Dr.Q
After using AppleHDAPatcher v1.15 on my JaS 10.4.8 i don't get any sound, not from the build in speakers nor the jack output. The system profiler tells me that there is "No Built-in Audio". However according to System Preferences>Sound I have 2 output devices. Namely Line Out (on Port Built-in Line Output) and Digital Out (on Port Built-in Digital Output), but I don't have any volume control. Can someone help me figure out what's going wrong? My system: Asus V6J (laptop) OSX = JaS 10.4.7 -> updated with eGWan combo update patch Sound = Analog Devices 1986 (Vendor id: 11D4, Device id: 1986) Linux Codec Dump I tried, I made the last one myself using a Ubuntu 6.06 LTS install CD: - AD1986a.txt - AD1986.txt

DaveGee
From one Dave to another, Dave, and with great respect, your tutorial is very helpful and highly recommended for anyone who CAN GET SOUND IN LINUX. ... Cheers, Dave Wow... Yea I guess I didn't even think to take that into account... Maybe because I had just assumed that linux would have support for practically all of the permutations of Audio Codecs... I further assumed that someone would understand/assume that if something didn't work in Linux.... an OS that provides drivers for just about EVERYTHING UNDER and over THE SUN .... That OS X was CLEARLY not going to have support for it. Lets face it... OS X (while a fantastic - and my primary OS) is NOT exactly known for having an enormous library of 3rd party drivers. I dunno but with equal great respect, I really didn't think the assumptions I made were in any a huge leap... K_o_G
Just use the Patcher V 1.13 then Linee-out andf Digital out (only Stereo) is working I testet it with every version 1.10 - 1.15 I get the error on every version (1.13 to) Is there another way to get it work? (only 2 chanel output should be ok for me at the moment; full support would be nice) Update: I get 2 Channel output working for my AD1988a by modifing Azalia. I hope the hda patcher will work soon for AD1988 to get full support for my onboard audio. For other AD1988a users: Modify Azalia.kext with Vendor 0x11d41988 and 0x284b8086 cu K_o_G Edited March 1, 2007 by K_o_G

Giff
I have the same issue with the AD1988 codec mentioned above, will try 1.13. Is there source for the patcher available? I have done the Azalia patch and have output working, picked up a cheapie USB handset for Skype-ing. The handset was 10 bucks at NewEgg (look for Syba USB VoIP phone) and also has a mic and a line out jack. Worked with no issues, autodetected, etc. The line out support 5.1 channel sound or stereo headset. ITs detected in "About this Mac..." as a C-Media chipset; I know there are other units, including a very small USB adapter that use the same set. For those of you waiting for patches, this may work well for you as a solution in the meantime. The main reason I wanted to patch was to get line in support for Skype, and I got 5.1 ch sound in the bargain.

New Life
what a great job you have done , Taruga I want to share my experience with you guys My laptop is dell inspiron 1300 manufactured in China, and set Chinese as default language in Mac OSX. All patcher versions doesnt work for me at the very first. Most of them just open a blank window and no message was shown at all. 1.08 and 1.09 seem almost work for me, cause some messages was output during usage, but took no effect actually of cuz. After almost 3-4 hrs trial, noticed that Taruga had said he encounter some name space prob or so, I realize that I should change the language setting before I use those patchers. Yup, as you may guess, patchers wont work in a Chinese environment while it is perfect in English env. Thanks to Taruga, my Sigmatel 9200 finally speaks out and mic works too I think And, according to my codec0, my Sigmatel 9200 chip is different from all in http://psykopat.free.fr/apple/AppleHDA/, here comes the codec dump. Also i upload this codec file in case someone may want to download. Note that subsys id is 102801c9, good luck. juanpepe
Hi, is anybody still at work? Is taruga still trying to make it work? Because if not then this thread has lost its goal, because as it seems the one who knew how to solve it was taruga, but he didn't explain how it worked or how one could help so that the whole info is berried in his mind. I only hope that somebody did get a glimps in tarugas work and figgured it out so as to continue tarugas great work, or has some source code. Anyway you all must thank taruga for hes great job at helping many of you guys. And please, anyone having problems with the patch: PLEASE READ THIS THREAD THROUGH because most of the answers lies on some previous posts. Taruga did so much, you could at least take some time to read the thread! Edited March 3, 2007 by juanpepe
Pablo Sotomayor
AD1986a Solution Via VT81XX HDA AD1986a Hardware ID : 0x11d41986 uid device IS: 0x32881106 1) Make backup copies of AppleHDA.kext and AppleAC97xxxxx.kext: On terminal, type: cd /System/Library/Extensions sudo mkdir audio_backup sudo mv AppleHDA.kext audio_backup/ sudo mv AppleAC97Family.kext audio_backup/ 2) Edit AppleAzaliaAudio.kext: On terminal, type: sudo vi AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Info.plist Search for "IOHDAudioCodecVendorID" pressing "/" on vi: <key>IOHDAudioCodecVendorID</key> <string>0x10ec0880</string> Press "i" to edit: <string>0x10ec0880</string> -- to -- <string>0xhardware id</string> Exit: Press ESC and then press type ":wq" to save and exit vi. On terminal, type: sudo vi AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAzaliaController.kext/Contents/Info.plist Search for "IOPCIPrimaryMatch" pressing "/" on vi: <key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key> <string>0xNNNN8086</string> (where NNNN are any 4 characters) Press "i" to edit: <string>0xNNNN8086</string> -- to -- <string>0xuid device </string> (note: for Via ADI1986a, the string is probably correct without any edit) Exit: Press ESC and then press type ":wq" to save and exit vi. 3) Repair file system permissions: On terminal, type: sudo diskutil repairpermissions / sudo chown -R root:wheel AppleAzaliaAudio.kext sudo chmod -R 755 AppleAzaliaAudio.kext cd /System/Library sudo rm -rf Extensions.mkext Extensions.kextcache 4) Then, reboot and enjoy 2CH audio.
