Nvidia Web Driver updates for macOS High Sierra (UPDATE Nov 13, 2020)

Got back from my trip to IL yesterday.  Just powered up Hackintosh-Andromeda.

Performed Update to 10.13.6 - (17G12034) and Web Driver 387.10.10.10.40.135.

 

No issues to report.  SETI@Home is ENDING after 20+ Years of Scientific Number Crunching.

I will be Crunching the last few of my Work Units tonight.

[UPDATE:]

 

On Hackintosh-Andromeda, I've been struggling for the PAST TWO DAYS

regarding Compute Issues on my two NVIDIA GPUs.  ALL GPU Compute

Work is FAILING.

 

At this time, I believe that the new NVIDIA Web Driver 387.10.10.10.40.135

MAY have caused the issue.  I need OTHER Number Crunchers to confirm.

 

The new Driver is causing the CUDA Driver to FAIL in CUDA Crunching.

On SETI@Home work, (ending today), I get "Best Pulse = 0" Results which

then come to an "Invalid" Compute Record at SETI@Home.  For OpenCL work,

directly in the (.135) Driver, at Collatz Conjecture ALL work ends in "Compute

Error".

 

Either BOTH my Cards' Compute Cores have FAILED at the same time.  (After the

computer being OFF for 10 Days.  Then Updating MacOS to (17G12034), and the

new (.135) Driver.)  Or the (.135) Driver is DEFECTIVE!

 

At this time, I'm choosing NOT to Update the Mac Pro 5,1 System to (17G12034)

NOR to Driver 387.10.10.10.40.135.

 

With SETI@Home is ENDING after 20+ Years of Scientific Number Crunching, I will

NOT be able to get New Units from them on the Mac Pro 5,1 to cross check the

Driver Issue.

[Update 2:]

 

I've been fiddling and futzing with Software for the past week and a half...  Rolled back

to 10.13.6 - (17G11023) and NVIDIA Driver 387.10.10.10.40.134 this afternoon.

 

Ran BOINC and Collatz Conjecture Project.  STILL got "Compute Error" Msgs on

Completed Units.  From here, I went to my Windows 7 Drive, Ran BOINC and

Collatz Conjecture Project.  NOTE:  Under Windows, OpenCL works on both

the 1070 AND the 1050 Cards, whereas in MacOS the NVIDIA Driver ONLY

gives OpenCL to the Primary Video Card - the 1070....  Under Windows,

both Cards Crunched One Unit on Each Card SUCCESSFULLY.

 

Back to MacOS, went in to the app_config.xml in Collatz and took out the

'Multiple Units on One GPU' and because of MacOS User Preferences, had

to Reinstall BOINC, Launch BOINC, Run Collatz...  NOW with ONLY One

Unit running on the 1070, the GPU Crunches fine....

 

Reran MacOS Security Update.  Updated the NVIDIA Driver.  Now back to

(17G12034) and NVIDIA Driver 387.10.10.10.40.135.  Launched BOINC,

Ran Collatz - IT WORKS!!!  One Unit at a time!

 

Conclusion:  The Compute Cores ARE damaged.  As a replacement

MacVidCards' GTX-1070 8GB is now $499, AND the AMD/ATI Sapphire

Radeon Pulse RX-580 8GB is currently $329, I will be saving up for the

Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX-580 8GB Card and I plan to move up to Mojave

after removing both my NVIDIA Cards from the Hackintosh.

 

Driver (.135) does work.  I WILL now plan to Upgrade the Mac Pro at a

later date.

 

Almost 9 Hours of Software and Hardware work today on Hackintosh-Andromeda.

Only NOW am I just about finished Reloading ALL 50+ Firefox Tabs in the Latest

Firefox.

Hey Folks, I could use some help. Drivers appear to be installed and running but when I drag a window across the screen its not refreshing cleanly.

 

I have a Mac Pro5,1 running macOS 10.13.6 (17G12034), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti NVIDIA Driver (.135). The card is correctly recognised by the machine. The driver shows as active in the NVIDIA Driver Manager.

Actually, I have reported SEVERAL Issues related to my Number Crunching and Web Driver

problems.  NVIDIA NEVER replies....  (Backed up my reports with data from Mac App

Developers, whom have also reported issues....  To NO avail.)

