spakk
Sure that is not working this way ...sorry spakk and Shaneee mine was an example..but you need to provide a full path to the command, ie where is really located: /Users/Micky1979/Desktop/kextcachex86 -a -K /Extra/kernel -p /Users/Micky1979/Desktop/prelinkedkernel ..kextcachex86 was on my Desktop, so you have to adjust the path... no need to install in /usr/bin Let me know, buy anyway I don't want to be off topic any longer, so let me the result in PM. Good night to all I need to go to bed Micky, please look at the picture

Duran Keeley
So nobody is working on a kernel for the fx series? Why? Arent they the MOST popular amd cpus? I'm guessing you missed this topic completely: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/310796-amd-os-x-el-capitan-1011-fx-kernel-task-force/ There is a post nearly everyday with work towards the FX processors.

oliveiro
Hi All I see most of the fresh stuff is now delivered on the "FX" topic, but I just want to bring my little contribution here : I installed El Capitan 10.11.4 on my prehistoric AMD k10. The best result I have so far is with Y2K4U's (10.11.2rev2) kernel, which on my rig is getting slightly better results than the best kernel I was running under Yosemite (see my sig). I used GeekBench, and Heaven to benchmark graphics. SingleCore Cpu benchmark gave equivalent results to Yosemite. Multicore and Graphics improved. Everything's fine so far, big thanks to all devs and "kernel compilers", especially Shanee for your video tuto and recent kernels & Y2k4u for your rev2 kernel. But I've read most of your posts Spakk (!) Like at the Oscars, one always forget someone, so thanks all for your work and contributions. I'm wondering, is anyone with an old Phenom II getting better results than with kernel 10.11.2rev2 ? And what bench tools do you guys use ?
oliveiro
So, noone's using old Phenom ? Maybe I should just ask for anyone with a non-FX AMD, what are the best results of your kernel testing ? 10.11.2 rv2 too ? or else ? @spakk : I'm wondering what are those system.kext you posted with the kernels you compiled ? I mean I see they are smaller than the originals, and all the "plugins" kexts they include are smaller. Did you compile those kexts yourself ? would you mind telling what changes you did ? They have the advantage to avoid all the "persona_..." warnings everytime a kext is loaded, and thus to slightly speed things up, the disadvantage being that things are less "vanilla" of course... During compile the amd kernel are created automatically various system files, such as the system.kext, the IOKit.framework, Kernel.framework and System.framework and amd kernel, the size of the files can respective vary from kernel to kernel. The System.kext suppresses the symbols-error that occur during boot of OS X, so I upload always the system.kext with the kernel. To your concern to find an equivalent amd kernel to 10.11.2 rv2 from "y2k4u", please read the previous threads from the beginning.
oliveiro
Hi Thanks for your answer ! I now understand the "symbols error" stuff. I guess using one of your system.kext against y2k4u's kernel would be unwise then (?) Otherwise, I did my homework and parsed all the 58 pages of this thread before trying ElCapitan, but it is only on the FX topic that I found an (off-topic) comparison of kernels for non-FX AMD, in a post by jsl in believe. This is why I was asking whether anyone has done a recent comparison, as I did. Just to share (recent) experience... In my hackintosh of 4 different AMD CPUs (Athlon 64 x2 6000+, Phenom x4 9850, Phenom II x6 1405T, & FX-6300) the best also my favorite kernel is 10112R2. It is very reliable, fully compatible, and excellent performance for CineBench R15. Please check whether it is the same as you're using now ! Also check my signature for these 4 AMD hackintosh.

oliveiro
@ jsl : thanks for your answer, I had found your post on the fx topic, nice to know we reach same conclusions... Also, I'm not sure if it's kernel related, but I have very few applications which fail with that kind of messages in console, HWMonitor for instance (when trying to open preferences window): com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (org.hwsensors.HWMonitor.411872[582]): Service exited due to signal: Segmentation fault: 11com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.ReportCrash[1599]): Endpoint has been activated through legacy launch(3) APIs. oliveiro
check this for older CPUs and report Hey Spakk, I confirm that's a solid one, as far as Geekbench is concerned, single-core score is at its highest, and multicore's is between 1 and 2 % slower that the best kernel so far (10.11.2.rev2) ; plus the fact you provide us with a clean system.kext, console is much cleaner. It seems rock solid for non-FX Amd , I'll do further testing... but for now I struggle with an "unsupported" FastTrackUltra soundcard... Though, I still have between 300 and 400 lines of : kernel[0]: class AppleATADiskPolledInterface: xml serialize kernel[0]: class OSDictionary: xml serialize This is in console right after boot with any kernel I tested. And the problem with HWMonitor preferences window remains (see my previous post), I can't really trace it for now, probably graphics related. But it's not major. So thanks again for your work ! jsl
check this for older CPUs and report This AMD kernel can login to desktop, but many app crashed in Phenom II x6 1405T, Athlon 64 x2 6000+ & Phenom x4 9850 at 10.11.5 or 10.11.4 with or without matched system.kext. In Cinebench R15 its performance score was 2~3% lower than 10112r2 kernel which's almost neglectable difference ! I'll change original system.kext to yours which's much cleaner and subjectively faster during booting ! My another favorite AMD kernel for Phenom x4 9850 is Bronya's 10112rc2_all because it is very reliable, fully compatible, and excellent performance for CineBench R15. : Edited May 11, 2016 by jsl
Shaneee
Here is my rc1 kernel with matching System.kext and Frameworks. I'm currently using this on my own system and only app that I've found to crash is Safari. Edit: paste the contents of the Extensions folder in to System/Library/Extensions and the contents of the Frameworks folder should to be merged in to System/Library/Frameworks. Not replaced the contents of the Frameworks folder 1:1! Notice, this instruction, otherwise the system will not boot. shaneee-rc1.zip

oliveiro
Hi all ! @jsl : might your problems be related to the fact you're using 10.11.5 beta ? And, is Bronya's Kernel you're talking about (10112rc2_all) the one from 19th january ? @shaneee : Thanks for posting your kernel, I'll test as soon as possible, and report. @spakk : different conversations are overlapping here, so I didn't understand to what error you're refering when you wrote you made a mistake in sources ? @spakk & shaneee : upon which sources did you compiled the kernels you both posted recently ? Sorry for my limited knowledge and understanding of building kernels, but does it make a significant difference to use a kernel built upon sources of the exact version of the O.s. we're using ? According to my experience, it's not, since I'm using successfully a kernel compiled in december 2015 (probably against 10.11.2 sources) on a 10.11.4 system, but I'm interested in your opinions, since you "dive" in these sources (?) Thanks !
jsl
Hi all ! @jsl : might your problems be related to the fact you're using 10.11.5 beta ? And, is Bronya's Kernel you're talking about (10112rc2_all) the one from 19th january ? Current version tested is 10.11.5, but I had found no difference between 10.11.5 and 10.11.4 using all previous AMD kernels. Yes, 10112rc2_all was created by Bronya on 2016-01-19.
