Using the STAC9200 on an e1505 by Dell, Semthex kernel and 10.4.8. I'm not sure which STAC9200 codec dump I am using, however. I have only tried the v1.15 patcher.

dxdiag deviceid from vista: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801BD&REV_1022

Sounds works well, though I have these three problems:

1. Mute doesn't actually mute anything. Audio plays as normal.

2. Lowest volume setting still plays sound very quietly, can never have no sound.

3. Headphone port doesn't mute the built-in speakers.

Other than that, everything seems to work well. Haven't tested the mic yet though...

Basically, I have three main questions.

1. Will dumping my own codec in linux and using it to patch with have any effect on the above problems?

2. Does anyone have a codec dumped already that is working for them?

3. How do I know which codec in the dump page is right for me to use? There are like 12 different 9200 codecs.

Thanks!

Hi,

kernalzero thanks for your p.m. about Taruga's (keep up the great work man) AppleHDAPatcher. Unfortunately I'd like to report that it didn't worked for me, I'm on a laptop with Realtek ALC883 ICH7 chip and I used Knoppix for the codec dump. At this point I have to say that under knoppix I did't had sound either, but still I made the dump to try it with os x but with no success. I hope ther is a solutions for my problem!!

Here is: my_dump.txt

p.s. Before Taruga's method I used (if I remember the names correctly) AzaliaAudio.pkg and 883Audio.pkg.

Is this causing any problems?

I also made sure the subsystem string was the same.

I'm trying the installer on my MSI 975x platinum motherboard which uses ALC883

I am running 10.4.8, Darwin 8.8.1 (latest jas 10.4.8 release)

I get a kernal panic no matter what I do.

any ideas?

your probably using the semthex kernel, which has issues with sometimes, use DaemonES or Mifki kernel

AD1986a Solution

Via VT81XX HDA AD1986a

Hardware ID : 0x11d41986

uid device IS: 0x32881106

1) Make backup copies of AppleHDA.kext and AppleAC97xxxxx.kext:

On terminal, type:

cd /System/Library/Extensions

sudo mkdir audio_backup

sudo mv AppleHDA.kext audio_backup/

sudo mv AppleAC97Family.kext audio_backup/

2) Edit AppleAzaliaAudio.kext:

On terminal, type:

sudo vi AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Info.plist

Search for "IOHDAudioCodecVendorID" pressing "/" on vi:

<key>IOHDAudioCodecVendorID</key>

<string>0x10ec0880</string>

Press "i" to edit:

<string>0x10ec0880</string> -- to -- <string>0xhardware id</string>

Exit: Press ESC and then press type ":wq" to save and exit vi.

On terminal, type:

sudo vi AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAzaliaController.kext/Contents/Info.plist

Search for "IOPCIPrimaryMatch" pressing "/" on vi:

<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>

<string>0xNNNN8086</string> (where NNNN are any 4 characters)

Press "i" to edit:

<string>0xNNNN8086</string> -- to -- <string>0xuid device </string>

(note: for Via ADI1986a, the string is probably correct without any edit)

Exit: Press ESC and then press type ":wq" to save and exit vi.

3) Repair file system permissions:

On terminal, type:

sudo diskutil repairpermissions /

sudo chown -R root:wheel AppleAzaliaAudio.kext

sudo chmod -R 755 AppleAzaliaAudio.kext

cd /System/Library

sudo rm -rf Extensions.mkext Extensions.kextcache

4) Then, reboot and enjoy 2CH audio.

Ok... First post, first question:

How could I know what kernel I'm using? I've 10.4.7 upgraded to 10.4.8 (everything JaS). With this, I have the right kernel or not? I'm using an Acer 2482, with an ALC883 (Realtek). Everytime Kernel Panic.

Thanks in advance :(

EDIT: Ok, I discovered that I've the darwin 8.4.1. So I think I must go for a "full reinstall" with a 10.4.8 OS, or I could install only the new kernel? Thank you

Ok I updated my kernel and got the 1.5 patcher to install.. it works but some sounds are choppy.

i was playing a video in VLC and the sound was skipping.. however, I just tried playing a trailer on quicktime and it was perfect.

also does multi channel sound work with analog or only digital?

I am using ALC 882 / MSI 975x platinum.

Also, what is the correct way to uninstall the driver? (sorry I am new to this)

As stated in the first post, the patcher requires 8.8.1 kernel. Now the problem with the panics you are experiencing might be because of the type of 8.8.1 kernel you are using. As i've read in some posts in this topic, the semthex kernel has some bugs. So try to change kernels.. eg use DaemonES or Mifki kernel (8.8.1 of course). Hope this hepls.. good luck