 

At least by reporting here, as well, it notifies Users of what to expect using certain Apps.

AND, finally nailed down the culprit with my problem with Number Crunching and the

Compute Errors I was getting....  It turns out that the NVIDIA Web Driver, (made to

Apple's specifications), DOES NOT ramp up GPU Fan Speed under Load.  Whereas,

in Windows, programs like EVGA's Precision-X and MSI's Afterburner DO monitor

and ramp up Fan Speeds under Load.

 

So, over the past year under MacOS, performing Number Crunching Operations,

(EVEN THOUGH my E-ATX Case has 5 140mm Fans, and I have a CoolerMaster

Hyper212-EVO with a 120mm Fan), the GPU kept hitting 80-82C under Load!

This effectively has burned out the Computing Cores on the 1070 8GB Card!

 

I've complained about this lack of GPU Fan Speed Control, too.  AGAIN, to

NO AVAIL!  Apple and NVIDIA just DON'T CARE!

 

I've learned the hard way to NOW NOT do Number Crunching on a Hackintosh.

Yes, this Released over a month ago.

 

Both my Systems are on (17G12034) and the (.135) Driver.

Many of us going back a couple of pages have also Updated to

(17G12034) and (.135).

 

Is there something else specific about the Updates you have questions

about?  Any problems to report?  Any specific questions pertaining to

these Updates that we can help on?

Hello, I have an issue but I might have made a mistake.

I've seen that it was possible to install Nvidia Web Drivers on versions above 10.13.6

But I've tried on 10.15.4 and I get an error at the end of the installation of the patched driver : WebDriver-387.10.10.10.40.135 (19E287)

 

Im on a MacBook Pro of 2012 with a GT 650M on it.

 

Is there a way to fix it or I have to try to get 10.13.6 ?

Thank you for the quick answer.

I need this driver because none of my softwares recognize the GPU an I can't use CUDA, so yes that's what I'm after.
Expecially on Blender for 3D rendering etc.

I've just upgraded to 10.15 few days ago because but I didnt do any of 10.11 backup so I guess I can't get back to it.
It's a bit of a shame what Apple is doing with this.

I've tried both link but I can't acces to the High Sierra link on App Store/Itunes and I find out that I'm not the only one who can't. Apple might have blocked it or something.
For El Captain or the Sierra direct downloads I could download it but couldnt launch the installer. My Mac says that the program is too old for the computer to run it.

So I guess the last solution is to make a bootable OS and try to get High Sierra this way.

Or do I miss a simple solution ?

For El Capitan or Sierra, you NOW MUST Change the Date in your BIOS BACK to when these OS Releases came out.

Then DISCONNECT the System from Internet Access, (of course AFTER having Downloaded the OS in question),

AND FINALLY run the Installer.

 

I can't, now, remember EXACTLY when the latest El Capitan Released, BUT 10.11.3 was AROUND March of 2016.

So, IF you are going all the way back to 10.11.6, you COULD TEMPORARILY Set the BIOS Clock back to say

March 29, 2016 to Install 10.11.6 and see how that goes.

 

@Hervé MAY know around when Sierra 10.12.6 Released, I don't have that date available to me.

 

ALSO, AFTER successful Installation of either 10.11.6 or 10.12.6 then GO BACK into the BIOS and change

the Date back to CURRENT Date.  AND FINALLY reconnect the System to Internet.

I rebooted and disabled internet. The date was the good one but it didn't work.

I had the same messagesaying that the program is too old to run on this version of Mac OS.

 

Did I do something wrong ? Or is their a level of Bios beneath this that I need to have acces to ?

 

I guess I have to give up and wait to have a pc to work with

You CANNOT just Set Time in the OS.  That DOESN'T work.  You HAVE to Set the BIOS, (depends on your MOBO on how to do this), of your

Hackintosh back to the proper Installation Date.

 

El Capitan 10.11.3 was in March of 2016.  I believe my first Hackintosh was made March 16, 2016 with El Capitan 10.11.3.  Your Issues on

Reinstallation of an Older OS is NOT new.  I first learned of Setting the BIOS back from the 'Unmentionable' Site.

