any progress on ADI1986 support?

I'm currently on Mac OS X 10.4.8 by Lord JaS on an Asus A8Jc notebook.

I installed the AzaliaAudio.pkg, which gave me a working volumeslider, but no sound.

Any enlightenment is very much appreciated

OK this may not be relevant to most of you, but on my system after installing iLife'06 and its updates and rebooting, audio (AL882M; 0.4b was already installed) now works with gband, which didn't previously work at all even though I had system sounds and sound in QT. I now seem to have many I/O entries n the audio properties and what seems like pretty complete info on all these ins and outs, though still nothing in "About this computer". I'm too much of a noob to mac/osx to tell what exactly is going on so please don't rush to any conclusions! But something did change for the better.

Just a Heads Up! if you werent aware

I also have the SoundMax ADI 1986 integrated soundcard on my AMD mobo and couldnt get the sound to work.

So i did what Rammjet suggested in the how to solve Audio issue and went out and bought a cheap <$20 USB soundcard. tHAt solved my SOUND IN/OUt problem!

quick and painless :unsure::rolleyes::whistle:

Just make sure u go into AUDIO/MIDI setup and make sure the USB soundcard is selected but it was automatically detected without any problems. Cos i had no other detectable soundcard , ya gotta love OSX!

this is a stopgap solution whislt we await a proper solution. thanks All. I am using the tUBGIRL release of 10.4.8

The 0.4b AppleHDA.kext worked great for my ALC882 @ 10.4.8, but now I have upgraded to 10.4.9 and it doesn't seem to work anymore, none is recognized. Had to go back to AppleAzaliaAudio.kext to get the sound working. Once again no line-in...

This works for me - P5LD2 motherboard,

however, the sound stutters and cracks for a second each time a sound is played, i.e. a new MP3, then resolves itself after a second and plays fine.

Consequently, sound effects are always garbled because they are under a second mostly.

Thanks for the good work,

Bryan

Fixed by getting newest Semthex kernel.

Works beautifully now.

I had the exact same problem with my P5LD2 mobo, which has alc882.

I replaced the 10.4.9 AppleHDA.kext with the old 10.4.8 one and ran the 0.4b mpkg again.

I don't know why it works but, I got the sound back this way. :P

For those who have ADI 1986, why don't you guys try update QuickTime 7 to 7.1.3? I'm not sure about laptop, but on desktop system (I've a Asus i865 system before), I wasn't able to get sound (hardware is found) until update QT.

"...the Tortoise never for a moment stopped, but went on with a slow but steady pace straight to the end of the course. The Hare, lying down by the wayside, fell fast asleep. At last waking up, and moving as fast as he could, he saw the Tortoise had reached the goal, and was comfortably dozing after his fatigue."

DISCLAIMER: I am not bitching, flaming, complaining or anything of the sorts in this post. You asking.

I have not followed this thread on a day to day basis but it seems to me that it's been a while since Taruga made any apperance in this thread, or am I wrong? I seem to remember reading him posting that a new installer that should work for everyone and also much better than the posted version should be available in a few weeks but I seem to remember reading this post about a month ago. Has anyone heard anything from him??

It's only been a couple weeks since his last post (page 29 I think), so I'm not worried about it. He's done good stuff so far, so I'm happy to wait on the new version. Not that I'm not EAGERLY waiting mind you

My personal worry is that it'll work for me, but not with my laptop's built-in speakers (Dell D620 w/7690). I upgraded laptops recently and lost audio. On the plus side, I got higher resolution, more ram and ss3, so it was worth it even if I don't get sound back.

I´m alive and working on it, I need a basic structure to allow me to change things for everyone in a practical way. It´s not easy to program a thing, keeping in mind several different audio configs as you may noticed so far.

Sorry for the stupid question, but how can I make a dump of my codec under Linux?

cd /proc/asound

(Look for something like Card0 if your codec is supported and browse into that dir.)

cat codec#0 > /tmp/codecdump.txt

Now copy that txt file to a place where you can access it later (i.e. Save it)
