golimpio
I'm wondering if someone had/has issues with one of the USB ports? The one on the right works fine, but the one on the left is "laggy" (i.e. when I plug an external mouse there, it stops from time to time, it looks like it lose communication temporarily), it's not reliable.Probably I did something wrong on my setup, but I can't find what I've done wrong. golimpio
sounds more like a loose connection than a software bug. It might be... everything that I plug in that USB port doesn't work well, if I plug a pen drive or external disk it will disconnect after a few seconds. I thought I've messed up with some settings. Thanks for the reply.
golimpio
This is a bit off topic, but it might be useful for some people.Last week my laptop's battery was swelling at a point that I couldn't even use the trackpad.I was browsing for a new battery when I came across people telling that Dell is replacing XPS 15 9550 batteries for free, since this is a known issue. I can confirm that this is true for Australia, I got a new battery for free and a technician came to my place to replace it (but if your battery is not swelling yet, they will send the battery by mail and you can replace it yourself).Have a look at Dell Product Bulletin website for more information (need your service tag):https://www.dellproduct.com/From their product bulletin: Bulletin Name: Precision 5510 and XPS 9550 swelling system battery Dell has recently noticed that certain customers who purchased Dell XPS 9550 or Precision 5510 system(s) may be experiencing swelling or bulging system batteries.According to our records, your Dell System(s) is impacted by this issue. As part of a proactive effort, Dell would like to offer a replacement battery for each applicable service tag. Please inspect your system and batteries, if you identify symptoms of a swollen battery such as bulging of the system chassis or palm rest or if the battery has become stuck or lodged in the system it is considered a damaged battery. Visit Dell support at www.dell.com/support and select the contact method that best suits your needs to request a replacement/ support for damaged batteries and reference QNA44171. If your battery is not swollen, please use the process below to request a replacement battery. Please select “Continue” at the bottom of this page to request a replacement battery for your system(s). The battery is internal to the system but can be easily accessed and replaced using a #5 TORX head and #2 Phillips head screw driver following the procedure below or included in the Dell XPS 9550 or Precision 5510 Owner's Manual available online at the Dell support page. If you do wish to replace the battery yourself please select “Self Install” under the Installation Type section on the next page. The replacement battery(s) will be shipped directly to the address you provide. Should you feel you are unable to replace the battery yourself Dell will arrange to have a certified technician replace the battery at no cost to you. To request a Dell service technician install your replacement battery, please select “Service” under the Installation Type section on the next page. The replacement battery(s) will be brought by the Dell technician at the time of service. Onsite service may take 4 to 6 weeks to schedule and will require the system be available for service during normal business hours Monday – Friday. For the Self Install option Dell requires that you return the old battery. Please follow the return process outlined in the documents shipped with your replacement battery. Should you have any questions during this process please select “Contact Dell” at the top of any page and put “Dell XPS 9550 or Precision 5510 battery packs swelling Issue” in the subject line along with the applicable service tag/s in the body of your email.

Gymnae
FYI - Dell has removed the latest BIOS update from their website, following Intel's adsival, that the Microcode updates for their products where foobar. The latest, right now, is 1.5.7. I will downgrade. This also means that outside of OS protections, Intel does not deliver protection from Spectre 1 & 2 and Meltdown. What an f'n chaos. Krim404
10.13.3 seems to be safe to upgrade. edit: didnt realize it until it was too late: it breaks backlight adjustment for me.
BeatMag
the beta? nah. but the 10.13.2 security patch works w/o a problem. Just wanted to let you all know that I tried bios 1.6.1. I couldn't detect any problems. But it appears that dell has pulled this bios. So I will be reverting back to 1.5.1. Also I've tried 10.13.2. then also updating to the 10.13.2 supplement updates also worked fine. I will be attempting to downgrade my bios to 1.5.1 then applying 10.13.3 tonight. Will report back later.

BeatMag
does the backlight slider work for you after the upgrade? EDIT: kernel caches are required to work, so after cache recreation backlight works Which backlight slider? The one in control panel? Which version are you referring to? I’m downgrading bios now and will be going to 10.13.3. Yes I got the same brightness keyboard keys stopped working. Just tried to flush the kernel cache like you suggested now it’s hung. Lol. Reboot and hope it works. so the first boot after the update (I had to download the update seperately, app store came up with update and i downloaded 2gb then reboot and it didn't work). So had to download the update seperately. First boot it booted, but the brightness controls didn't work... so I tried to flush the kernel cache. This lead me to hanging on boot. So I went into recovery to rebuild kernel cache again. This made it come back. However the brightness still doesnt work. So I'm going to try and recopy the kext, from the guide (post installation section).
BeatMag
I’m on 10.13.3 now. I still can get my brightness controls to work.Even after rebuilding the kernel caches.I’m getting some complains about invalid signatures what appears to say it was allowed.I did the commands from the guide to flush the kernel cache.Any ideas on how to fix? EDIT: I have no idea what i've done. After a few flushes, the brightness control is working again. I tried to allow unsigned code again through that spctl command. And after the last flush it seems to have fixed it. I'm not really sure. Are there any advantages in going to the new Clover, also the github repo seems to have been updated with a few new things, something about nvram and aptio v3..... should i move to those? Krim404
it did not help still can’t boot installer. any ideas?? see: https://github.com/wmchris/DellXPS15-9550-OSX/tree/10.13/10.13/CLOVER/drivers64UEFI/other also check your slide parameter. >200 is very dubious and 33 is one too low. karelson
where to look? http://bfy.tw/GWUc (scnr ;-) ). Never had this issue before. seems like a bad usb install media. Thank you. seems that the installer USB was bed. redid it with other method and it worked fine. ALSO, unchecked slide=0 at the plist file with OsxAptioFixDrv-64.efi in the CLOVER/drivers64UEFI - made the install to work. Had some problems with reformatting the Samsung 960 Pro Thanks for the response. It's strange that windows works fine on it. Do you recommend a dive that had the most compatibility ? Thanks again for your help. reycingef9- Don't know if that helps, I had problems with formatting and mounting and so on, with diskutil in the installer, in diskutil above drive list on the drives there is an option to "show all devices" then you see the master drive and you can partition and reformat with no problems.
