mrwulff
so i know this wouldn't work because i have a turion processor, but i tried anyway. The disk booted quite fast but as soon as it went to the white screen with an apple on it, it restarted. is this an issue with the amd processor or the dvd. second, has anybody heard anything of the amd patch jas was supposed to release thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/31698-jas-1048-intel-sse3-only-dvd-install-discussion/#findComment-220955 Share on other sites

The patch is being worked on. No, it's not done yet, and I don't have an ETA. BuXb
JaS, very sorry to say, but in the current form your DVD won't be usable for many people, esp. for those like me with Laptops: you have Semthex' 10.4.8 kernel load right @ DVD boot + 10.4.8 kexts incl. kextcache. There are two kexts that cause a kernel panic on many Notebooks as posted in the forums: IOPCCardFamily.kext and AppleHDA.kext. I would edit the ISO myself and delete these kexts (because they are not necessary for install), but: a. I am not sure where they are stored on the DVD for the boot process b. I think just deleting them might not be enough because an appropriate kextcache most likely has to be created, too .. I hope it is not too difficult for you to issue a ppf patch for this .. Cheers, Bugs. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/31698-jas-1048-intel-sse3-only-dvd-install-discussion/#findComment-220969 Share on other sites
ptesone
seeding. . . a couple questions here: what is NX / and HPET ??? should I be using the default semthex's kernel or mifki's kernel ? should I even attempt this new install or wait for the ppf's since I'm AMD? what are ppf's (I assume they're updates)? anyway, sorry 'bout the stupid questions. . . here's my cpu-z: thanx! joe75
Joe75, what processor? T5600 Tried mifki and black screen also, I don't know if you have to set fsb but I tried 200, 100, 133 166 I tried with/without both cpus -v with trying mifki says its still trying to load SemtheX kernel Any suggestions Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/31698-jas-1048-intel-sse3-only-dvd-install-discussion/#findComment-220971 Share on other sites
FierceDeityLink1
The SemtheX kernel doesn't seem to want to start for me (even with the fsb parameter). I keep getting stuck at the blue screen before the language choice is given. I'm burning the disk again at 2x (instead of 8x) to see if that was the problem... EDIT: looks like Bugs and I are having the same issue. BuXb
@ ptesone: would you please, as requested by the thread starter, keep this thread clean for people who have at least TRIED to install - there are other threads here in the forum where your questions are not stupid, as you confess yourself (because in this posting they really are kinda stupid .. ). Thank you, Bugs. @ all: when Darwin Bootloader appears, hit F8, type -v to start the installer in verbose mode. That will give you stuff that fails to load, so we can report back to JaS more detailed. BuXb
Bugs, Do you have nothing working well how can I have anything working if the install from DVD kernel panics after 3 seconds ??? Anyway, one thing one could do is beam the DVD's HFS content to another HFS partition with Carbon Copy Cloner, RsyncX, Disk Utility whatever (if beaming to a partition on a USB or Firewire drive that partition must already contain the darwin bootloader in it's partition table), delete the two kextcaches + panicing kexts, and then boot-install from there .. However, I neither have any mind nor the time to get into this kind of messing right now .. Another hint for you guys who are not stuck with the DVD itself but cannot boot through all the way either: disable anything suspicious in the BIOS. For some install DVDs I had to disable the 2nd CPU core & LAN. Unfortunatly, my Laptop's BIOS is very rudimentary and does not allow me to disable the PCMCIA slot .. Good luck everybody else. [EDIT] hm one could also walk the path of the good ole VMWare2Native install method ..
