candykane
Well Guys I've bin fooling around with the sleep mode. Think i almost got it working Well i get to see my desktop part of it any way and wel the other part is garbled think its my video card driver its not that stable (Ati X1900XTX Jcool) Im wondering what other people are experiencing OKE the BIOS settings go to power. there you set it to : Suspendmode ---------- Auto or S3 ( if you try S1 system hangs on waking up) repost video on S3 ----- Yes ACPI 2.0 suport --------- Yes ACPI APIC---------------- enabled (very important to set these this way or system will not boot at all just get the gray and black nead to restart screen) Then go down to the AMP configuration Powerbutton -------suspend ( usably it be on on/off) Save and well start up OSX86 Wel now when you put the system to sleep then wake it up with hitting the powerbutton. ( there are several more ways the wake up the system there all in the AMP configuration. just fool around a bit there be Wake on PS2 (ports) Well Im hoping we can knak this sucker system info 10.4.9 asus P5W deluxe Intel dualcore 815 (2,6@4Ghz) 2 GB ram ATI X1900XTX 512MB ATA Harddrive ( no sata installed)
Mr.Sticky
Tried this, didnt work for me I have a feeling it has to do with the video driver or kernel? When i powered it back on nothing came up. When i clicked my mouse button, it lit the red light up but nothing on the screen.. Had to reset it.

peach-os
same for me - it´s just rebooting. now it would be interesting to find out what makes the difference. there are only three left: 1. we use nvidia - ati is working for you 2. sata - success with ata 3. 10.4.10 - 10.4.9 works is anyone able to find out with try an error? who knows......it could be a combination of all ;-)
peach-os
ok - did it myself. trial and error with the possibilities I had. used the bios settings that candykane wrote in his earlier post 1. used an old IDE ATA to install 2. installed the JaS 10.4.8 ppf1 & and ppf 2 - only thing that happened was the blinking cursor after reboot 3. used the JaS 10.4.8 with diskutil and ICH7R patch - success result: no sleep 4. updated with JaS 10.4.9 /8.9.1 kernel result: no sleep 5. back and updatet with koolkal 10.4.9/8.9.1 kernel result: no sleep 6. updated with koolkal 10.4.10/8.9.1 kernel result: no sleep 7. back updated with koolkal 10.4.10/8.10.1 kernel result: no sleep conclusion didn´t get working sleep except at the beginning, with the blinking cursor ;-) two factors that still could make the difference: 1. it doesn´t work with nvidia on this board 2. wrong bios version candykane-do you have a spare nvidia card to proof that? candykane
lol well got some bad news forgot the card was AGP lol. so im off to the store to get the cheapest card there is. some thing passively cooled. that Ati 1900XTX is great unfortunate ly it does not sound great makes a lot of noise. think im going to stick it in the second pci slot on the board see what will happen. )

