have started working on the ssdt.

Can you still use the TB adapter in Slot-4? You can move the Wifi card to any other PCIe slot...

To help you, I would need your original DSDT.aml, a save of your IOREG and a list with the exact device slot population.

the wifi card only works in slot 3 and 4. i attached my original dsdt but its not allowing me to attach my ioreg.

I got my graphics card to work and show up the wifi works too but the thunderbolt works as well but it does not show up in system profile. the graphics card on the other hand, while it works, the fans are spinning at high speed most times.

Why does your Wifi card only on work in Slot-3 or 4? I strongly recommend to use the TB-Adopter in Slot-4!

I am not able to do anything without your IOREG. And once more, I need your exact slot population.

cant upload ioreg because its more than 10mb.

why do i see pci-bridge instead ox gfx0 for graphics or nhci for thunder bolt?

Hey guys couple of questions;

I’m putting together a new build so I’m between Xeon W-2195 and i9-7980xe.

Does Xeon needs any xcmp patches?

Works like a charm? Sleep? System lag? Android emulator works fast?

The only reason I’m thinking of going with Xeon is because of this:

https://www.asus.com/us/Commercial-Servers-Workstations/WS-C422-SAGE-10G/

Any suggestions?

Hi, man! :wink_anim:

You know that with a Xeon you won't be able to apply any OC? ECC Ram is costive and slow in addition..

WS-C422-Sage-10G is a nice thing to have... But...

What about https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/WS-X299-SAGE-10G/ ?

Xeon won't need any XCPM patches, as Skylake-X also does not require any XCPM patches...

With Skylake-X/X299 and Vega we have nearly reached vanilla system status .. :P

And yes.. in my opinion everything works like a charm, including sleep/wake..

But this question rather should be answered by others :wink_anim:.. I am not a fan of self promotion...

No clue what is Android emulator..  I am on iPhone X and IOS 11, rather  focusing on hands-off, airdrop and continuity, which perfectly works with my OSXWIFI..

I'll chip in as well :)

Your choice should be fully about what you use it for.

For example, I run a CAD software that mainly uses a couple of cores per open tab (like an elevation tab, a plan tab, a 3d window etc). Then sometimes I do renders which use all CPU cores flat out. So a CPU that can hit nearly 5gHz works best for my workflow. More cores is a bit pointless and can slow things down with lower clocks. I tried 24 cores last year and it was painfully slow.

I am happy with my i9-7980XE though and a Geekbench score of >65.000 with 18 cores is not painfully slow.. In any case I guess you won't be able to run a Xeon W-2195 @ something faster than 2.3 Ghz, which might lack any comparison with the 4.7 GHz (sync all cores) of a i9-7980XE.

And I guess that's the key answer to @Balamut 's originating question.

Although Intel specs state 4.3 Ghz turbo frequency for the Xeon W-2195.. Thus  I might be wrong with my assumptions?

No OC on Xeons.

Damn I didn't even see that one, now the choice is between Speed/OC and ECC since the boards are almost identical. Unless the memory correction is paramount and APFS is relying heavily on in memory bit correction like ZFS does, the choice seems obvious.

10G will free up a slot for me for Thunderbolt card.

I've got dual xeon v4 22 cores (Disabled some to get the max 64 core {censored} that Apple placed in the kernel), system is very laggy, and I can't even upgrade pass the 10.13.4

On the side note, I'll be getting this CPUs too, would have been fun if they would have worked in MacOS, but hey....

I think 4.3Ghz is Max for 1 core only.

Maxed out iMacPro

https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/7051891

i9-7980xe

https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/7267634

Thats a huge jump. Although the memory speed is higher here too.

Thank you fellas for all your inputs, it was more then helpful.

Hello.

Thank you for such a detailed manual. I made my setup with ASUS TUF X299 Mark 1.
I have the following problem. After some hours of sleep, I get kernel panic on wake up.
Any ideas?

From the prose you provide above not really ... :wink_anim: Try to post facts (EFI-Folder, BIOS settings, IROREG.save, etc. ), status report, system configuration, system composition, etc.

BIOS related questions: Are you using AVX offsets, what is your CPU configuration, MSR lock disabled?

Are you using a properly adopted TSCAdjustReset.kext?

