0000-1248
Hi everyone, I got 10.4.1 Tiger working on VirtualBox today! It was really easy! I find it kinda funny how in 'About this Mac' it recognises my Intel i7-4770K Here are some pics: To set it up, here are the required VBox settings: And proof that Tiger actually is in VirtualBox, here it is, listing the VBOX HDD: The general usability of this VM is OK. Finder occasionally crashes and it is a little slow (probably since my hardware is so new and VBox has to emulate it). I was able to use all my HFS+ USBs with it (obviously) once I attached them through the 'Devices' menu in VirtualBox. There is a download for the Tiger ISO in the description of this youtube video. Also make sure to have an IDE controller or you will have a 'Still waiting for root device.' I use this only for Nostalgia, no real purpose (except that I wanted the original version of that Tiger Skin wallpaper). Overall, this was a fun and easy weekend project that was worth the effort in my opinion! Tiger is still today a really cool Operating System Be sure to post your experiences with this! - Matt Edited May 11, 2016 by 0000-1248 Torrent link has been removed - Please read our forum rules! 2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310673-tiger-1041-in-virtualbox/ Share on other sites
InsanelyMac1055
Would this run in VMware Workstation? It looks really cool. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310673-tiger-1041-in-virtualbox/#findComment-2223554 Share on other sites
0000-1248
Would this run in VMware Workstation? It looks really cool. Yeah, I don't see why not. You could probably use this x86 Install Disc for installing Tiger on a PC as a full OS! Please report back with your results. Hope I could help, - Matt Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310673-tiger-1041-in-virtualbox/#findComment-2223640 Share on other sites

0000-1248
Wow, how could you get the old MACOS version? I can't post the link to the file on this website (it is a torrent link, thus against the forum rules) but technically I can post a link to the link. Here is a youtube video. kosakgroove
Guys I followed the basic config posed in post#1 and it works awesome. It was a bit laggy but I was able to improve that by putting some more graphics memory and two cores allocated to OSX Tiger. I would just love to make qe/ci work man, or at least some graphics acceleration, or 1366x768 resolutions... Audio works but USB doesnt. What could I do about the graphics and resolution? 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310673-tiger-1041-in-virtualbox/#findComment-2230983 Share on other sites
LuckyLuck
Cool!!I have 10.4.11 on parallels, all works (sound, usb, network) but no 3d acceleration for virtual videoFor graphics resolution i was set "Graphics Mode"to 1366x768x32 in org.chameleon.Boot.plist 2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310673-tiger-1041-in-virtualbox/#findComment-2230993 Share on other sites
0000-1248
Audio works but USB doesnt. What could I do about the graphics and resolution? USB should work if you unmount it in OS X Mavericks first and then use the VirtualBox Device Manager to insert it to the VM. Since Mac OS X Emulation in VirtualBox is still experimental, full QE/CI acceleration cannot be done. Graphics, as stated in the post above, can be changed in the oCbp. - Matt 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310673-tiger-1041-in-virtualbox/#findComment-2231552 Share on other sites

And for the graphics, I can't seem to find any /Extra folder in my Macintosh HD, so no org.chameleon.boot.plist Where is it installed?? How can I find out? I have checked for a EFI partition but it seems like there is none... And diskutil list reports What is there to be done? Actually correcting my last post, back in the tiger days I think that it is actually a com.apple.boot.plist that you need to edit located here: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist Don't quote me on that, I'm not sure! Anyway, I don't think that there is a quicker way to mount USB devices, which is a shame because dragging the USB into the VM window and having it register would be really cool. Best Regards, - Matt Hey matt, sorry to say I am quoting you. Luckily I took a snapshot of the VM before modifying the file you said.. It rendered it useless.. Stuck in apple logo. Restoring from the snapshot, this is what I had tried: Is there anything I am doing wrong? And also, I can mount USBs now, I just reffered to speeding up the graphics performance a bit. Cheers my friend! 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310673-tiger-1041-in-virtualbox/#findComment-2232255 Share on other sites

To give me a good idea of your com.apple.boot.plist, can you please give me a screenshot of it using TextWrangler or a similar application so I can see the actual code instead of the guI of PlistPro. sl1fka
How'd you get this working? I can't get it work in VirtualBox. It either stops at a cancel sign, or in verbose mode gets stuck on "Still waiting for root device". Any help would be appreciated, I really want to get this working on VirtualBox! It either stops at a cancel sign, or in verbose mode gets stuck on "Still waiting for root device". Any help would be appreciated, I really want to get this working on VirtualBox! Can you tell me some more info, as in the settings in your VBox Menu? I have a suspicion that it may be a storage settings or chipset clash. Can you post some screenshots please? Other than that, the iso may be corrupt or something similar. Also, make sure that your SATA controller is set to IDE instead of AHCI. That worked for me when I got that error. Best Regards, - Matt I'm a free user of DepositFiles. It is going to take "Average download time in regular mode: 1747 minutes" It definitely takes less than that. That's just something they say to try to get you to buy premium! Took about 2 hours for me. - Matt Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310673-tiger-1041-in-virtualbox/#findComment-2235989 Share on other sites