 

As far as I know, this is NOT doable on Real Macintoshes - ONLY on Hackintoshes.

cannot install nvdia web drivers. it says: Mac OS X version is not compatible. i have 10.3.6 high sierra installed.

 

I have installed cuda cudadriver_418.163_macos which is the last one for high sierra.

 

and tried to install WebDriver-387.10.10.10.40.134

 

have tried earlier versions of web drivers not work as well.

 

help me pls

 

ps: i have solved the problem with installing 387.10.10.10.40.135 !!!

[Update:]

 

Received used (Mac Flashed)-Gigabyte GTX-770 4GB Card from a friend.

Installed the 770 into Daedalus-MacPro 5,1 Mid-2010 System.  Removed

Mac-GTX-970 4GB Card and Secondary EVGA GTX-1050 2GB Card from

Daedalus.

 

Tomorrow, will move the GTX-970 4GB Card to Hackintosh-Andromeda to

replace the damaged MacVidCards' GTX-1070 8GB Card.  This will give

Andromeda a FULLY working Mac Flashed Primary GPU and keep the

Secondary EVGA GTX-1050 2GB Card.

 

Now, (even though NOT needed), the NVIDIA Web Drivers are STILL

Installed on Daedalus.  I WILL be removing them, and the CUDA Driver

in preparation to move Daedalus to Mojave 10.14.6.

 

The damaged 1070 is going to a friend's Hackintosh.  He knows it's

damaged, and doesn't care.  He's NOT going to be Gaming, NOR

Number Crunching like I was.  He may, in addition to taking the

1070 8GB Card, take the EVGA GTX-1050 just pulled from Daedalus.

 

These steps will keep Hackintosh-Andromeda running at peak performance,

while I save up for a MacVidCards' Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX-580 8GB Card.

That will replace both the GTX-970 and 1050 in Andromeda and allow me to

Upgrade Andromeda to Mojave 10.14.6.  (May take me 6 Mos. to a year to

get the RX-580.)

 

Continued Good Luck to all here.  I plan to be OFF of NVIDIA Web Drivers

in a year's time.

[Hackintosh-Andromeda Update:]

 

FINALLY had time, yesterday, and got the Mac Flashed PNY GTX-970 4GB Card Installed

into Andromeda.  This replaces the defective MacVidCards' GTX-1070 8GB Card.

 

I may pull out the EVGA GTX-1050 2GB Secondary Card from Andromeda, as I am no

longer doing Number Crunching on MacOS on the Hackintosh.

 

NVIDIA Web Driver 387.10.10.10.40.135 seems to have picked up the change in the

Cards.  In BOINC, (as that Number Crunching Program is STILL Installed), the 970

IS being assigned OpenCL, BUT later in the Event Log the Individual Number Crunching

Projects 'CLAIM' that the 970 'Does NOT Support OpenCL' and further states

'GPU Missing'.  Concerned that OpenGL might also have been affected, I Launched

StarCraft:Remastered, that runs fine - NO Error Messages from the Battle.net Launcher.

 

So, I believe that Andromeda is working the way I need her to, for now.  NO real

issues to report.

I managed to boot in 10.13.4 and 10.13.6 with 'nv_disable' flag (Ga ex58UD3R) but i can't make Graphics Card work . I tried Web Drivers from the first post with webdrivers enabled in smbios(macpro 5,1), CUDA, inject Nvidia and so many combinations that i can't really recall but nothing.

Did anyone manage to do it ?

As always, we need to wait, now, for NVIDIA to release new Web Drivers.

The GTX-285 is Fermi or Pre-Fermi.  I have an OLD GTX-275, and was told that these

Cards are NOT MacOS compatible.  You should Upgrade and pick up a used GTX-760,

which is Native to MacOS, or IF you need CUDA Driver access - this USUALLY requires

the Web Driver too so I'd look at Maxwell and Pascal Cards.  (EVGA GTX-750TI SC, GTX-8x0,

GTX-9x0, GTX-10x0 Cards.  IF you can find any of these Pre-Flashed with Mac EFI, then

you WILL be able to get Boot Screen to show on Power Up of the System.)