thefinalprophecy
I can't figure out how to get a good stable build of 10.4.10 (with an up-to-date kernal) on my P5w. I got a new video card so I've been messing around, but whenever I do an update to .10 (from the latest uphuck) it crashes. tried the PascalW update too. Any ideas? Specs are in the signature. Also need help getting my video card to work with 1) 1680x1050 res. 2) QE/CI 3) NO mouse tearing!!! <-- I believe this is directly related to the video card drivers. evildesign
I am having a issue trying to install JaS 10.4.8 ppf1 & and ppf 2. It wont find my drives, and they are on the Jmicron IDE. and the DVD drive on the intel IDE. Everytime I boot it just saying saying 'Still waiting for root device' over and over for some odd reason. G5rocks
Thanks candykane! 4 questions: 1 - I downloaded the kernel from IRC it's named "mach_idt" - how can I install the kernel? I already updated to 10.4.9 and I didn't found a "manual" how to exchange the kernel after 10.4.9 is installed. 2 - Will this be displayed correctly in system profiler after i exchanged the kernel?:(my processor is a 2.4 GHz core 2 quad, FSB 1066) 3 - BIOS does not recognize my RAM correctly - it says 533mhz (if i remember correctly) instead of 800mhz how can i change this in the BIOS? I am a PC noob (mac user since 1991) 4 - another question: Temperatures of the Q6600 - what is normal?Does hardware monitor really work? I just run cinebench 10 and it was at 90°C - In windows it's around 50°C and running cinebench it goes up to 75°C!
candykane
yes yes i had all sort of weird stuff happen my processor was seen as a 4Ghz its 2,5 ghz load of stuff went wrong time did not update , graphics where not sinking and bus frequency was wrong. first off you nead a irc clienthttp://www.aquaticx.com/downloads/Xirc/Xirc.dmg download it. ******open the program click connect a new window will open pop in chat.osx86.hu at server and just type in a nick and user name any will do top right type #1049 just wait.you will see new text in the middle window click 1 of the first 2 links oke you got a kernel now we nead to extract it just dubbel click it now comes the hard part replacing a kernel: you can read it all on the mckill web site but oke ill just copy paste an ad some stuff and explain one of the first things you’ll notice is that everything seems to be going too fast in 10.4.8-JaS, the reason is that the FSB auto-detection isn't working on the built-in kernel. to fix this and get some nice performance/stability improvements, get the latest semthex kernel from irc.macspeak.net in #kernel ******done that rename the kernel you got to mach_kernel sinds all guide are like that. makes your life easy now just copy paste ) more information about semthex’s work and kernel can be found at his website here.in case you aren’t able to get onto irc, get the latest snapshot from here ***** bla bla bla once you have the new kernel, backup your old on in / with the following command:OKE go to apps go to utils . open a little program named terminal think you sould tow it to your dock you be using it a lot if you have a hackin tosh and are experimenting *********once open type exactly or just copy paste (with exactly i mean ecactly letters cases spaces everything sudo -s (pass word asked give your root pass word) sudo mv /mach_kernel /mach_kernel-backup ******once you’ve backed up your kernel, move over the new one sudo mv ~/Desktop/mach_kernel / (the kernel i got is mach_idt so it be sudo mv ~/Desktop/mach_idt /)watch the space between the kernel name and the slash its verry important dont for get it sudo chown root:wheel /mach_kernel sudo chmod 755 /mach_kernel ***** open disk utils from the apps/ulits folder and fix the drive permissions reboot your system once you’re done, if for whatever reason it wont boot or you get a kernel panic, you can switch back to your old kernel by hitting F8 on bootup after BIOS messages and type : kernel mach_kernel-backupBack SLEEP FUNCTION results!!!!Well i almost have it working :Si changed the kernel of my 10.4.9 to the new universal sse2 sse3 and with sleep function its @ hu in channel #1049also i turned off in the bios repost video on S3 Or else i got a garbled screen. RESULTS :Oke i get my hole desk top as i left it nothing garbled but, mouse keyboard don't work i connect a usb mouse and poef i got a mouse pointer and can move it around click stuff but nothing happens so close :S

peach-os
thanks candykane for the great effort ! @g5rocks: the temperature of your cpu is much too high! are you using the stock cooler? my q6600 is running idle with 28°C and 45°C after some benchmarks. did you mix up core and cpu temps? core temps are 15°C - 20°C higher than the cpu temperature.what did you use to check it under osx? G5rocks
thanks again candykane i'll try that soon thanks candykane for the great effort ! @g5rocks: the temperature of your cpu is much too high! are you using the stock cooler? my q6600 is running idle with 28°C and 45°C after some benchmarks. did you mix up core and cpu temps? core temps are 15°C - 20°C higher than the cpu temperature.what did you use to check it under osx? i'm using this one: http://www.hardwareoc.at/Apack_ZEROtherm_CF-900.htm it had no thermal grease on it - i added some... was the first time i did that maybe i did something wrong. i'll try again with new thermal grease. what is the best tool to read out temperatures in windows xp? (i'm a 100% mac user with almost no PC experience) - with the asus tool my mainboard temp is reported at 48°C and processor at 50°C in os x i used marcel bresink's "hardware monitor" - it showed me 4 core temperatures i stopped cinebench when i saw it was raising up to over 85°C
G5rocks
did exactly what you wrote to install the kernel - repaired permissions and rebooted. during shutdown of the system kernel panik appeared. i pressed the power button and screen went black. nothing happened - no bios screen came. pressed several times but no changes. then i pulled the plug and waited 30 seconds. pluged power in again and pressed power button - light is burning and lamp on the motherboard, HD running but CPU fan and other fans are not running - black screen. is there a way to reset the motherboard like on a real mac? if not then i fear my new hackintosh didn't survived for much longer than 24 hours
