Hello,

I get the realtek rt8187l driver installed OK and connected to my AP. However, I found the following issues

1) It only support WEP, change to WPA will get initial 1st data load OK, than get stuck ;)

2) The UI of the realtek is very buggy

3) Cannot set default profile, no auto connection

4) SLOW performance, in window XP side I get about 9MB up/down speed to the internet, in OSX side, only 2.5MB.

Any suggestion.

Thank in advance !

Cheers

is the wifi on the p5w really buggy and cant auto connected? or is it just you set up ?

would like to know. as ill be installing mine o monday when cpu comes

From what i've read the wireless needs to be connected manually each time the computer is booted. I haven't heard too many other complaints.

How exactly do you flash the bios? I have done it through EZFlash twice and it has destroyed my chip each time. I am currently awaiting another bios chip...

Oh, and I DON'T have a floppy...

Thanks!!

All I did was put the bios rom on a usb thumb drive, then boot up into the bios and use the EZFlash. Your other option is to install windows and use the flash utility through there.

I have tried both using the Windows flashing utility and EZ Flash and both have resulted in the same thing, me calling Asus and spending $10 for shipping for another chip. I am starting a collection of them. So far I'm up to 2 dead chips. <-- Sarcasm

I really want to put my own boot logo on my machine. I'm using the BMP from sg's forum.

That sucks you're going through BIOS's like that. I have flashed mine 3 times (once with EZFlash and twice with windows) and I haven't hit any issues. Make sure you aren't overclocking when you do it. Also when you do it with windows make sure you have erase checked so it erases first then flashes it. The old bios settings won't be compatible with the new bios settings if you're upgrading or downgrading to another version.

Well you can flash using the asus update util in windows just download the rom and update using the file.

hmm you can reflash your own chips bye the way

it verry scary do boot remove your bios chip (computer must still be running , then put in the wrong flashed chip flash it and reboot.

Whats the prob here.. if you {censored}edup your bios, just put a bios file (name is in the guide) on a usb drive, stick it in your pc, and boot it up.. It will flash your bios again..

For the logo, just put the logo in the bios with the asus utility in windows under parallels, and flash the bios file with the utility in the bios.. works like a charm here...

Ok Kaspers, I will try it. My computer barely turns on. The power light comes on and the HD spins for 2 seconds and then nothing. You're saying that if I get a flash drive and put the appropriate bios ROM on it and boot up, then it should just reflash itself?

Personally it sounds like you have bigger problems. If your computer shuts down after a few seconds something is wrong. Do you get any warning beeps? Did you have any issues before you flashed the board? What 3rd party hardware do you have on? There may be a chance your mobo is bad.

I am thinking of getting a new board

I've got the choice between Asus P5W DH deluxe, Gigabyte GA-P965-DQ6 rev1.0 or a new Gigabyte P35 for which I can't find any related info to macosx :'(

For the Gigabyte DQ6 rev 1.0 I know from others that the sound onboard is totally recognized, not only audio out but all of it.

Is this also true for the Asus P5W DH? Is everything from the sound recognized?

I'm considering installing it with "Uphuck 10.4.9 universal x86 install dvd v1.2"

You choose operating system by choosing bootable hard disk (press F8 during POST). You don't need any boot loader...

The sound isn't ready out of the box. But it is super easy to add. Just use Targus' sound patch. Works perfectly. It literally takes 10 seconds and you're good to go. Mic works, optical works... though I haven't tested 7.1 yet. The Asus P5W DH is a VERY osx86 friendly board. Everything works on it, and it overclocks like mad. I'm very happy with my purchase, so happy I have recommend regular pc people to get it.
