So this is what computer I have:

Dell Latitude D820 with 2.16 Dual Core, 2 Gig ram

I try to install Osx86 - Marklar - Tiger 10.4.1 ISO

Did the steps I found on http://www.i-hacked.com/content/view/202/42

And now the problem starts...

First of all, is it possible to install on an external USB HD ???

and why do I get the little gray-screen with the funky apple logo, but after 2 minutes of DVD activity all I see is some strange little 'stop sign' on top of the apple and nothing happens... The little round 'loading' thingy keeps turning dough.

Could someone help me out ?

I know I'm new @ this and probably I'm missing something...

Thank you kind for reading !

You're getting the waiting for root device

OSX 10.4.1 ISO is a very old ISO. Try getting something new for your PC. It lacks of the patches like SSE2/SSE3 Patches. For Dell computers , you need to apply the SSE2 patch although the BIOS supports SSE3 [its mainly because of some mobo problem]. Do yourself a favor , grab the latest JAS' OSX 10.4.7 ISO !

the error I keep getting when I install with '-v' is 'still waiting for root device ..'

Is this cuz it's an external HD ? I've set the BIOS so that

1 boot is DVD

2 boot is external HD

Anny ID why it won't work ? Would it be the jumper ?

Or might it be the DVD ? I tested it on another laptop and there I just stay forever with the gray - apple screen and the little thing turning and turning forever, it wont take...

I'll try to re-write the DVD... Somewhere I've been reading about a firmware update for DVD burner might help ?

Cheers !

ok... I'll do that. Thank you !

OSX 10.4.7 ISO here I come !

euh... I have another question, is this OSX 10.4.7 an Update ?

what I mean is, the file I find is ONLY 98.88 MB ?

So I can use this to upgrade my previous download of Osx86 - Marklar - Tiger 10.4.1 ISO or do I need to download a full BIG file called OSX 10.4.7 ?

again, thank you for reading... I know new-B's can be a pain in the A sometimes :D

Sounds like a 10.4.7 update. But you cannot update 10.4.1. You must install a new version of OSX from scratch.

The 10.4.7 iso is called Mac OS X 10.4.7 AMD/Intel (JaS) ISO Repack

thanx,

I found Mac OS X 10.4.6 x86 Install DVD, I'll try it with this.

Thank you !

ok, I start over again...

Mac.OSX.10.4.6.Tiger.x86 is burnded on a DVD, about to install an external HD...

I wonder if it will work :D

question:

I use an older HD, it's empty but I wonder if I need to FORMAT it ?

I'm using partitionmagic 8

Do I have to format it in NTFS or FAT 32 or LINUX Ext 2 or 3

Or do I just clear all data an make it an unformated disc ?

  • 3 months later...

Olla,

I installed several versions on my Dell D820 but now I read that wit the JaS.10.4.8 version I can have sound + WiFi working ! ;)

Who of you tried this and made it work ?

Is it possibel to install my OSX on an external HD so I don't lose so much of my laptop HD

If someone would feel like showin me the way (to the next wisky bar) :P

Cheers !