Following some user feedback, the TUF X299 Mark 1 is difficult to handle and also seems not fully suited for its use under OSX. If you have any opportunity, change to a different X299 mobo ...

I'm using your config.plist with Nvidia injection enabled, DSDT patches integrated into it, changed serials, etc. One thing I didn't finish yet is I didn't rename offline CPU devices.

My build is in the progress, I didn't get a new CPU/RAM/GPU/M.2 SSD yet, was busy with modding the case and my custom loop.

I've patched BIOS. As far as I understand, no need to use TSCAdjustReset.kext in this case?

I've double checked all the settings. I didn't OC CPU yet and all offsets are set to Auto.

It was painfully slow, but with BIOS patches everything looks almost perfect now except wake problem and some strange CPU Core 11 temperature sensor :D But I didn't edit FakeSMC sensors yet.

With "cpu core ratio" set to "sync all cores", you must set "AVX" to "3" and "AVX-512 to "2"! Otherwise you will witness random kernel panics!

I will check the rest as soon I find time.. BTW.. Or you overlocking your CPU?

I would not patch BIOS firmware version 1401 and rather manually disable MSR LOCK in the BIOS Settings... works flawless..

It is not recommended to use a mixture of CPs and PRs! Please rename and order all CPs.. All populated PRs first... then all unpopulated PRs... In total you should have 55 PRs..

Otherwise, disable all CPxx -> PRxx patches and leave everything as originally implemented by OSX

CPU core ratio is set to "Per core", I didn't OC my CPU yet. I have nice temps and CPU is delidded, but I want to make sure everything's perfectly stable first.

I'll check AVX offsets now.

I've successfully patched 1401, all replaces were successful. I'll try to apply other methods (disable MSR LOCK, TSCAdjustReset.kext, etc.).

I'll rename remaining cores now. Every check takes time, my system doesn't panic after a brief sleep.

I've successfully patched 1401, all replaces were successful. I'll try to apply other methods (disable MSR LOCK, TSCAdjustReset.kext, etc.).

I'll rename remaining cores now. Every check takes time, my system doesn't panic after a brief sleep.

BTW.. I forgot to mention... The CPU core numbering issues in iStat Menus should be resolved within the next upcoming iStatMenus distribution. Currently, there is still a bug in the program.. The Sensor kexts are working fine though..

Why does your Wifi card only on work in Slot-3 or 4? I strongly recommend to use the TB-Adopter in Slot-4!

I am not able to do anything without your IOREG. And once more, I need your exact slot population.

manage to get everything in the right slot, but now I cannot get HDMI Audio to work, how do I enable HDMI Audio with Radeon Vega? Thanks.

10.13.5 and 10.14: Vega HDAU seems to work exclusively with Whatevergreen.kext v.1.1.7

My ASUS TUF X299 Mark 1 is stable now. Yay!
I have to do more testing for sure.
I have two problems to solve now:
1. Any USB device can wake up a computer, but nothing charges during sleep. External disks are losing connection and "Disk Not Ejected Properly" is shown on wake up. Including Time Machine disk, unfortunately. It looks like USB current during sleep is too low. I'm trying to find a solution, but out of ideas. The problem's wider than I thought at first. Needs more investigation.
2. Not all temperature, rpm, etc. sensors are available for motherboard configuration in Contents/Info.plist. I'm investigating this right now. Commented this later.

What about removing the Nvidia HDAU kext patch from the config.plist? Or maybe you need a slightly different HDAU kext patch for the Vega, what I doubt as natively implemented? Although your entire HDAU implementation seems to fail at present due to unknown reason .. Please check once more your HDAU implementation by means of IOREG!

nothing shows up in ioreg when I type in "HDAU"

and when I type in "Display" in ioreg  I get: PCO2@0>BR2A@0>SLO5@0>pic-bridge@0>display@0

Shouldn't I see something like GFX@0? thanks.

Your GFX SSDT implementation is not working and that's why also your HDAU SSDT implementation fails..

iStatMenus 6.20 Beta

Thanks for the link! No CPU cores mess anymore.
But I yet need to jump into sensors source code. Lots of motherboard/external temperature sensors and some fan headers still missing. That was expected, other tools do not display them too.
