I was having a look at mobo's with a view to building a hackintosh into my cube. I was struck by the idea of a PCI-Express slot...

I'm quite taken with the idea :) On a related note, has anyone ever seen PCI-Express riser or angle cards - I'd need to use that PCI-Express slot turned through 90 degrees.

That board is interesting, it's got me thinking about all kinds of places I could put a tiny mac. I'd recommend caution about the networking card, http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...3&hl=82573L that was the only thread I could find where someone referenced success with that chipset, and I'm not sure it continued to work for him. am I doing the currency conversion correctly if I come up with about 350$ USD? at that price it'd be cheaper to go ahead and get a mac mini and just gut it, and put it into your cube. Think I even saw a tutorial on how to do it online, might google it.

Good luck!

Yeah - that same Mac Mini in a cube was what got me thinking, and I could quite cheerfully have gutted a mac mini and done that same thing. But...its always the graphics card in the end. As a cube owner I've always been used to having quicker than stock graphics cards - I know the 950 is ok, but its not the most rapid card around. So having the possibility of running an nVidia or a decent ATI out of the PCI-Express appeals....

The uk distributor I quoted above does seem to be 'gouging'. The same board in the USA - here http://www.logicsupply.com/index.php/cPath/78_75 is $315.

They do some weird and wonderful stuff though - the manufacturers site is here.

If you think you like the idea of sticking a small form mac somewhere, that place is a complete ideas farm.

hey sanwer they do make pci-x risers i believe silverstone makes some.

http://silverstonetek.com/products-rc01.htm

theres also some flexible ones around just google pci-x riser.

<dances> This is a plan coming together quite well now. I've been measuring up all weekend. Cardboard is a great prototyping tool...

It looks like it will all fit. A Flexible PCI-X riser? Thats an idea that might help. I could mount the video card away from the main heat source ;-)

Wow - very cool. Especially like the idea of the spare PCI slots on the end of that ribbon. Can't think what for but you never know...ordered mine today. Now for the CPU and mobo....and its payday today.

Race?

Missed out on my cube case earlier this week but theres a non-worker coming up.

<Smacks forehead> I'e just realised this is EXACTLY what I needed to finish my quicksilver case - I was stuck trying to extend a DVI cable (try buying a 15cm M/F extension cable...) onto a card bracket. With this, I can mount the video card in the case as per normal and run the ribbon cable to the motherboard. I'm ordering a second one of these.... quite simply the most useful of kit in a modder's armoury. I owe you for that bit of research, diabolik :poster_oops:

Silicon for xmas dosent sound like a bad wish.

Hell what can i say i might get the itch and just do it.
